over head extensions

When i do them i use a 70 lbs dumbell so i can reach failure at like the 7th rep. But every time i do them i get this horrible pain in the back of my neck. it feels like im lifting too much weight. But im trying to bulk up and i want to stay in the 6-8 rep area. So should i just stop doing it and do a different exersize? Are skull crushers just as good?
 
Strangely enough, you might be putting your shoulders in a compromising position and your neck muscles are weak and having to pull.

But if something is hurting you, then discontinue using it and look for another alternative. Skull crushers are cool and so are close grip benching (14" hand width).
