Outer knee pain

Hello!
I am training for a 1/2 marathon and am up to 7 miles. I am following Hal Higdon's schedule and I found I love running. Yesterday was 7 miles, the most ever for me. Afterwards, and still a little this morning, the outer projections of my knees are in pain. :bncry:I took a bath, ibuprofen, and used vicks vapor rub and that helped a little. This morning is it much better but still there. I think it happened because I was slightly rolling my foot out due to blister pain. Please answer a few questions for me:
-Is this iliotibial band pain?
-What is the best way to heal it?
-What can I do to prevent it (are there strength training exercises I should do to keep it strong?)

Thanks!

You may be running on too hard a surface or running incorrectly. i have had this sometimes when i run badly where in had inner knee pain and sometimes at the side of the hips. sine doing track only ive had no impact injuries other than through poor running efficency.(still got huge work to do on this).
basically dont run on hard surfaces and keep good form always.
im guessing you know this so probably wasnt much help. sorry

Yeah i used to get the inner knee pain jkay describes every now and then. I think it was a change in the usual running style, as i used to have to alter it to try and avoid chafe.

I found it usually went away quite quickly, though that could be because i was running on the grass beside the road, so it wasnt actually road running.

Prevention: Look at the shoes that you are using and find whether they are the right ones for the surface. Also look at whether your running surface is good all along.

Any time you begin to compensate for an injury, you are much more likely to cause another injury. If you haven't had knee problems with your running, and then you began changing your running style and began landing on the outside of your foot to compensate for the blister, there is a good chance that this change in mechanics is what caused your knee discomfort.

Then again, this could be a coincidence, and the real reason could be because you just did your farthest distance yet. What was your previous furthest distance? Have you had a large jump in volume this week relative to last week?
