If anybody can respond to this, especially those in the medical field, it would be more than appreciated.
Yesterday, I was doing my powerlifting routine at the school weight room. I got through everything just about and was on my last exercise. The exercise I was doing was some pinch grip work. Basically, you take a DB and grip it with your fingers for a certain amount of time. On the workout that the coach put out, pinch grip work was to be done 3x45 seconds. I got through my first 2 sets fine. I had a 25lb. DB in each hand when on my last set. After about 30-35 seconds, I felt like it was really going to fall, so I wanted to get the last few seconds in so I held on as best I could. Well, after a little while, I felt like I got hit in the back of the head, and dropped the weights. I felt a little weird, half like I was going to pass out. I slowly walked out of the weight room and into the lockeroom. I laid down on the bench for about 10 minutes with my eyes closed. The back of my head to the left was throbbing. I think I might have held my breath for a couple seconds to long.-Rookie mistake, I know.
Around a half hour after it happened and I didn't do anything the pain faded away. About 10 minutes later, I didn't feel anything and thought that I was alright. So I changed my shoes and did some treadmill. About 3 minutes on 3, 10 minutes on 7, and 3 minutes on 3 again. I felt fine doing the running, my head didn't really hurt.
Fast forward to today. I went into the weight room, did some stretching and stuff. I wasn't even thinking about what happened the day before. I started the workout fine. I did "Speed Pulls Against Mini 50-60%" which are basically speed deadlifts with 2 small elastic bands holding it to the ground. I did 8x1 @ 135. The weight wasn't too much, in fact I could have done more. Didn't feel anything in my head.
Then, the next 2 things on the workout I had to skip, because I'm the only sophmore in there. There are like 15 seniors and 2 or 3 juniors. All big, tough powerlifters, so they do large amounts of weights and they were taking up the spots for the 2 exercises. So I moved onto the reverse grip lat pulldowns. It was 4x8. So the first set I did it @ 75. Didn't feel anything in my head, and the weights were pretty easy. So the next set I moved the weight up to 95. I did about 3 or 4 of them before the back left side of my head started pounding again. I ended up not finishing my set, or the rest of my workout. I didn't want to risk it if I have possible injury.
After about 40 minutes or so, the headache faded away again. Now, I don't have powerlifting again until Monday (this whole week is vacation). I was wondering if I should just use these next 3 days for rest and see how it is Monday.
My next questions are, if you think it is a head injury or anthing that can do some damage...if I go to the hospital-what tests would they do on me? and do you think it would be expensive.
It feels like a regular headache right now, but when I lift heavy weights, like I did in the weight room, it feels really really painful. The first time it happened I felt like I was going to pass out. Today, I sort of felt the same way, like I was going to pass out.
I mean, it's a little embarressing that I hurt myself doing pinch grip work instead of squats or deads or something, but thats what happened =/. Thanks for reading this, those that did. If anybody has any advice or comments, it would be more than appreciated. Thanks.
