Please tell me whether this is weird???

Hi guys,

I have been dieting for some days now and people have told me how much weight I have lost just after being on my diet for 4 days then when I go and weight myself the scale says that I have gained 2 kgs (4.4lbs). But on the inches I have dropped such inches in different parts of my body. Now what I wanted to know was whether it was completely normal for me to gain weight in my diet while am dropping inches or is there something I am doing wrong in my diet plan. Plz help me. Thanx in advance

Opposite is what will have been meant.
Water is substantially heavier than fat, put a block of lard in water and you will see how much so.
You can have lost a bit of body fat, though 4 days worth will not be massive, and gained water weight if the scales are going up while size is coming down.
The scales are ironically one of the worst measures of success regarding fat loss, especially if exercising too. Muscle gain shows weight gain, 3/4 water so again very heavy stuff, while you are burning fat all day long just to feed this new lean mass.
Much as this will be difficult, look at success of your diet after 4 weeks or months not days. Initial changes are poor reflection of how well the diet will work and can often be the opposite to long term truth.

Ok then so to measure my changes should I just use a tape and measure the main parts of my body such as the waist, neck, hips etc... Would that be better for me to see the changes that I have done?

Measure is OK but you can gain lean mass too. truth is unless you have ready regular access to a medical MRI machine everything has areas of inaccuracy. Cheerful soul me.
Best and most difficult thing to use well, the mirror. On days you feel good you will see yourself better and the opposite, but it is where the changes will be. One of the things I have read about is someone taking this a step further and photgraphing themself daily for several months to create a short film to show their progress, they were shocked how well they had done.
Use a combination of things, measure with tape can be great if you can guarantee you are getting the exact same spot every time and able to allow for skin shrinkage etc. Scales are good for trends especially if they have body fat function. Mirror is great as stated but a combination that shows everything going well or otherwise takes some beating.

The most difficult thing for you and for many people starting out regardless of age, is to think in the real long term. It is a lot easier for an old fogey like me who has been doing this for decades and is looking at doing it for decades more, but it is just as important regardless.
You will do well if you think about this as a lifetime commitement. The other thing with that is you need to make sure it's changes you like. Compare it to a marriage, if you are drawn to someone because they look like a good bet then commit to them only to find they are horrible to live with that could lead you to stray or divorce. So its' worth playing the field a bit find the diet and activities you love then marry them.

Daily measures are great for trend analysis. What you have to be disciplined enough for is not allowing a bad day to get you down. It is the best and most difficult way.
Build up a spreadsheet where you log everything then plot it on graphs so you can see general trends over time in the most accurate realistic manner.

If you measure up on a good day and have a normal or bad day next it is worth remembering that waist measurement can be down to remains of food in your colon, full bladder, general bloat from air, muscular tension, position of diaphram and so many other things. This is why it has to be trends not day to day comparison.

I used to be a lot less dull in my youth and do remember going on a night out after the gym, then being back there the day after 4 pounds lighter. I had dehydrated myself so much through dancing and generally being a prat that I had dropped a load of water. A couple of days later I was up 2 pounds on the original and it took a week to be back to more consistant measures.
At the time I was wanting to gain weight so these sudden swings were annoying. It's easy to look back and see it was nothing to stress about now but at the time I hated it.
