Resuscitating myself :)

Hi all,

I was a member here a looong time ago (ok, like 2 years ago). Back then I had 130lbs to lose... I don't think I really lost any of it... I have returned with a massive 176lb (80kg) to lose - I stand before you, a massive 338lb (151kg) :-(

I'm at the point where I'm doing something drastic otherwise I won't be able to continue living any kind of life. I'm starting to really feel the effects of my weight and it doesn't feel good. So I'm doing a Meal Replacement shake diet for the foreseeable future, so will be having 1000 - 1200 calories per day... although today is day 1 and I've had closer to 1500 calories, but that's ok! My stomach will slowly shrink and it'll be easier to eat less.

Anyway, I will be starting a thread somewhere to keep track of my journey :)

Hope everyone else is doing great!!

Lisa.

I think the thing that you need to focus on is that you will lose a lot of weight at 1500 calories a day so today is a really good day - not in any way an overshoot of 1000 to 1200.

I really wish you luck at this chosen route - but also feel that I should voice a word of caution because I know that I could not stick to a meal replacement diet of 1200 calories in the short term - never mind the long term. It sounds really tough!

I know that there is the technical formula based on BMR - but the rule of thumb is incredibly reliable which says that people lose weight on 8 to 10 times their weight of calories and it is a really good idea to start at 10 times and see where you get... This certainly appears to hold true if you are reasonably active... I found walking to be an incredibly effective form of exercise - and I certainly didnt walk quickly or particularly far initially when my BMI was 52...

That would have you losing weight at initially 3380 calories a day and able to make a food plan which was full of diversity and treats which would make is appealing to stick to in the long term.

If the worst happens and you find the meal replacement route too difficult - please do not give up entirely. Try incorporating some walking and a much more lenient calorie level. It would not be as quick as 1000 calories - but may be more practical for the long term.

It may seem a bit negative for me to say this - but often when I was big and came off a very restrictive diet gloriously I kept as far away from diet thoughts as possible - which these days would mean avoiding a forum such as this.

make sure you get enough calories. You can really slow down your metabolism by eating too little. Keep at it!

Welcome back to the forum again brother. I have a suggestion for you. First of all your attitude is not so desirable. I mean how can you convince yourself that you ate 1500 today aand tomorrow you would not? DONOT FOLLOW THIS seriously because this will not help your stomach to shrink up day by day but it would make you eat more.
1 motivational tip for you brother: LOSE WEIGHT AS IF THIS IS YOUR LAST DAY.

Hi and welcome back!

First off, listen to Omega's advice. She has been spot on with helping me, and better yet, she has already made a huge amount of progress on her own journey. She is very well informed.

Secondly, I understand how you feel. An extremely overweight person often thinks it will take extreme measures to remedy the problem. I sat through the Gastric Bypass meetings at the hospital, I've watched others take on radical diets to lose weight...and I've watched many of them fail to either stay with the diet OR transition to a healthy lifestyle after the diet is over and then gain all the weight back. I am only in my second month of this process myself, but I have focused on eating healthier and making sure I never (or almost never) feel deprived... of either quantity or quality of food. I never go hungry. I rarely feel bad eating one thing while others indulge in the foods I cannot have.

I'm eating better foods, at the right times of day, and in the right quantities.

I encourage you to create a plan you can stick with and that you feel good about doing. It's a long road so you might as well enjoy the ride.

Aussigal, I wish you luck in your weight loss journey. I also have a significant amount of weight to lose, but am very excited and motivated to do it. I am a little aprehensive about your diet plan though. For me, it would be very hard to maintain and stick to. If you can stick to it and it gives you the results you want though, more power to you.

hi aussiegal! this kiwi from accross the ditch is wishing you good luck :)
Iv been trying the meal replacement thing too (kate morgan) and it definately works if you stick to it.
Ill be interested to hear how you get on!
