Question about Getting Lean Long Muscles

I'm trying to reshape my body. I used to be a runner in high school, and I also took weight training for a term. One thing I realized quickly was that I gained muscle mass so easily, but I do not want to be bulky. :( My particular problem area is my upper arms, but I also tend to gain a lot of bulk in my abs and my thighs. Can anyone give me any suggestions on what exercises to do and how much, so that I have a better chance of getting long, small, lean muscles rather than large bulky ones? Thanx a bunch! :D

I would incorporate circuit weight training, HIIT and a Pilates based group exercise class.

The circuit training will develop high quality, lean muscle while burning a great deal of calories. The HIIT Cardio will condition your cardiovascular system and the pilates based group exercise class focuses on your core/trunk strength as well as elongating your existing muscles.

The link above will give you some more detail on what pilates is and how it can help you.
