Omega's journey

Thanks for visiting my diary and supporting me.

Stacy
Reach those goals too!
Try fish cooked that way. I have just checked my spreadsheet. Out of the last 13 times I have had it - on 11 times the scales came down the next day. The times it went up it was just .4lb and .2lb so not much. I do it with salmon, trout, mackerel and tilapia. I hope that it works for you too!

My parents are fine thanks- all things considered. Certainly healthier than many of their age.

Now that you have a pedometer you can join Stacy and myself in pedometer buddies. It is great that you are getting better at a mile. It is much easier if you follow your own pace. I certainly built my stamina by increasing the distance - so give it a go and see how it works for you.

My husband has lost a little weight - only a few pounds as yet. He only started joining me with a walk at the end of September. He doesnt eat the same food as me as he has a liking for foods that I would not dream of allowing for myself. He is supportive about me doing what I am doing without necessarily wanting to join me in various aspects of it. He would consider any suggestion that he should do more as nagging. Also - even if he wanted to - he could not walk any major distances as he has suffered from gout since his twenties (genetic predisposition) and it has damaged joints in his toes, ankles and knees. When I walk with him I go slower - at his pace.

I would love you to lose weight at the same pace as me - or faster.

It is perfectly possible that you could lose weight at the pace that I have done with less exercise as I know that my PCOS works against me.

Take care
Love

Sunday 28/10/07

It drizzled all day – quite light but definitely there all morning – by afternoon it had progressed to rain “proper”.

The walking was a real nuisance because I have a particularly painful group of blisters between my toes on my right foot. I often develop blisters which I burst and bandage up but these are proving more difficult to deal with. Hence a lower than normal stepcount for the day. I forced myself to do so much walking – but then took it easy in the house.

Entered Saturday’s steps into the Oregon Trail on America on the Move. Underwhelmed by the message:

Since beginning your trail on October 17, you have taken a total of 348,478 steps. Your current daily average step count is 31,679 per day. You have completed your trail!

General Data:

Morning walk = 6.3 miles (husband joined me on first 0.7 miles to shop then he turned round while I continued).
Round the block = 4 times (on two laps my husband came too)
Extra exercises = none
Weight = 13st 7.2lbs (i.e. 189.2 pounds)
Steps = 27,525
Distance = 10.20 miles
Remembered to take normal vitamin / supplements
Continued my creaming regime

Food / Drink:

1 banana
3 weetabix, 1 heaped teaspoon of sweetener (a level teaspoon is apparently 1.9 calories) and the (large) bowl topped up with skimmed milk.
1 grapefruit juice
1 roast chicken breast with some skin, 5 new potatoes, carrots, broccoli, gravy
2 large handfuls of raisins
2 litres of cold water
some diet cola

I have the same feeling - -i really want dancing boys or a parade or fanfare of some sort... you can print out a certificate though for your accomplishment and frame it :)

Mal

I like your dancing boys (or indeed young men) or parade or fanfare idea. Maybe all three!!!

I didnt even print out a certificate. I will go back and see about that.

It wouldnt harm them to flash up some sort of message. You get a bigger splurge with a deck of cards flying everywhere when you finish a game of patience!!!

the certificate is somewhere on the right side of the screen toward the bottom -it's not totally obvious and i'm not sure it even says certificate but it's there

Be PROUD Margaret! ;)

I'm sooooo sorry to hear of the blisters!

Bless yer sweet heart! :hug2:

I hope they heal very quickly for ya.

Hope yer Monday has been Goal Reaching. :D

Hi Stacy

If truth be told I have blisters most days - I suppose it is only to be expected with the miles that I walk. Generally if I burst the blister each day and bandage with a cotton wool pad and a reel of elastoplast I can walk ok. The pain is quite bearable - see what 20 years of electrolysis does for your pain thresholds!!!

These blisters are the oddest ones that I have had. They have turned up between the toes and were impossible for me to sort out for myself - I tried. In the end I got my hubby to take the needle to them. That sorted them out for this morning - but they came back this afternoon. I am going to get him to sort them out again tonight.

As far as goal reaching goes I am pretty pleased with today. My weight has hit a new low - and it is another of my many milestones. Today was the first time under thirteen and a half stones. OK - it isnt under by much and it may drift back up - but it is enough to please me. It means that I have lost over half a stone since the reunion a couple of weeks ago. Despite the blisters I have got to over 30,000 steps. Last night I found a pair of trousers among some of my old clothes that fit me just fine.

All in all things are generally going pretty well.

I hope that things are goal reaching for you too.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Woo Hoo:jump::jump::jump: You deserve to celebrate! Way to break that barrier.

Glad you are having such a great day, wish I had some words of wisdom for those blisters of your. OUCH!

Talk to ya later

Thanks Mal. They certainly dont make it user friendly.
there's another one I found that's a little clunky but it takes a little longer to complete -

it's a transamerica trip that you can challenge yourself to walk a certain amount of miles a week...

Thanks Mal.
It is the kind of thing that I like - simple things please simple minds.
In reality I aim to have a stepcount of at least 30,000 steps a day most days.

The weather was ok.

Husband did a great job with blisters so the walking in the morning and keep fit class went without real problem.

Hi Stacy and Kim

I must agree with you ladies - I am very lucky with my choice of husband. :hurray: It goes to prove what I have always said about getting them young and training them up.... We have been together since he was just 22.

It appears that both you ladies have chosen equally wisely.:hurray:

I really appreciate all your support. It means such a lot to me.

I hope that Tuesday is going well for you.

Margaret,

Congrats on your latest milestone!!!

You are just cruising along in your journey! I know you work very hard and I know the results must be SO satisfying!

I'm so much in awe of you and I'm so happy for you. It won't be long before you reach your final goal. I'm going to be trailing right behind you. So, look out, here I come!!

It is good to have such a supportive hubby. Mine is very supportive, but I bet he wouldn't pop a blister for me...lol....Yours is a keeper. ;)

Congrats again, and I'll stop by again soon.

Anne

So Omega, please enlighten me a bit please. You've lost about 100 lbs since February?

AMAZING!!!!!!! If this is true, you are truly my new hero. I have read some of your posts and it looks like you get an insane amount of exercise in every day.

How many calories do you get?

Do you still use the bio-oil? Does it work? I JUST got back from CVS pharamacy here in California, looking for it because I want my stretch marks to at least fade away a little bit. But they didn't have any in. I guess I'll have to look for it online.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really inspired. :)

Anyway. Congratulations on all your success and your latest victories!!! :)

Hi Anne

Thanks for your congratulations. This project is hard work but I have to admit that the results are very satisfying.

Now that you have got going - there is every chance that you will overtake me - but that would be fine by me. Whoever is ahead - it is nice to have company along the way - and we all want to head in the same direction.

I could never deny how lucky I am with my hubby. He is truly unique.

Take care

Hi Loseforreal

Thank you for your kind comments.

Yes - it is true that I started my project in late February. I am not sure what date - but it was in the last week of February. I did not announce anything even to my husband about it - I just planned the meals with the concept of trying to be careful in mind, went out on a little walk in the daytime when he was at work and everytime he brought me in a sweet or chocolate biscuit - I said nothing and just put it in a drawer. At first when asked I said - "I will have it later". I had been on so many failed diets in the past and each time ended up heavier than before - so when the 1996 Weight Watchers attempt had the same result I swore never to diet again and to be content to try and maintain my size.

I did all that I could to ignore my size - I very rarely allowed photos to be taken and never weighed myself.

The first time that I weighed myself was 14th March when I weighed 20 st 7 lbs. I only know what my start weight was is because my doctor told me what I had weighed when she saw me in November last year. Since I believe that it is impossible that I will have lost weight over Christmas and a February trip to Wales where the hotel served huge meals - I have happily taken the November 21 stone weight as my start weight. It is perfectly possible that I may have actually been a few pounds heavier in late February.

I do weigh myself every day - and for quite a while I lost about a stone a month (14 pounds). This has reduced a little over the last couple of months.

I have a project spreadsheet where I record all the influencing factors that I can think of - what exercise I do, what I eat, what I weigh - and as soon as I detect a slow-down I try to take some form of action - because I like to see ongoing results.

I started off walking only very small distances - but I did build it up to insane distances - but this did not happen over night. At first I was more than happy if I get say 2/3 of a mile walked. I increased as I was able so I can see from my spreadsheet that by 14th March (when I got methodical and started the spreadsheet) I did a walk that was 1.6 miles. I did not try to walk particularly fast - but was happy to simply get from A to B. As time got on I noticed that I had naturally speeded up. On 13th April I had got up to 3.3 miles, by the start of May I was on 4.3 miles.

When I got my pedometer it was brilliant - not only did you include the little bits around the house which all contribute to burning calories - but it meant that if I went on other shorter walks I could get the "reward" of seeing a quantitive value for it. I found that this encouraged me to do more.

For a while - every time I hit a plateau or my loss rate slowed down - I just added a little bit to the distance that I would try and walk in the day.

I have no idea how many calories I get. I find counting calories counter-productive to my attempts at dieting. I think that it is a very valuable tool that assists 99.9% of people to effectively lose weight - but I am the exception. The problem lies in my psychology. I eventually eat more calories than I am allowed for the day or week and then I feel a complete failure. I then eat everything in site and stop making all efforts. I have failed so many times at this point. If I am undecided as to whether I should eat something I check out how many calories are in it and that often helps me to decide - but generally I eat what I believe is a balanced diet (I get protein, fruit, vegetables, cereal and milk each day and some fat a couple of times a week) and I try to be moderate in my requirements whilst never getting hungry. I aim to drink 2 litres of water each day. I list in the diary everything that I have eaten in the day. I am generous with my portions so when I talk of a handfull - I mean a really big handfull plonked on a plate.

I do still use the bio-oil. I try and do two massages a day on my abdomen (but it is quite often just one) - this has always been my worst area - ever since I got big. I am just trying to encourage my skin to behave as well as possible. I think that the action of massage is possibly almost as useful as the bio-oil itself. I try and massage other bits of me too with oil or lotion once each day (thighs, boobs, upper arms, bum). Although I have some loose skin - I think that generally I am better than I deserve to be now that I am 2/3 of the size that I was. I still have a long way to go though and who can say how things turn out when some of the other rolls of fat go!! I also take vitamins designed to help my skin cope and the water is good for the skin too.

Feel free to ask me any questions that occur to you. I may not know the answer but am more than happy to help to the best of my ability.

With luck we can all inspire each other to reach our goals. Good luck with yours.

Take care
Best wishes
Margaret

Hi Freaksgurl
Thanks for visiting. I have just spotted that you popped by and supported me. It sneaked in between emails and I missed it.

You must think me terribly rude. I have spotted it now and really appreciate it.

The blisters are a lot better now - so all the good wishes clearly helped.

Take care
Love
Margaret
