Question about abs

Ok I have a gut and I am not worried about a six pack now that is a long ways away but im wondering now should I worry about a good ab routine now? or wait till I lose some fat? I really do not care to do abs at the gym I usually do crunches in the morning and at night before sleep.

drifta: I think most people will tell you that I am a HUGE believer in the value of core strength. Your abs; obliques, lower back, and several others, make up the "trunk" of your body. All movement originates in the core/trunk of your body; a weak core means a weak body. Simply because a six pack doesn't matter to you does not mean you should neglect your abs. See; your body needs to be worked symmetrically. If you do a pushing exercise you need to do pulling exercises too; this avoids muscle imbalances. Your abs are muscles that need to be stressed just the same. Do a google for "core strength exercises" About.com has some great ones; do 1 or 2 exercises during every weight training workout you do, or on your off days. You'll notice HUGE gains everywhere else.

First of all, do not work your abs twice a day - treat them like every other muscle and work them only 2-3 times per week. Another thing - if you want to lose body fat around your waist, the most important thing is a combination of cardio and a clean diet. You can do all the cardio and crunches you want, but unless you eat clean, you'll never have a hard abdomen.

every one has perfect abs, as one site i read but it "the 1200 lbs women who needs a forklift to get out of bed has perfect abs, its just covered in layers of fat." to get "perfect abs" you need to have a clean diet, its probally the most important thing, then comes cardio or HIIT.
