protein timing

When would it be better for me to consume my protein shakes...pre or post training? I have read many who say pre and many who say post..which is really better?

After training I'd go with a fast absorbing carb. Dunno about bananas since they have quite a bit of fructoses (but it's better than nothing of course). Dextroses would probably be my choice. I believe a lot of people recommend a mix of dextroses and maltodextrin.

Yep, dextrose in your post workout shake will aid in protein absorbtion by creating an insulin spike. It is recommended to take between 50-70g of dextrose. Should leave slower digesting cards like multidextrin to another meal time throughout the day otherwise it just slows down the body getting its protein straight after the workout when it need sit most.

I was told to drink semi skimmed milk as it is better for muscle building than other milks. Also I think your meant to eat/drink protein 20 mins after the work out

So eat dextrose before workout?

I just go with whey protein post workout. Normally mix with milk. Though recently water due to my fear of acne lol.

I don't know the nutrtional facts for skimmed milk, but water is better to take with your post workout protein shake because the fat in milk slows down your digestion rate, which makes it longer for the protein and carbs to get to your muscles. And the sooner you can get your pwo drink in the better.
