Possibble- Bulk and Cut Fat?

Hi I'm new to the forums. I'm around 5'10 and 130 pounds but I still have some fat I'd like to get rid of (Goal is around 10% BF). That sounds pretty light but it's not considering I don't have much muscle at all.

I used to be around 5'6'' and probaly 145 pounds but with a changed diet and increased exercise (I use a stationary bike pretty much every day for 45 min and it says it burns 900 calories which is probaly in reality more like 500-600. After 2 months or so w/o further results i came to the forums and realized i should only do cardio every other day)

Now if decreased cardio to every other day, and started to lift on off days, would I be able to gain muscle while beginning to cut fat again? I saw many threads such as "bulk or lose weight first?" so I'm just curious can it be done at the same time? THANKS

Also, how much g of protein would you recommend a day, and sorry for the long intro/questions but I'd appreciate any help. THANKS

What % BF are you right now? Many people often start at 10% BF, but being that you are 5'10 and 130 pounds it might not be a good idea to go any lower because I believe you're on the brink of being underweight.

You probably don't burn even 500-600 calories on the stationary bike, I think the machine you're using is way off, but maybe you're just going very fast? I don't know.

When bulking you shouldn't do long periods of cardio every other day, 2-3 sessions of HITT weekly for 20 minutes is much more effective and productive.

You could persay do that but it would take an unreasonable amount of time to build any muscle and you're better off just bulking and then cutting. Also with the amount of food you're going to need to be consuming the cardio still won't utilize all of the energy so you will gain fat regardless, just less. But if you overload of cardio and try lifting at the same time you're not going to get much further.

1 - 1.5 x bodyweight for grams of protein you should intake.

** Edit.. Oh I should've seen your post Derwyddon before writing up all this.. *sigh*

OK Thanks for all the help, and sorry for making you write the long response.

Maybe I don't necessarily mean bulk, I just wanna build muscle and get in better shape, like an end goal would probaly be 140-150 pounds.

Would the Bill Starr Glenn Padley 5x5 allow me to slowly gain muscle mass (Not insane amounts) while cutting fat, or is this out of the question.

Or should I jutst bulk and then cut the fat liek you said.
Thanks again

Don't worry about it I didn't mean it in that way, its just that my answers are fairly brief and you could probably find more detailed explanations by reading articles around the site.

It depends on your goals and how much time you have. If you just want to improve health in general and gain muscle and strength as time goes by with no real rush then your method would probably work out, but if you're looking to potentially build a good amount of mass then bulking and cutting will be the best choice.

For example, bulking to get to 140 - 150 lbs would take around 2.5 - 5 months at a steady rate of 1 lb per week, considering you want minimal fat gain so 2 lbs is sort of out of the picture. Doing it the other way may take much longer, but at the end you won't have to do much cutting if any.

so your suppose to gain the muscle then try to cut the fat? I was under the impression it was the other way around (i'm a noob though). I am 5' 8.5 148 pounds, and I want to do the same thing that the topic creator is asking about. I want to gain muscle mass, and cut fat at the same time. How should I do this?

Can i lose fat while gaining muscle?
You can cut some fat and then bulk, or bulk and then cut. You should lift through both cycles, though.

Yeah those are the two options, but in this case there doesn't seem to be any reason for cutting any further.
