k guys....getin nervous....have a sharp pain under my foot...right foot...on the right side.....in the arch region....but allll the way to the right side...where that part of your foot hits the ground.....didn't start feeling it till after my morning run.... (only 5K!) what do you think it is??? and what should i do for it???
Thanks

assuming you have followed our other advice about the shoes and socks and stuff.............

this is a shot in the dark but, go get a foot scrape off thing at the mall. them lil gals do it for 25 bucks and it feels great. Sometimes a sock gets a roll in it, or a lil pebble gets in your shoe and starts a callas and then it grows in verses out.

for $25 bucks you can't miss.

better than chopping it off at the knee.

is it constant or only when you step down?
did anything pop when you first felt it?
does it feel like muscle or in bone?
have you been icing it?
give it a break and ride a bike!-if it hurts don't do it!!!!!!!
see a doctor....better to err on the side of caution

only when i step down...dunno if it feels like bone...maybe ligament,......got it elevated...at work though...i'll ice when i get home

you have it elevated?? holy cow, you have an injury! a pedicure, I now know it is called, may not e the best recommendation...

But you are a girl so, take it as gospel and get one on the way home from the doc's office.

My first guess might be that you sprained/strained your arch. I have done that a few times, since I tend to run in fields rather than on the tar.

if you are looking to tuff it out for your half marathon i would suggest going to a PT and have an arch insert made for you but i still recommend seeing a doctor have and x-ray done to make sure it is not a stress fracture ... they wont see any ligament damage without an MRI but as i said in your over training thread more rest would only help your performance at this point this is what i was warning you about in my reply to that thread
minimize loss of cardiovascular conditioning by riding a bike, just double the distance of your bike workout(if running 6, bike at least 12 or more) try to maintain the same time frame and HR it takes you to do your run workouts-i know this is no substitute for running but at this point you need to go with maintenance while recuperating your injury-just my suggestion

Guessing of the top of my head, I'd say that you have a case of plantar fasciitis. It's basically a sprain/sprain of the arch in the foot. Do a search for it in yahoo or google, and see if the other symptoms match up to what you have.

If you do have PF, then you should rest the foot, and do something like bike riding. You'll be able to find more remedies on a website which speaks specifically about the injury.

Also, if you can, then you may want to check with a doctor just to make sure that it's not fractured or something like that.

Good luck!

check this out...
