Each workout lasts about an hour
i also fit about 3 hours cardio in a week (cross trainer & rowing)
kayaking 2 hours a week plus cycling where i can
muscle mass is inceasing which i want to continue (surpised at forty)
any advice would be grateful:) :)

After looking at this my first thing would be to say your definately over-training. You are only giving yourself one day off per week from weight training and that seems to be excessive. Are you working out heavy? Do you feel fatigued? My suggestion would be, to let your body do the talking. If you feel exhausted, then take the day off. It's ok to rest and give your body a break. Actually it's recommended because that's when your body grows.

You say that your making gains, which is great, but don't forget your only 6 months into it so your going to make some gains initially and then most likely plateau at some point.

I typically don't post too many replies but I felt compelled to respond to yours because I believe that's what has held me back for many years. Now I am listening to my body and making excellent gains. More does not mean better. Good Luck!

I agree. Listening to your body is not an easy thing to learn. Over time you will learn th signs of over training so that you can prevent it.

If you are still having results you are not over training.... Yet. If you were your results would stagnate or slide back.

Pay attention. Everyone dips in to the over training pool a little in order to learn where the line is.

Steve Reeves felt that 2 or 3 full-body workouts was best & told folks like Bill Pearl (who trained 6 days a week, 2-times each: Chest/Back, Delts/Legs, & Arms/Forearms) that he would get better results training less days a week more intensely that the 6-days with low intensity -- Bill Pearl seems to have agreed, but continued with his 6-days a week (the last I heard Bill Pearl was still doing his 6-days a week at age 73)... both men built & maintained great physiques each using their own diverse methods.

So, how do you feel (physically & mentally) about your training?

I believe that Dave Draper had done 6 days a week, then favored 5 days a week for quite awhile, then scaled things down to 4 days a week as he got older (using various split-systems for this high-volume style of training).

P.S.: check out these sites:

You're not over training. Its a great mass building routine. I would take a 5-7 day break every month and a half. Then cycle off every three months...worked great for me. This is just my opinion...don't get mad:cool:

i think u may be over training a tad, i agree with takin a few days break every so often. But i do think u are overtraining ur shoulders and triceps. Due to doin your arms day with the chest and then doing shoulders the next day.
