One handed benching

Since I don't really have a spotter (who can actually 'spot' me,) I've been trying one handed benches that way I can try to improve my strength, but also able to easily catch it if I start to fail. I found it helps my forearms and my shoulder a lot more than regular benching (because of the extra stability needed.) I was wondering if this is dangerous or if it will deteriorate my muscles (someone told me it could possibly do that.)

Edit: Couldn't really find anything on google or anything.

no spotter? how about normal dumbbell bench press instead...both hands.
if you get in trouble, drop the weights to the sides.

One handed benches?? Call me weird, but I'm not sure I've ever seen that done!!LOL

When I have no spotter, I do as Malkore had suggested...dumbbell bench presses....works for me!!

I've done single arm benching, just for fun. Yes, it is great for stability and whatnot. I've never been serious about it, though, so it's not like I was maxing, which I hope you're not doing, lol. I say do what you like, an no, it won't make your muscles deteriorate.

1arm DB bench is what i do. its a great exersice that will make your stability aswell as your core muscles fire ;)

One arm dumbell benching is great to do from time to time for those with experience. There is a method behind the madness so trainers do include this in a routine. Another idea is to use two dumbells but have a different amount of weight on them.

Well, they seem to be helping me quite a lot. I've upped my incline bench to 175 (2 reps) after just a week of doing it. So I think I'll add it to my regular workout. Ed: The thing is I've been stuck strength-wise, but this seems to have gotten me over that barrier.
