Right way of breating....

Right way of breathing....

What is the right way of breathing when lifting weights or doing some aerobics and muscle/abs building.

I often feel like I'm going to get a heart attack whenever I'm doing some physical training:eek:

Does it do me any good if I hold my breath for a certain time when lifting weights...for example, I inhale/exhale for every 5 lifts. And where should I breathe, through the nose or mouth

thanks again

Breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth. Also, it's not a good idea to hold your breath. I've heard people suggest doing it if you are going for a "max" rep, but screw that. Always breathe. You don't want to push yourself too hard and pass out.

the only time you should hold yer breath is if you're doing squats, and even then, you exhale at the top of the rep, rather than during the rep like most exercises.
reason being it helps strengthen the core muscles to prevent injury.

but holding you're breath for 5 reps of anything...no, bad. the body needs oxygen, especially during activity. lack of oxygen is why you feel like you're heart is going berserk.

I see, so it doesn't really help much. I feel that I'm cheating myself whenever I breathe in between, so I thought I have to make it harder and hold my breath

I recommend it for any heavy push move and deadlifts. It creates a tension that assists in the move.
