I know what you mean. I avoided a lot of words at first like "diet" and "lose" as in "lose weight" I think of losing something as bad, we "suffer" a loss, and I didn't want to treat my weight reduction like that. It helped me in the beginning, but I realized later that getting hung up in the words doesn't make me feel any better, so now I say what's easier, and I just don't treat my "diet" like it's temporary. Some people have special dietary needs forever, mine are just for healthy foods, so for short, I still say "diet". I do understand the negative feelings associated with some words in this weight battle, but I think letting go of the negative feelings and associations and just redefining words has worked better for me than trying to change everyone else's vocabulary. I found it hard to get people around me to stop saying the words I didn't like, so I stopped not liking them and just treated the words differently; assigned new significance. Diet is for dietary guidelines, and weight loss is sort of a chase game feel (like cops & robbers

), like you take a particularly intricate path and "lose" what's tailing you. And in my case, I know exactly what's tailing me, and I'd be happy to lose it! Maybe my little reframing will help you too, maybe not, but it's worth a shot!
