Pec Help (limited resources)

I have man boobs...

I'm around 30pounds overweight, this is after losing 20 pounds. I'm 235 pounds, 6'2, and I'm very broad shouldered, so 30 pounds might be a little off.

My stomach is starting to shrink, making my man boobs more noticeable. I have only been using dumbbells, and my own body weight to work out. I've been doing a lot of butterflys, lifts, curls, push ups and such, but am sure I can be doing more to concetrate on my pecs. I don't have a bench so I can't do several of the exercises that I know.

What suggestions do you have?

Continue with your cardio and reducing calories. You can build mass in that region as slong as you continue to progressively use heavier weights. So buy more dumbbells or join a gym.

Just realized the women and men have seperate sections...oopsy.

Are there any particular exercises I might be able to do with some dumbbells, or my own body weight to help?

i'd incorporate a good diet 6 meals a day with compound lift training FULL BODY workouts because if you continue with all these pec work outs if you think about it you are going to end up with incredibly toned pectorals, but when you lose the bodyfat the rest of your body will look small, undefined, and feel flabbier than your chest. also working your whole body will build more muscle throughought burning more calories helping you shave off your boobs

No, I actually mentioned that in my first post, lol.

I guess I'll have to stick with butterflies, inverted flies, presses, and good ol' fashioned push ups. I have actually been doing my own version of BD. I'm sure I could figure out a way to do it with a chair. thx

Man boobs... could be simply extra fat or do you really have "man boobs"? This is where you actually have a breast. Don't mean to scare you but if that's the case you need to have surgery to lose them.

Lets assume it's nothing more than extra fat. You need to get your head out of the "what chest exercises can I do..." process. You need to reduce overall body fat. I know it sounds boring and I know it's not a "do this and you will not have man boobs" answer. To put it bluntly there isn't an answer like that.

Reduce overall body fat. Then the man boobs will go away. Yes you should strength train, but you should strength train the ENTIRE body. The more you add lean muscle mass, the more calories you burn, the faster the man boobs become a manly chest :)

So you don't have a bench. Can you get one? If not can you get a stability ball? That can double as a bench. You can do incline/decline and regular presses, flyes, etc.

You are already doing body weight exercises.... good for you. You can do dips on a chair. Improvise. You can do it. But remember that you can do pushups ALL DAY long and your man boobs aren't going anywhere until you lose body fat :)

Well, I've only had them over the past few years when I started gaining a lot of weight, so I'm going to assume it is just excess fat. I can already feel the muscle around it hardening a bit, so hopefully your right, and once I drop some weight they'll become pecs instead of boobs.

I had made a post asking for a reasonable diet that won't make me feel like I'm dead to life. I picked up a men's health book, and will also follow that link in your sig to get some information in order to establish a good fat burning diet.

I appreciate your help.

Is it true that working you 'pecs' is not going to reduce the fat in that area? Just as sit ups will not reduce the fat in your stomach any faster than running will?

Reducing Fat

Yep, unfortunately, weight training just builds and/or maintains your muscle underneath the fat. But more muscle=more calories burned throughout the day.

Pec exercises will not burn fat on the chest. If spot reduction worked I can guarantee you I'd be doing lots and lots of leg lifts to get rid of my "saddle bags" :)
