Hello everyone,

Having reached my weight goal a year ago (130lbs, I'm 5ft6, having started at 230lbs), I have been really battling to maintain it and to be honest, this "maintenance phase" has been harder than the weight loss phase. Since I quit smoking a few months back, I've been putting weight on, so so so slowly, but I can't shake it and it really upsets me.

I've gone up to 142lbs, which, to be fair, is not that much...but when your starting frame is slim, its very noticable. I don't fit into my bras, had to buy new jeans, etc. It really pisses me off. Sometimes I feel like starting smoking again jsut to get my freakin body back.

I'm quite down about it and I feel....can I really be bothered to continue this stupid battle? Cant' I just sit down and eat nachos and stop going to the gym and the pool, etc? Gods sake I am so tired. So tired all the time, I'm really at hte point where I think, well, God wants me to be a fat and I'm fighting a losing battle here.

I dunno....I'm still doing my daily training and healthy eating, but its an effort. Obviously I do eat more crap without the cigarettes and some weeks I am good and dont' touch the chocolate/cheese/cookies, bu some weeks I scoff a few adn then feel horribly guilty about it.

Anyone else had the same issue once they quit the evil death sticks?

You really struggled a lot. You did a great Job I must say.. And now you are on 142lbs, that must be quite OK. Do concentrate on healthy diet instead of excessive food eating.

From what I've heard, quitting smoking makes your metabolism slow down. As well, some may try to fill the void of the nicotine with food. It is possible that this happened to you. Continue to exercise to increase your metabolism, maybe increase the intensity if you can, and continue to watch what you eat. Eat in control, don't splurge. If you decide that you want to have a treat, have a controlled amount. Have one and then end it there.

Hope this helps, good luck! Remember smoking is much worse than being a little overweight!

THanks for the replies. Yes I worked very hard to lose the weight that I did, thats why it upsets me so much to see it come back. I think, actually, in hindsight, that the smoking was very instrumental to my weight loss. Nicotine is a massive hunger suppressant. Oh well, I shall perservere and yes, being a non smoking person is better than being a very thin smoker. Too right.

I am male and 56 and would love to chat with men who have my problems, plateaued weight loss and are diabetic.I am south asian too!

Leading a Healthy lifestyle IS an ongoing effort, it's something you have to commit to and work on everyday.

Quitting smoking is a huge accomplishment in itself.

Try including your friends/family in your healthy habits or making them a bigger part of your lifestyle.
