Regarding leg press/leg exercises

Hi, today I finally got into the gym, and started doing some work on leg machines. I have had problems with my knees, and consequently was quads and general legs were a bit unstable because of it. I am 14 years old, 5ft 11, 150lbs and in 9th grade.
Well anyway, I started with the leg press and realised I had no idea about leg sets for building muscle using gym equipment (I normally just do whole body 3x per week with dumbells, body weight, etc).
So question time. With leg machines about how many sets/reps should I be doing? Just to build muscle.
Also is 300lb leg press in sets of 3 x 8 good? That's what I was doing today. Could probably push to 330, just a bit unconfident about my knees.
Thank you!

If you are worried about your knees I would not be on that leg press machine anyways. I have read that it is much more injury prone than say, squats. Learn proper form on squats and do those instead...

I know whats wrong with my knees, it's a medial plica getting caught under my right knee cap. Anyway it stopped, but my legs are weak so I've been told by a physio to strengthen them up.

he dident give you any specific exersices? or mention anything you shouldnt do? If so, id give squats a go.

She basically told me to do stretches and one legged squats. I have been squatting with two 10kg dumbells doing sets of 20, but in the gym I may as well use what there is. Can't do heavy squats either because theoretically I'm not supposed to be in the gym at my age - they turn a blind eye. Is 300lbs good for a leg press though? I'm worried that my legs are too weak.
