PT Certifications

I know there are various certifications: ACSM, AFAA, NASM, NSCA, ACE, AFAA and I read the thread regarding the best one. Seems like many people said NASM but some said they would chose NSCA if they had to do it all over again. I have two questions:

1) Can you get multiple certifications? Why can't you be NASM and NSCA certififed?

2) How do you get certified? Internet course, Community College course?
2b) Is one method preferred over another?

Personal Training is something that I think I can really get into, but not sure where to start!

Thanks

1.) YOu can get certified by different companies. Where did u here u cant get certified by NSCA and NSAM? Im currently studying for my cert with NSCA.

2.) Go online and buy the study materials. Study them for a few months until you are ready(you study on your own) and then go back online and buy the test, either online or written and then go take the test in a location that company specifies.

I hold multiple certs with both organizations, they both have a value. The difference between the two is that NSCA has deeper roots, it has been around longer and its geared more towards strength and conditioning. NASM not to be outdone, is geared towards correcting muscle inbalance, and takes on a more PT feel. It comes down to beliefs. Some say trainers are here to make functioning human beings better, some say trainers are here to fix whatever is ailing the client. Now you have to decide!
