Pull Ups/Chin Up Pointers

Hi

Ever since i can remember i've never been able to do more then 3-4 chin ups. I don't know whether its purely to do with body mass or lack of practice but my friend always says been able to do it one day may save your life.

So with that in mind one of my aims is to be able to get to the stage where i can do wide grip chin ups pretty competantly, does anyone have any advice on what i need to be working or how to better myself

Thanks

If you can only do 4 chin-ups, try doing sets of 2 reps until you can't do anymore. Once you can do 3 or 4 sets of 2 reps, then move on to sets of 3 reps. Keep up this progression and you should see a difference in the number of chins you can do in a single clip.

I'm assuming that by chin-ups, you mean an underhand grip (palms facing toward you). Wide grip pull-ups (palms facing away from you) are the hardest but they will work your lats better than anything else.

weighted chinups/pullups.

OR

You could just begin a workout routine, which you increase overall body strength, not to mention get you better at chinups :)

Do a negative or assisted. Negative is where you do the reverse of the pull up/chin up (start from the top, and slowly go down). Assisted is where you use some sort of aid to help you do pull ups. Sometimes reducing your weight by as much as 50%.

Also, for weights, you can do deadlifts, bench, lat pull downs, etc.

I used to do 50 reps for my back work out and would stick to that for 4 weeks. The first week I would get 50 in about 5 sets, the next week it would be 4 sets then 3 and then 2. If it takes you 15 set to get to 50 give it a try anyway and see what happens

think i'll start off on taking evans advice of higher frequency of smaller reps n see how far i get and week by week see how much i improve before starting to do higher number sets of less frequency, thanks for the pointers though
