This isn't a 'so simple a monkey could do it' suggestion but I use Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld in order to up my vegetable intake. I'm a picky eater. Always have been. But more importantly, I HATE veggies. Her cookbook teaches you how to puree vegetables so that you can add the purees into meals and not even taste them. Example: adding pureed cauliflower to mashed potatoes or butternut squash in a grilled cheese sandwich. It sounds weird but as long as the purees are mixed into foods that have a stronger flavor, you don't even taste the puree.

I love your Diary and its very inspiring to myself, to know that you are losing weight! Im cheering you on and hope you can reach your goal~

@Veronica - You just gave me a great idea with the puree. I love pureed soups...spinach, butternut, tomato, pea. If I learn how to spice them maybe that could be an easy meal for me. I studied abroad and my foreign exchange mom used to make the best veggie puree soups...only way her kids would eat 'em. I could have hot soups in winter, chilled in summer. I'll look into some recipes like that. Thanks!

@Kit - Welcome!! So happy to be on your team. You seem enthusiastic and determined, so if any of that rubs off on me I'm a lucky gal!

Wow, 5 full weeks of healthy habits. Yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaah! I'm starting to be a bit proud of myself, walking to the gym all puffed up. Swagger through the doors like a regular. ;)

That said, I'm taking today off. No exercise. I woke up late, feelin' lazy in a good, relaxed sorta way.

So far today I've had some strawberries, soy milk, whey protein and baked sweet potato fries. I'll have a peach whey protein smoothie, salmon and some popcorn later. EDIT: Ended up around 2100 calories on my cheat day and it was delicious. :)

You are doing SO well! :D

I love the food choices you selected. I see a nice balance of carbs and protein in them, and its all the good kings :p

Keep on keeping on belly! Doing SPECTACULAR! :auto:

OMG, I have the best recipe for curried butternut squash soup! Everyone LOVES it! Even the people who don't like curry! It's so awesome! If you want it let me know.

If you need some spice suggestions for any of those soups, just let me know. My best friend is a chef and I could ask him what he suggests.

Glad ya had a nice laid back day off :) The first time I decided to "skip" the gym, I felt a little anxious about it, like maybe if I didn't go I'd never wanna go back. I'm very glad that I can finally relax a little, not feel so guilty bout takin the night off now and again!

Also: All these veggie things sound amazing!!

Solid week. Got all 6 workouts in and have increased my resistance on the elliptical from level 6 to level 13, so I know my strength is improving even though I'm presently focused on cardio. Also, been walking serious hills in my new neighborhood.
Looking forward to my next milestone - running! I should be there in 2 weeks or less.
Nutrition has been very good. Though, haven't worked on including veggies yet...it's all fruit and fish and yogurt and popcorn. Still, incorporating veggies (especially those puree soups) is on my list.

Down 3 pounds this week, so right on track. Feeling great!

Glad to see you are back! Thought we lost you for a minute... Good job on the cardio and eating right. Obviously it is paying off on the scales so good for you!

Great job on your increase in fitness for the elliptical! For your running, do you have a plan? I have the program from the learn to run clinic I did with the running room if you need a guideline (starting off slower and gradually increasing your running time).

Working in the veggies is hard for me too. Soup is a great way to do that though! I try to bring a veg for snacks at work (one morning, one afternoon snack). But at home... my veg intake is laking that's for sure. Good luck incorporating into your diet!

WOOO! 3 lbs :) GO you! Great job on the resistance increase also :) After increasing resistance for the past month, I've found that going back down to a lesser one doesn't do much for me anymore  at least that means I'm getting somewhere, I guess! Have a great week- keep up the killer work :)

6 days last week?:eek2: Thats dedication. Nice work!

Thats great news about the elip! And yea, its nice to realize you have a much longer internal endurance on the machines. Really motivation that you are doing something right :D

I read somewhere that cardio outside is a bit more effective than the gym, because you are subjecting your body to a much more diverse, rigid enviornment. I am actually looking to go hiking this weekend up camelback with my sister, so that should be fun!

My only advice is to watch out for team orange. :coolgleamA:

You are so right about outdoor workouts. They're much more challenging, and cuts all that repetitive motion out. Better for balance too. You'll probably be sore after the hike, in a good way. Actually, I don't run on the treadmill. Before I let myself go.....I was into trail running. I'll start out on easy, lower elevation trails. It's so much more fun exercising outside, especially in this gorgeous weather. I'm almost there and I can't wait!

AndyCakes/Team Orange. ;) Come n get us!

That is awesome!!! :gnorsi: I'm seriously impressed. 5 mins on the elliptical is like an eternity for me at the easiest level. With all those hills you're doing, you're gunna have buns of STEEL!!! :drool5:

The elliptical is so hard! I remember the first time I went on one, I struggled to make it to 2 mins. Now I struggle to do 45 mins or an hour!

Good job on the improvement! Keep on going and you'll definitely keep seeing more of that!

I'm seriously thinking that this summer I'm gonna spend more time outside on days off. For gods sake- I live in Montana! Theres a damn mountain to climb every thirtysix feet. I've never really done the outdoorsy thing before, so it'll be interesting, fershur. Keep up the killer work :)

Butternut squash is one of my favorite soups. Please please give me the recipe. I don't even know how to cook the squash itself so make sure and include that part!

@Jess Oh yeah, definitely makes it more interesting and fun to get outside. I'm looking to joining a hiking group and a flag football league eventually but I'll start out doing activities alone until I'm more confident about my fitness level. I want to be able to pull my own weight.

This was a very good week. I got 6 workouts in and I ate well. I'm down 2lbs. I expected more because I feel slimmer. I don't measure inches but I suppose I lost some because I can fit into my size 8 pants. I started at a snug size 12. The size 8 are snug and I wouldn't wear them in public but there's no muffin top or dunlap syndrome (where my belly done lapped over my belt), so I'm not spilling out of them or anything. All that resistance on the elliptical must be helping me build muscle, which is why I feel smaller. Around 35-40% of my daily caloric intake is protein and I think that's key.

Later this week I'm looking forward to beginning trail running. Being on uneven terrain, using my own body weight, treading on different elevations, and just engaging in a new routine should help me stay on this 2-3 lb/week pace. Also, it'll be fun to do something different.

I'll also continue my quest to incorporate veggies in my diet. I've asked a few folks on here for recipes but have yet to do any shopping. Still, it's a firm goal and part of my overall desired lifestyle.

Thanks everyone who stops by and supports me. I think about the members of this board all the time and want to be able to report good news! I am really gonna struggle to stay on the right path Super Bowl Sunday! Maybe I'll pick up a fruit or veggie plate that I can nibble on.

Wow fitting back into your size 8's! Even if they are snug, they went on and that's so awesome! Soon you'll be wearing them out in public! Good job!
