Is it true that protein shakes can make you grumpy and depressed and for the first few weeks very tired?

Im worried about my mate whos jsut started taken a different protein shake - Met x or somin = he was on pro mass which isent a specific protein shake is it?

Last week he was fine but this week hes been grumpy and tired - been sleeping loads - hes been on the new protein shake about 2/3 weeks now!
 
ive never heard anything like that. i dont see any reason why protein shakes would make someone tired.
 
It sounds more like your friend is over trained. Tell him to take 4-7 days off the gym and get his vitamins and rest.

Ive never heard that before!!! Maybe he is just tired and grumpy or just grumpy! Overtraining can leave you feeling very low and lethargic.
There is a lot of benefits to protein shakes....good ones that is try they have a good range of protein powders. Remember it's the quality of the protein not the quantity!
 
I think you're getting confused between drinking more protein via a shake, and a low carb, high protein lifestyle like Atkins. Super low carbs WILL make you sluggish, tired, and affect mental abilities.

Just adding more protein will simply add calories to the diet, and give you some wicked gas. Best to up fiber intake when you start adding protein.
