pealing back the layers

I have spent years agonizing over my weight and trying to get my emotions under control. I had to reach far back to my childhood to understand why I didn't care about myself and my body. I had to do a review of my family to understand the silent pecking order that exhists in many families and a few months ago. I kept stating to my husband that my life was going to change in approximately 6 month and I didn't know how but something whether good or bad was going to happen and a major change would ensue. Well my Father who I haven't seen in numerous years passed away just at that 6 month mark and life has divinely changed. All the work i was doing emotionally over the last 20 years culminated in the release of his death. I feel he is there helping me to move toward really knowing myself and my body for the first time in my life. It's time to let go, let God, and let myself back in as i release the pain.

Welcome to the forum.

I am pleased that you find yourself finally ready to make the changes that you have long thought necessary.

Effective weight loss requires a lifelong change to a new way of life. This encompasses both nutrition and exercise. There are great sections on the forum for both of these with very informative sticky threads.

We also need to take control of ourselves emotionally of course. Building healthy habits so that we do much of the hard work automatically helps. I walk a lot and find that the rhythm helps to keep me more calm which helps. I know that if I do fall down and binge I tell people who phone me to distract me the next day or so to break it. Also - I am a big believer in immediate self forgiveness. In any life long thing - we are going to eventually hit a day when we overeat compared to our plan. If we beat ourselves up over it we are more likely to feel bad and do it again in comfort eating... We need to accept that we are human and we didnt do any major harm. This alone helps you get straight back on track and no real damage is done.

We need to congratulate ourselves each and every good day. Living healthily is something that we should be proud of.

We are in control of the food that goes into our mouths. We are able to make our weight loss dreams come true. We just need to focus on the job and work hard.

I love this, this sounds fantastic!! You have found and got to grips with yourself and your emotions, - this is the majority of any battle. After all the mind controls the body and everything that you do! Once this battle occurs most have the power to acheive anything
