G'day,

I was just interested to see what peoples thoughts are about my diet and routine. I'm not 100% sure of my current success in weight loss as I feel I may have hit a plateau.

After looking into the idea of RMR this morning I've found that I should be taking in around 2600 calories per day to maintain my weight loss goal by Christmas time.

I wrote down my average menu for the day and it worked out as follows:

Yoghurt 191cal
Muesli Bar 116cal
Apple 101cal
Mandarin 100cal
2x ham and cheese toasted swiches 760cal
soup 162cal

This works out at around 1430cal for the day. I'm missing out obviously, but wanted to know if this would actually work my way or not.

I'm training every day, do a fair bit of weights also so my body is definitely putting some work in.

The 'soup' there often disappears in favour of something else for dinner, which would probably increase dramatically but maybe only bring the total up to around 2000.

What would be the suggestions there given that I am not very open minded in terms of foods and am quite picky on what I like to eat?

For healthy weight loss simply cut 15-20% off your Daily Maintenance Calories. This leaves you with approx 2000 calories. If you burn say 400 calories per day exercising (30 minute jog, 1 hour walk, 1 hour intense weightlifting) then your daily defecit would be around 1000 calories. This would theoretically lead to a 2lb a week weight loss.

1420 calories a day is not enough for you.

Not enough protein AT ALL, especially if you are lifting weights. Protein is essential for repairing and building muscle. And honestly, it isn't too healthy either. Not enough good fats either. Get rid of the ham and cheese toasties and go for something like a wholemeal roll with salad, or grilled meat and vegies???

Why don't you want to try new foods? You probably WONT succeed with such a lack of protein. TRY to be more open minded, there are soooo many yummy healthy foods out there that you could try!

Sorry, I should mention that I do consume 60g of protein throughout a day usually by shakes!

Perhaps not the most I need, but it's something!

yea, i think austin_88 was right on there....i'm wondering too about the ham and cheese...is this reg. ham and cheese or the fat free versions???

Ham and cheese would be the light options, for sure!

Last week I was on the tuna and cheese wraps, but I lack originality and don't like spending too much money!

oh man, tuna w/ ff mayo and some diced celery and /or diced red onion is killer on a wrap...minus the cheese...oh and you can throw some lettuce down before you add the tuna also.

Dont automatically go for the light versions or the fat free versions of product thinking it's healthier -it's not always... they take the fat out and they're adding something in to replace the flavor- generally it's sugar... Fat is not your enemy... your body needs fat to live...

read labels... read ingredients and just use common sense...

once a week you can grill up a bunch of chicken breasts for cheap - and store 'em in the fridge in plastic baggies... 20 minutes worth of effort and you've got days worth of unprocessed healthier foods

I kinda like that idea.

Being a bachelor and living quite a distance away from my mother means I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the whole food side of life, hah!
