Ready To Conquer The Beast

Hey Lisa! Just wanted to stop by and say hi - hope that you've had a great weekend and that your car troubles are behind you!

Too bad they can't figure out how to make an MMORPG that lets you be active while playing. I'd be sooooo down for that! lol

All they gotta do is make virtual reality headsets for the mmorpgs and plug the wii into it, lol. Then when you're out there doin stuff for quests you have to walk in place, swing your sword, etc. I'm sure the technology is coming...maybe the government has it already but knows how bad it'd be for all of us, lol. Sure would make life fun though....and games impossibly addictive more than they already are.

But yea I hear you....the first time I lost weight I quit playing WoW and didn't touch another for a year and a half. Right now I have a game installed called Atlantica but I've lost interest for the most part. Anything I play is short games on computer or xbox. There comes a point when stress is too much and an mmorpg isn't the escape it once was....that's when it's easy to quit.

Thanks flumes, eyckmans and heatherdee :) Yea the car trouble isn't really worked out but I'm just taking it a day at a time. Even if his friend fixes what's wrong with it at the moment, the car is on it's last legs and I shouldn't be driving it to the next town for work. But working on some solutions. I took my last vacation day for tonight so that is solved. I'm a bit less stressed for the moment because I believe it'll work out somehow.

Anyway yesterday I came out ok but had some issues on calories. For one nothing ticks me off more than to think something has a certain amount of calories than AFTER you eat it, you see they've cut it in half and said serving size is 2. That's what happened with my tiny box of bob evans biscuits and gravy yesterday, ended up being 660 calories. I won't be buyin those again unless I'm craving it and havin it for dinner, lol. I'll stick to my bob evans breakfast bowls.

And speaking of cravings....I've wanted a McDonald's frappe on and off the last week. Usually its worse Sundays cuz I'm at work and others have their cups around. I ended up buyin an almond joy, then decided I didn't want to use all those calories and split it with one of the girls. Unfortunately that didn't kick my craving. So finally I got a bottled mocha frappuccino at the store for around 300 calories instead of the McDonald's over 600 one and that did the trick. Guess its in my head but it really hit the spot.

I then had subway for dinner to balance it all out. So for one all these cravings tells me one week a month is going to be hard for me plus I need to find some other ways to manage stress, like exercise as soon as possible.

And also that I need to do some planning and get my daily diet on track. I've noticed a bit of a box/convenience trend and that's fine but I need to make sure at least for dinner that hubby and I are getting some good home cooked food. Next thing to tackle with my freezer cooking :)

Hi DKJ...

I was going to bring your box meals up...but not being in your shoes or your situation, I thought I would keep it to myself. I am soo glad you caught it on your own and plan to eat home cooked meals. Way cheaper and way healthier.

(I shopped in the US (we live on a border town) and walmart had FRESH chicken breasts boneless skinless for 178 a pound. I bought ten lbs! I froze one pack, and grilled the other last night....now my fridge has protein at my fingertips for the next week.) (Sorry...love shopping for bargains)

Again....hope your troubles dissapear and your weight just as fast!
Its great reading up on your journal too.

Heya!! I am so happy to read about your weight loss!! Congrats!! Oh and before I forget...I am soooooo not mad about you n stacy taking over my thread for a bit..lol I hope everything works out with your car situation...It is SO stressful dealing with car stuff I find. It's nice that you have someone you can trust working on your car.

Try to not worry about the bump in the calorie road...it happens to the best of us! :) Hope today is going good for you!!

Wow people actually look at my food log? I put the link there but I guess I thought I was bein sneaky and nobody would bother, lolz. I think I'll still always have the bob evans breakfast bowls on hand for now but yea, we need to start eating better for dinner. It's just going to take some pre planning with our work schedules. Thank goodness we have two crockpots :)

Crockpots are great....and you can make some really healthy stuff in them.

Also....when you have a day off....put a couple of quiet hours aside and get a bunch of food ready for the following week. Its easy...and mind calming. And saves soo much time during the week when all you gotta do is stand in front of the microwave for a minute while your throwing a salad together.
Nom Nom Nom!
Have a great day!

LOL That would so rock! It would be exhausting playing like that but wow, would it burn the calories! :D

That's cool you used to play WOW, I played it for a few months. I couldn't get into it as much as I had other MMOs in the past. I played FFXI Online for over 3 years. Although I did love my WOW Blood Elf - she roxarz! lol Her name was Kiss and she was totally adorable. I also played a Draenei on the other side. But like you, I lost a bit of weight when I stopped playing MMOs for a while. lol So I guess it's good that there are no real good ones out right now that I'm interested in playing.

But yeah, I'm totally looking forward to the day when I get to play an MMO AND get exercise at the same time. heheh

Crockpots are the sh*t :) I don't know what I'd do without mine!!

Flumes....The 'nom nom nom' is HILARIOUS!! I say that all the time and so whenever I see you post with it, it cracks me up :D On Facebook, I have a wedding picture of me holding this HUGE wedge of cake up to Bry's face, his mouth is wide open, and the caption is NOM NOM NOM! lol

aaaaaaannnnnnnd that's my story for today lol

HAHAH! That's funny! I love the "NOM NOM NOM" - cracks me up every time. Maybe it's because I'm such a foodee. lol

Speaking of foodee.....yea I've felt a binge coming on for sure, lol. Wish I knew why some weeks I could care less and other times I just want to EAT EAT EAT! So yea....my calories are inline but WHAT I'm eating sure isn't all that healthy. Course with the car not running we hadn't been to the grocery store so what we had to eat wasn't all that satisfying either.

But on a good note my car got fixed last night, it was the heater core. And we didn't have to pay too much either. We still need to work on getting the other car running and this one replaced before it gives out all together but at least the immediate panic is over. No transportation is my one freak out panic button. Well anyway, I gotta go get ready for work but then I have 3 days off so I'll try to swing by everyone's journals then. Thanks for checking on me guys :D

That's great that you got the car fixed, I was worried about you not having a vehicle.

Yeah, I totally know what you mean about the wanting to binge thing. I've not had any real strong food cravings in weeks and then BAM this past week I've wanted chocolate like no body's business. I've not bought any chocolate though, so I'm staying strong. I'm debating whether to give in and just get some chocolate already before I flip out and binge on something, or if I can actually outlast the cravings and maybe they will just "go away". LOL

hey hon. sorry to hear that things have been tough with the cars and stuff. :( Sometimes life just throws a lot of things at you to deal with and you got to stick your head down and get on with it!

Re the home cooking - once I started keeping some fresh vegetables around I was amazed at how much you could eat for the calories, how filling they are and how quickly they cook - seriously, it takes no time at all to boil or steam some carrots, brocolli, cauliflower, pak choi, peas etc... and I try and fill up with that stuff when I can, throw in a bit of chicken breast or fish for protein and bob's ya uncle.

That saying...this all goes to pot when work is busy and I'm back late and it ends up being a frozen low cal, low fat weight watchers meal in the microwave but at least I'm paying someone to make sure those aren't too unhealthy!

I had to google "bob's ya uncle", lol. I thought was maybe some brand name of seasoning but apparently it's british slang...so you just gave away where you're from, lol.

And yea.....all these tips and tricks I know but like you said when stuff gets busy it goes out the window. I ran out of the debbie meyer green bags and every time I buy produce and veggies half of it is going bad in 2 or 3 days. And with not having a car to go shopping that made it really difficult. That's taken care of now so my husband's brought it up twice now that we should find a farmers market. I bet the veggies would last longer and of course taste a zillion times better.

Yea I finally gave in...ended up two days instead of 1 though. Wednesday we went to lunch for mexican food and then had fast food for dinner. It wasn't very satisfying, I must say. Then yesterday I started off ok with breakfast but with no food in the house I started getting way hungry at lunch and things started to go bad. Finally I ate a bowl of buttered pasta which hit the spot but I felt sick after cuz you know how pasta sits. But I had my cheat day and then some so now I can get on with it. So today I need to get to the store and pick up a few things for sure and stay on track.

I think one thing that got to me besides the cravings was set weigh ins because I had joined a challenge here. I weighed myself on a day I KNEW I was retaining water when I normally wouldn't have. Then I had to log it for the challenge instead of ignoring it so I felt it as a set failure. Stupid how our brains work I guess.

But this just reminded me how much I do NOT want to be a slave to the scale because it can throw me way off. Even today I hopped on and the scale upset me that it's stopped moving.

I'd rather just stay on track, do what I know I need to do and let the pounds come off then have some little square box throw me off my game. So that being said I'm putting it away and I'm going to weigh myself once in a while. I'll probably weight until my clothes are looser and I know there's a difference and use it for positive reinforcement.

I was also going to mention that besides the weigh in for the challenge I also had problems with the fact I'm not able to do much for exercise yet. So not being able to do the challenges or support my team with minutes of exercise started me focusing negatively on what I wasn't doing instead of what I WAS doing. So I pulled out of the challenge and let them know that I'm just not ready for it yet.

But I had this problem another time and thinking about it gave me an idea. I was thinking of starting a challenge myself but making it so people can personalize the challenge in such a way that they are participating and having their own goals reinforced....not somebody elses.

By that I mean I'd have people state their own goal, whether it be exercise or improving their daily eating habits, or whatever and marking yes or no to that. Then for challenges each week I'd have a long list to pick from or they could make they could make one up. I think this would be great because I saw some people get into a fight on a challenge thread because the challenge was don't drink pop. One person felt there was nothing wrong with it and wasn't going to do the challenge...it got pretty heated.

Then for weigh ins I think I'd do weigh in or measurements. And then I'd have everyone get a free pass once a month to use and automatically get so many pts. And for people who didn't want to weigh in or do measurements every week maybe I'd have them just pick an extra weekly challenge?

Anyway I'm not sure how it would work out but my point is that I would make a challenge where everyone brought their own personal plan to the table and got points for sticking to their own personal goals, not ones set by somebody else. Not sure how it would work out though. Anyone else have any thoughts on that?

Sounds like a good challenge. Whatever your goals may be...Did you meet them for the day? Great! Get points.

I like that. My goal is to sweat 2 times a day. Whether it be 30 mins in morning and at night...or whatever, just SWEAT! I'd join. ;)!

Yeah, if the scale is effecting you in a negative way, maybe putting it a way for a little while might be good. :) I don't think that I could do that, I get on the scale first thing every morning and sometimes find myself getting on it 1 or 2 more times during the day. I don't know why, it's stupid really.

The personalized challenges sound good - it might be a bit complicated to try and explain though. Also, part of the challenge is that it allows you to compete with other people - although who's to say that people don't cheat, there is no way to prove what they say is true. lol

Anyway, I know things have been hard and the scale hasn't been moving so well, but don't give up. I have faith in you!

I think that for people just starting out the challenges can be demoralizing. The one where you had to walk 6kms is fine for people that are used to walking but not to somebody that has trouble walking for more that 15 minutes. sometimes rather than encourage people it could make them feel like failures. Your idea sounds great where people set there own challenges because they are more geared to everybodies capabilities and just by making their intentions public they are more likely to carry them out.
