I posted in the Club forum a thread called The Zero Sugar Club. Basically that is where I intend to post a log of my daily weight and what I ate that day.
I have a goal of losing 30 pounds by April 1, 2018. I think the hardest thing about this is just making choices. When I get real busy I tend to not make good food choices...which is one reason I gained 30 lbs.

I know for some of you here 30 lbs doesn't seem to be a lot....but to me it is...I'm sick of it. I just am not going to be fat anymore! I didn't gain it all in a day...and I won't lose it all in a day...I know that..I'm just at a point where I have to do something!

My Master in Taekwondo told me that if a plan isn't written down...it really isn't a plan. He was very correct. So, that is one reason I joined this forum...to articulate a written plan...where I can get other peoples input.
Feel free to join me on my Zero Sugar Adventure....I'm pretty excited about it actually.
And...I'm going to start going to the gym...I have a membership with a good one...I just stopped going awhile back. And stretching! Stretching is so good for you. Yeah, I'm excited. I made a decision! And I'm going to live it!

Hey OneEyedJack and welcome to the diaries! I rarely stray from the diary section of this forum but I´d be interested to see your progress here. Cutting out (refined or hidden) sugar sounds like a great idea for anyone. Losing 30 pounds and keeping it off is hard work and you definitely deserve support for it.
Best of luck, LaMa.

I mostly stay in the diary section too but am happy to support you & follow your progress in this diary. Welcome to our little part of the world :)

Thank you all! So much!
Sitting here drinking Coffee. No sugar, no cream. Black as the night behind my window. Sun comes up soon and I have a big day. Taking my wife, my 20 year old daughter and one of her friends to see the Mavs play the Lakers....downtown Dallas!
This is going to be a hard day I think...eating wise...but everyone in my family knows what I am doing and they are supportive...woke up early because my Lab had a seizure. She sleeps in a kennel right beside the bed on my side. Couldn't go back to sleep so...one of those days. But it is all going to work out just fine!

My sister in law is in town and she likes to eat fruit...so, she stocked the fridge with fruit...grapefruit, oranges, canaloupe, pineapple, all cut and ready to eat so....gonna go make a breakfast with some of that. I think an omelet maybe a bit later before we go to the game...a big omelet!

So, I downloaded a fitness app...thanks Cory...it is a bit of work but I am creating as I go a list of foods that I eat along with their caloric value, etc.
I had a bowl of fruit for breakfast. It wasn't as fast as pouring a bowl of cereal...but it was filling and I only consumed 162 calories.
The hardest part was doing the inputs on the app. In the fridge is a huge container of sliced grapefruit, already peeled mangos...the whole thing took like 3 minutes to create.

Just had a two egg omelet...just egg....plain. Tasty enough!
I rethought my 8 hour eating window and have decided on 12 instead. Because if I start eating at 6am...I would be done at 2pm...don't think that is going to happen. So, keeping it realistic here as much as I can.
I had alot more energy this morning after the fruit. Usually I would just eat a large bowl of shredded wheat and that's it...until lunch...when I would usually eat a spicy chicken breast and a biscuit from PopEyes....$2.59....and a glass of water. Cheap lunch....but a lot of calories...like 750...and a lot of unnecessary fat.

My plan is to go to Whole Foods for lunch....during the week...get a piece of Salmon or baked chicken....but as soon as it warms up...start grilling a lot of stuff. I like grilling. Chicken, salmon, ribs, whatever. Cut into portions....freeze it...put it in my Yeti in the morning and I'm ready for the day.

Another way of having fresh fruit in the morning is to add a big dollop of natural low-fat yoghurt. I use My Fitness Pal & have recipes saved of things I eat regularly so that I don't need to constantly add each item I have every time. The longer you use it the easier it gets. Hope your team wins!

You are so right Lamaria...that's why I had an omelet soon after.
Thanks Cate. The Mavs lost in overtime..good game and fun day out though. Didn't eat anything for lunch...Hot dogs were 6 dollars and....NO!

Had tuna and eggs for dinner.
Hadn't plan to do it this way but as it turned out...I only consumed 605 calories today. Not enough...I know, but...it is what it is for today. My allotted time for eating has expired. I am seeing that as I input more and more foods...evetually, the counter will be filled with everything I eat...and yes...it should be much easier.

I love yogurt. I'll think about that...my only concern is that it has sugar in it...and it is a dairy product which I am also avoiding.
But I have also been reading about discretionary calories. Which...is going to be an important part of my diet, because....I kind of like to smoke an occasional cigar...and that is always accompanied by a certain amount of alcohol....which is actually neither sugar nor dairy...heh, heh. But from what I've read...hell, it might as well be pure sugar. So, there's that. I don't know. Hadn't really considered yogurt...but I will!

A good natural yogurt won´t have sugar added (I don´t think you can even buy pre-sweetened natural sugar here in Austria; it sounds like an abomination to me) and you obviously don´t restrict natural sugars (or you wouldn´t be eating fruit) so the yogurt suggestion seems a good one!

Ya! I have been reading alot about yogurt. Clinical Studies have shown that those who had yogurt as a daily part of their diets overall lost far more weight than those who did not. Plus a host of other benefits so....absolutely....adding yogurt to my list.

So I weigh 6 lbs less than I did yesterday! Ah, but don't be fooled...there is a reason for that! Some of it....a very small part...is due to actual reduction in fat...because I only consumed 605 calories yesterday. Plus a lot of walking up and down and all around at the American Airlines Center. I think though that most of that 'drop' in weight is a combination of things. If you just put all the food I normally consumed on an actual scale...probably the weight of that food itself is several pounds. Plus the exiting of digested food from my body, plus an increase in urination. I'm guessing that's most of it.

Nonetheless...it is good to see that scale going the opposite direction! I know some people say, the scale is not your friend...but I am going to weigh everyday anyway. I understand the mechanics of fat loss and muscle addition and the variables between food intake and fluid intake etc. Btw....just for information...A gallon of water weighs 8.4 lbs. Doing the math.... a cup of water...8 fluid oz weighs .523 lbs. Just a little over 1/2 a pound. So, depending on when you weigh yourself...a certain amount of that weight is going to be just fluid in your body. A certain amount is going to be undigested, and partially digested food in your intestines. Most of the weight is going to be bone and muscle mass. The human body contains around 5 quarts of blood. So right there is 10 lbs.

Your bone mass is relatively consistent, your muscle mass fluctuates a bit because we are always adding and losing muscle....so...yes...the scale is not your friend. Your weight is always going to fluctuate......the best judge of fat loss is over a period of time how you look in the mirror naked.

That´s only true if you have a "neutral" body image. Sadly, most people don´t. I do agree that when you don´t obsess about the scale it can be interesting to weigh every day just to get a feel of what your body is; both in general and on a day-to-day basis.

True. I wasn't taking that in to account but you are right.

I'm a little bit mad at myself...just a little...for being to lazy to go to the store this morning and get some yogurt to compliment my fruit for breakfast...but I have to go to the store later anyway...so...yeah, I guess it will have to wait till then..but I can eat yogurt anytime...not just on breakfast fruit.

Of course I want to loose weight...but I want to remain healthy and become healthier in the process. So, I am paying closer attention to the 'nutrition' part of my fitnessapp info. I am thinking about adding my shredded wheat and milk just for fibers sake. I think I will research a bit on some other maybe better sources of fiber.
I am pretty uninformed on the ins and outs of nutrition...so this is quite the learning experience for me there as well.

Yay! I´m always happy to see people take a healthy approach to all this. If only because weightloss caused by extreme dieting isn´t sustainable in the long run. But mostly because it´s easier to be happy when you´re healthy and well-nourished (as opposed to just fed) and I want folks to be happy :)

Thanks! It only takes a couple of minutes to google anything:
Flax seed
Blackberries
Navy Beans
unprocessed wheat bran
Just a few high fiber, low sugar awesome choices I found.

I live about 45 minutes from the closest Wholefood Store...but they have a great selection of fruits, meats, fish and everything else....so I think I'll be going there later today.
Cook a big old pot of Navy beans...and then freeze portions. Grill up some salmon and pork and chicken and freeze portions.
I am continuing to get excited about becoming healthier and thinner. But all of that only comes when you focus on it. So...like a lazer beam...I'm focusing on it. And....my gym is close to Whole Foods...so I think I'll go work out and stretch and get in the spa before I go to the store.

Since you are an informed yogurt person...and I know nothing...honestly, it's like buying carpet...I just get overwhelmed looking at all the choices...they all start to look the same after a while. So, could you recommend a certain brand or help me on that quest? I really appreciate your input into my life.

You may wish to qualify your units. A litre of water weighs 1 kilogram and fills a volume of a cube 10 cm a side. In other words, 1 cubic centimetre of water weighs one gram.

I can figure out what you're saying but it's just nasty so I can't fathom how you would say "just for information". How many ounces do you think there are in a gallon. It depends. It's either 128 or 160. And just to get right up anyone's nose, the size of the ounces and consequently their weights are themselves different depending on the type of gallon. Imperial or US.

I´m an SI units person, so much easier. I don´t really try to understand when people start with cups, miles, gallons and pounds :p Unless I´m trying to copy a recipe, then I´ll take the time to convert. About the yogurt: I live in Austria, so my brands won´t mean anything to you. Just look at the label and see if they´ve added anything to the milk beside yogurt cultures. Proper yogurt doesn´t need anything more.

okay, my bad....I wasn't even thinking in terms of metrics, which most of the world uses. So..I'll keep that in mind next time I throw out numbers like that. Thanks.
My point was that water weighs alot more than most people think and in relation to weighing often...it is a consideration.
