Rebel's Diary

Just out of curiosity: when you buy canned black beans, does the liquid they sit in contain vinegar? Over here it does, but it's so rare for stores to stock black beans at all that I'm not sure if it's a fluke. I'm a known lazy person, so buying dried beans leads to a full pantry instead of a full belly.

No they just have the normal juice leftover durring the cooking process. Here in texas since were so close to mexico we can get any kind of beans canned year round. The brand i use is goya. Its one of the mexico brands i was talking about. Your best bet if your local grocery wont special order. Just go to amazon and type in goya black beans. They come in a six pack for about $6.00.. A dollar something a can isn't bad. It just really depends on your shipping rate.

Yeah, shipping makes stuff more expensive than it´s worth. Thanks for the info, though, I´ll get round to the dried beans eventually :) I like beans, but the only ones you can typically get here are kidney beans, generic white beans (seriously, there´s one type of white beans) and scarlet runners (which, again, always come in vinegar). I mean: you get lentils and chickpeas as well, but... three kinds of beans, only two of them generally useful? Hmpf. Ok, done beanbashing Austria now :p How´s the sleep schedule coming along?

Today could have been better. Food was ok but had some bipolar issues. It was nothing major, just some crazy anxiety thing. My daughter wanted to go to the local dinner buffet place and everything was fine then idunno maybe all the people..... Just one of those things i guess. Anyway got home took some medicine and just woke up and probably going back to sleep. Did make me a quick egg sandwich because it felt like i hadn't eaten in days.
I had to guess about calories at the buffet but im not too worried.
I had a small salad with lettuce and baby boiled shrimp and blue cheese crumbles amd some shredded parm chese and blue cheese dressing and a couple of develed egg halves and a small amount of mac salad. It sounds like alot but it was a small plate so it was about 1/2 the size of an appetizer salad u might get at a restaurant.
Then i had a small plate of this mexican shredded chicken dish with some creamed spinach and a small amount of rice topped with a tomato and okra srew stuff and 1 yeast roll.
Dessert was a small slice of sugar free blue berry pie and coffee.
Since the portions were extra small im guessing about 1500 calories but now way to reallllly b sure.

Breakfast/Lunch- golden corral buffet- 1 salad plate, 1 dinner plate. (1500?? calories)

Dinner- fried eggs and cheese on a flatwrap. (493 calories)

Yea it sounds like dried beans r going to b your best bet. Beans a big here. Just guessing but the dried beans section muat have 30 different types of beans.
Scarlet runners is one I've never heard of. Maybe we know them under a different name. Ill have to look them up....

Sorry to hear about your anxiety trouble, Rebel. I hope you guys still managed to have some fun before it happened. I'd expect your food to have been closer to 1200 kcal from the discription but of course I didn't see it. Hope the extra sleep helped :grouphug:

 I am a raging ball of jealousy  The largest eco-friendly stores here (where the vegans roam) will have 7 or 8 types of dried beans...
Scarlet runner is what uncle Google spat out, they're called Käferbohne (beetle bean) around here and I've only seen them as a salad (with raw onions and pumpkin seed oil) so maybe that's why they come pre-vinegared.

Yea it was nice over all. Yea realistically i guessed between 1200-1350ish. I always tend to round up when i have no clue. The mac salad rice and roll all were carb dense. Carbs seem to always bring calories to the party so i rounded up.
Not sure if im staying up or going to sleep a few more hours. Gonna hafta c.

Well im feeling pretty well today. I decided to just stay awake and continue the day.
My new food scale and tea pot/strainer showed up yesterday after i had gone to bed. So thats some good news. My food processor shouldnt b far behind.

Latest shopping adventure finds.
My new prettttty food scale. Its small but it weighs up to 5kgs or about 11 pounds. Which is perfectly fine because even my portions arent that big ;)

Then my new tea um i guess you would call it an infuser. Its cool and i love buying little oddities. You fill it with loose tea and hot water and there's a pressure plate on the bottom that releases the tea into your cup.. Strange and cool i suppose.

Feeling "pretty well" the day after an anxiety episode sounds like good resilience to me; very glad to hear it.

That IS a pretty scale. Look at the cute buttons on that thing ;)
Not sure how useful the tea thing (I almost want to call it a modern samowar) will really be but it looks like the basis for a science project. Do you collect your own tea herbs?

The teas i get from a local tea shop. You walk in and their back wall is full of huge tea tins. They sell them by the ounce. You just have to be careful because those ounces can really add up.

Been feeling really really manic today. I have my oma's table in the kitchen and it has a few marks where hot coffee cups and a hot pot burned through the finish so i decided to give it a good scrubbing to c what the extent I'll have to go through to refinish it. Next thing i know everything was out of the kitchen pots pans food out of the walk in pantry and i gave everything a good scrubbing. And then put everything back in pretty much the same spot it was before.
Then i went for a 30 min walk around the neighborhood then went to the mall and walked around for an hour or so

Exercise check..

Oh and my food processor showed up today as well

Well done on channelling some of that mania into a productive job Rebel. Also well done on the walk & the healthy eating xo

What Cate said. Walking for an hour and a half? Sounds like something you would not have been able to do three months ago
Your tea shop sounds like the healthy version of an old-fashioned candy store :p Want!

Yea its been an adventure thats for sure. B4 i would get completely out of breath just walking from the living room to the kitchen. It's so different now.
Ahh the tea shop. Earl grey is my fav tea. Hey do have things like pepermints and different fruit blends. I love their orange blossom tea. Its an herbal so no caffeine. But it has an amazing orage flavor.

Pretty amazing work there, buddy :grouphug:
I lost my taste for black tea years ago but herbal infusions are awesome.
