Road to Recovery

town has been cut of from all directions by flood water and it looks like the CBD will go under this afternoon or tonight from what I can tell from the reports on the local papers website with the only access via the heritage railway. Go the old steam train :) the normal rail is also cut off.

hubby had gone by foot to see if he can get into town for supplies despite the flood, with most of the state flooded there is a backlog for the insurance company paying out claims so we don't know when we will get our payout to be able to replace our car.

Exercise so far today has been nil (I don't count cleaning as exercise)
Food Nil (will go and dig something out of the cupboard to eat for lunch now prob a can of soup)

Water is still rising and it is still raining with no break in sight untill around the end of the week.

we had instructions from the vet this afternoon, our dog was supposed to have her stitches removed but with everybody flooded in I had to remove the stitches myself.

hubby managed to get some supplies but the supermarkets were almost empty due to panic buying.

needless to say this is not helping me to have a stable diet and exercise routine at the moment.

This mornings full body bodyweight routine

3 sets of 20 full pushups
3 X 3 minute planks
3 X 10 Bench Dips (feet elevated above chest level for increased dificulty but needed more)
3 X 10 Towel chest flys
Fulham wall sit 5 minutes (2 minute flat, 2 minutes heels up, 1 minute toes up)
3 X 10 supermans
3 X 10 Dirty Dogs (each leg)
Iron Horse Stance 2 minutes

Rotator cuff exercises (black theraband)

Going to do some hill sprints on the driveway then see what condition my stationary bike is in when I haul it out of the shed and then decide between a session on the bike or a session with the heavy bag.

but at this stage it will prolly be the bag to get rid of some frustration.

Hi Trusyler. Boy there is a lot going on with you. So glad you were not seriously injured, that looks terrible (the car). We are watching the flooding on tv up here and now I read that its happening to you it really brings it home. Take care and I will follow up with you.

the flood level is stable for the moment but with it still raining heavily it is predicted to rise further before dropping a significant amount in who knows how many days, have been watching the Toowoomba flash flood on the news and have been told by mum that my stepfathers pastor and his wife have been killed. Hubby has a workmate who is in Toowoomba visiting family and we hope she is ok.

below is a photo of the football ground in town and yes that is a fish jumping out of the water on field 1. When the water goes down it is going to be depressing going in to help with the clean up and finding out what is left of the sports medicine room.

have been trying to keep my mind off of all the shit things that have been happening but it is not working very well.

Well I am thinking of you.

Truthfully I have felt so far out of your league when it comes to exercise that I haven't known how to approach you! You're just in that category of athletes that its a little hard to measure up to! Thanks for visiting MY Diary!

I do understand, although athlete or not we all struggle with with weight issues, just because I have a higher level of exercise/training/goals or whatever it shouldn't make a difference but I know it does and I suppose i see the same thing IRL people I have come to know at the gym that have become friends don't see me as anything but normal but when new members see me train they often feel intimidated although it is not intentional, most men don't feel comfortable being weaker than a woman and the ladies are just simply horrified when they see me lift.

Finally got a small amount of reception for internet access, land line phone is still out and we never get mobile/cell phone reception anyway, hell the only way we even get internet is because of the whopping big aerial on the roof. TV reception is patchy at best

town is still flooded and cut off, shops are short of food although hubby did manage to get some more supplies today after a 12 k walk but the only food I have eaten today is a big bowl of porridge.

Exercise - Nil

I just don't have the energy, the flood and the accident along with everything else is getting me down.

Hi Trusylver
We've been watching the floods on telly all day today and yesterday... I hope you and your family stay dry and safe. There's been such sad stories and news.

We've got some family staying with us who are from Brisbane and have lots of family and friends in brisbane and also inland. I guess you're going to have weeks of cleaning up. Here's hoping there is no more rain for a while.

Good luck

anna

Thanks for the support, managed to get into town today to get some more supplies, supermarket shelves were very empty but we were lucky they had just received 1 truckload worth of food so got bread, milk, fresh meat and a few other things.

Food today

Porridge
1 can of rice cream
OJ
Liver with onions and mushrooms

Late night snack: tabbouleh, 2 thin slices of Jarlsberg cheese

Not wonderful but not bad considering veg can't be found for any price.

Exercise: a long walk with heavy shopping bags and backpack

6:30 am here, feeling ok, the highway has been partially re opened and the army has arrived to assist with the town cleanup so hopefully the shops will be able to re stock fruit and veg yippeee .

still don't have a car but the insurance payout has arrived so we can look for a replacement car when things begin to return t normal after the flooding but in the meantime with the roads beginning to reopen mum is going to truck her old car up to Queensland for us.

i love to read the things you eat, lol! they sound funny :)

how are you feeling physically now since the wreck? getting better?

physically I am ok but mentally I have felt very nervous during the couple of taxi trips since the accident. Hoping to get over the mental issues once I have a car to drive again.

as for food most of it is pretty normal, it is just that here in Aus we have different names for things eg. porridge is what you call oatmeal and due to my allergies I have a limited diet especially no wheat based products so long as I don't mess up and eat something I shouldn't lol

again food hasn't been perfect but within acceptable limits so far considering we are unlikely to have access to fresh veg until after the weekend.

Rice cream
Cheese
1 serve tiny teddies (they contain wheat but I should be able to cope with the aftermath)
Steak with onion and spices - grilled
Will have some tuna for supper

Exercise:

sharpened the machete and hacked down some lantana

Another hot steamy morning, I am covered in mozzie bites because I am out of insect repellent.

Morning Exercise

Pushups (full) 3 X 20
Bench Dips (feet elevated, weight on lap) 3 X 10
Bird Dogs 2 X 15 seconds each side
Dirty Dogs 3 X 10 each side
Plank 2 minutes (shoulder gave out but better than expected considering my shoulder injury)
Fulham Wallsit (2,2,1)
Lying Hip Adduction 3 X 13 each side
Proprioception - 1 minute each leg eyes closed (goal 3 minutes eyes closed)

Chose these exercises as an experiment, I am considering running a bodyweight only strength challenge which doesn't require any equipment and still works the whole body.

What all the exercises work

Pushups - Chest, shoulders, triceps
Bench Dips - Bench Dip see list
Bird Dog - lower and middle back http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/ErectorSpinae/BWBirdDog.html
Dirty Dog - outer hips
Planks - core
Fulham Wallsit - Hamstrings, quads, glutes (but), calves, adductors (inner thigh), Tibialis Anterior and a number of other smaller muscles
Lying Hip Adduction - inner thigh
Proprioception - connective tissue around the ankle, knee, and hip for injury prevention

some of these have both harder and easier variations which will work the muscle differently.

Afternoon exercise

12 km walk of which 6 km was with a full backpack and a bag of shopping.

Wow, seeing your workouts make me wanna push myself to do more! Good job! I was soo confused for a second when you said that it was a hot morning, when my morning are about 20 degrees. Then I saw that you were in the other hemisphere haha. Keep up the great work :)

Have been following the floods on TV, as a fellow Aussie, I am proud of how strong everyone in QLD (and now vic too) has stayed during the flood. Am trying to organise an Australia Day fundraiser BBQ but it seems everyone already has plans. All the best with the car and I hope the return of life back to normal is speedy. Hope there wasn't too much damage to your property, all the best for the clean up xx

Thanks for dropping in, it is nice to have some support :)

calculated my calorie burn based on average heart rate for the walk at just a little over 800 calories, I could have pushed a little harder.
