Rep advice

I've been doing the following rep and set combination for a few months with my squat and bench press, I'd like to know if its the best way to acheive size inrease in the targeted muscles.

Squat:

60kg *8
80kg *8
100kg *8
120kg *8

Bench

40kg *8
50kg *8
60kg *8
70kg *8

Is that the best way to do it? Or should I be doing near or my max for all the sets (to best size gain)

near max for all the sets. You don't have to go to faliure.
You're oing 4x8. So try to keep the weight constant. The first sets will be a bit easier than the last ones, but they should still be pretty heavy.

Another way to do it is to go near faliure on all the sets and decrease the weight (or number of reps) as you go along. This offcouce, is a lot more taxing on the body.
