Qjay's thread

lol, nope. I go DO something about it! :p
I walked out into the kitchen and grabbed that bigass bag of yellow hell, and put it in his room. I was SO freakin' miserable until I did that, because I knew they were there, and that he would never notice, and that he wouldn't mind if I DID eat them.
I skipped waking him up just to yell at him in the middle of the night, though. It's probably a good thing, he only caved in and bought them because he's getting sick, I think. He's been running a low fever, and actually called in sick to a job he loves; I'm hoping it is nothing serious, because if it is, he's going to have to miss a bunch of work. He gets colds like I do: At least a week of non-functionality.

I was doing all right today, but I ordered a pizza and some barbecue wings :(
I had my sandwich, and some sweetened oatmeal, other than that. The oatmeal is only 300 calories this time (I use splenda with a drizzle of honey over it), and no M&M's.
I had 5 slices of the pizza throughout the day (300 cal/slice! OMG! ), thin crust, specialty pizza, and pretty much an entire order of the wings (800-ish calories)
So I am looking at 1500 + 800 + 400 + 300 or around 3000 calories, total.
It amazed me though; I still have a few slices left in the fridge.
3000 is more than I normally have, but I worked out for a half hour tonight, half a mile up a 3% grade, and a lot of arms and shoulders on the machines.
I just couldn't get into the workout, but I still broke a sweat, and my muscles are a bit sore. At least I walk the 1/10 of a mile each way, right?

Blah, 3000 calories. Damn the speed of this internet research! I had myself convinced it was good for me!

Glad to hear that your munchy management technique was effective!! :D Good on you for doing your workout regardless of not feeling like you're getting into it. That feeling of tighter muscles is worth having I reckon. :)

Shoot, being able to walk a fast half mile uphill to the hockey game, and then go all the way up to the nosebleed seats several times was a real reward, in itself! I know that I wouldn't have been able to do it a couple of months ago.

It was kinda funny, I had the tickets, so they all had to wait for me ANYHOW; everyone else had ditched out ahead to try to get there faster. I let em go, lol. I walked fast for me, and up a hill; I was a little winded, but immediately we lost the youngest member of our entourage, so I had to go find her (on the far side of the arena, the EXACT OPPOSITE of where we were seated) so it was a good night for exercise, and it really showed me some of the changes I am making.
The half mile up 3% grade (on the treadmill) for me is a big step, for example. It isn't that I get tired going up it, it's that my ankles and knees become very stiff and sore when I walk, so I have to stop because it hurts, not because I am tired. I am now going as far as ever, but adding exercise to it to get my heart rate up and to build up a sweat. It's slow going, but I have plenty of time, and it's not like I have much of a choice; if I want to be able to walk until I retire, I better get myself into better shape.

I'm not doing this for my HEALTH, you know!

Exercise does get easier the more you do it. It's funny because I am almost bored with my normal treadmill. I tried a little incline but it seemed like work so I turned it off. . ??? I know! That's what I said! So I'm going to have to give it another go.

Here is the link to the WW General Tso's Chicken. I am making it tonight and like I said, my aunt and her family loves it. I will have to kick up the spice a little because we like things hot!

:D It's great to hear you starting to enjoy the rewards of your effort Qjay! :D :D
Yay!! Go Qjay! :D

The joy is fleeting, but the day-to-day misery never seems to stop.
I was hungry most of today, to be honest. Even at 3000 calories.
Not like "I need food now!" hungry, but "Jeez, I'd like a steak..." hungry.

Even when I get full, I could easily eat a lot more food. I just want to get to the point where I can do chinups and don't have knee problems anymore.
I swear, if I could lose a pound of muscle for every 4 pounds of fat, I'd consider it a good tradeoff at this point; just as long as I somehow manage to get my inner calorie counter under control.

Ugh, cheery grins...

Hey, that recipe is pretty close to the one I used when I tried to make it myself. I was not able to make it edible, but maybe I did something wrong.
I love the stuff at the restaurants, but not if they deep fry it, and most places do. We had a place that used a wok like you are supposed to, but they went out of business.
Maybe it was the broth was my problem, I'll have to give it a try again.
Thanks, Joni!

It's great that you are persisting despite the fact that it's a stuggle. I guess you are a bit like me in that you've reached a stage where it doesn't seem optional any more. I'm sorry you find the eating so hard. What I'm doing has never seemed as difficult as what you are managing. I wish I had a for sure solution! :) I know our journey's are all different. Maybe wishing for a steak is a sign that you should have one - or just generally have more lean meat/protein?

I dunno, but I am going to do some shopping today while I am out and about. I'm actually craving my stupid salads more often than anything else, but I got the pizza for a reason. I have no idea WHY, but I did.
Grrr...

8 oz of salmon, a lot of lettuce, and a serving of light italian dressing, usually. Sometimes some croutons, and additional seasonings from my very nice spice rack.
I usually have a mixing bowl full of tasty salad at that point, so it both feels like a lot of food, AND is visually a lot of food, so it's satisfying. Sometimes I use 12 oz of chicken instead, those are just the can sizes, so they are what I use.

I especially like splashing them with onion powder, or some dill seasonings, or a pinch of parmesan, or some seasoning salt, or a few dashes of hot sauce, or some vinagrette, or pretty much anything like that that will add flavor and change the way it tastes to be something different.

Lemon juice, has even happened. *shrugs* It's a really good salad for 300-400 calories, and WAY better than a chef's salad. A Cobb salad can beat the heck out of it, but then again a Cobb salad doesn't even PRETEND to be good for you. Eggs, bacon, blue cheese... Sounds kinda good, at the moment. :p

Well, yeah, it does sound good at the moment ;) Almost breakfasty!

Your salads sound very flavorful - I need to add some seasonings to mine.

My typical dinner salads are:
2c romaine lettuce
3 chicken breast tenders cut up (105 cal cooked in 35 cals of BBQ sauce)
apples
carrots
broccoli
cucumber
tomato
corn
seasoned croutons (40 cal per .25 cup)
sometimes some pine nuts, almonds or walnuts - but not always.

Mixed with fat free ranch dressing (30 cal per 2 TBS)

It's HUGE! :D
I like that part ;)

If you leave out the lettuce and change the ranch to italian, you have a nice dish full of marinated veggies! :p
And of course a little bit of chicken in it, but still, it's about the same. Add some corn and it sounds almost like tex-mex. I do weird stuff like that a lot with my foods, changing seasonings around to make them still be delicious.

A few years ago, I discovered "wilting" for spinach and collard/mustard greens. When I started doing it, it was just a way to fit more food into me and make it easier to get at the other toppings, but now, I just see it as a good way to bulk up the nutritional content.
I haven't had spinach for awhile, though. I am pretty sure I got some of the polluted stuff that was running around over the late summer/early fall time. I ate a lot of it, fresh, and had some severe stomach problems. Of course, I'm a fricken MORON so I didn't put the idea together until I had already finished it off and was going to spend the next month living on pepto, but it kinda made me shy of a lot of those fresh leafy greens.
At least I can still eat iceberg...

Now see - I have to leave in the lettuce so that I can hide the vegies ;)

And a month of pepto seems harsh :( Must have been a horrible time.
The only effect that little scare had on me was my FAVORITE thai noodle salad was removed from Trader Joe's. Why, you might ask? Each container had ONE half leaf of spinach on the top as a garnish.

Gone. My favorite pasta dish gone.
(It is all about me, right?)
;)

My stomach gets sensitive to good foods sometimes, anyhow. It was an exceptionally long period for me, though, and when they started talking about the bagged brocoli at the end, I had just started eating a bunch of THAT, too.
I'm sure the fiber exacerbated things, but still, it was not a pleasant time, overall.
It was in the middle of my "I've discovered new ways to bend my knee" phase, so I really did have to be careful about exercise and everything, and toward the end of all my recovery, I decided to eat right for the holidays, and then kept it up.

At least I don't rely on having exercise partners anymore, and can go work out on my own without worrying too much about my safety. My roomy sets an alarm and if he hasn't heard from me by the time it goes off, he calls me to make sure I am not being ground to pieces by having fallen on the treadmill while it's running or something equally macabre.

That really is my biggest exercising fear, at the moment. Or something equally horrid on the eliiptical, I suppose. They are surrounded by other machines, so I just don't use them at all.

It's funny, I never had many stomach problems until I tried to eat right, and it was one of the big reasons I would always quit in the past. Now, I have a bottle of pepto pills in my car, and 2 in my house.

Completely random::: Treadmills are fun. My dad's puppies tried to get on the treadmill with him one day and flew off the back. They're Yorkshire Terriers and smaller than a cat but cute.

whats an eliptical. everybody always talks about them on here and i havent got a clue what it is. enlighten me :D

Yorkies are all right; I don't like many small dogs, but they are among my least despised. The thing I like is that they have always been friendly and loving little mutts, instead of aggressive and obnxious like the toy poodles or chihuahuas my family seems to love. The fact that they actually have soft fur doesn't hurt, either. ;)

Ellipticals! Here's a link:

I have had a foggy brain for the short amount of time I spent awake, so my food decisions were not very clear.
What I do remember: (estimated cal)
Giant glass of strawberry milk (500 cal)
The last three slices of pizza (900 cal)
Bowl of oatmeal (400 cal)
Almonds (300 cal)
2 Chimichangas (600 cal)
A cheesy bagel, buttered, with 2 oz of cheese substitute. (450 cal)

I think that's everything, but *shrugs*

It isn't so bad; I feel lousy and don't plan on eating that much again anytime soon. I just couldn't get my brain functioning properly, I guess. I hope you had a better day :D

Oh, that reminds me! Hey everyone, SPAM may taste good, but it's got a LOT of fat in it, so you shouldn't do... err.. eat it.

Like that had to go in every diary. PUT IT IN YOUR SIG!
