Omega's journey

Thanks for visiting. Sorry that I have not been on the forum much this week.

Kimberly

Sorry for worrying you by not being on the forum much. I have been busy doing some research on something and you know how I get focused on some things.....

Accents are funny. I know that you have an American accent - but I keep reading the written word in the head with my own imaginary voice (I am not mimic and no good at other accents) - therefore everyone gets landed with the same nondescript accent that is my own.

I did really well managing to avoid the baklava and other honey treats when in Greece - less well with the saganaki cheese and pitaroudia. How anyone that knows to avoid cheese comes to the conclusion that eating huge slices of fried cheese will not do too much harm is open to debate. Take it from me that a weight gain seems inevitable. It almost makes the notion of chick-pea rissoles appear healthy.

It was kind of you to offer us a thanksgiving feast for November - but I think that it would be a bit soon for us to take another holiday. I certainly would like to visit America at some point as it is somewhere that we have never been and have acquired so many good friends via the forum.

Valerie
Sorry if you are upset to have acquired an English accent in my head. I cannot help being no good at accents. I need to add that my accent is nothing like the standard accent that is so often used on television to mimic someone from England.

Amber
Thanks for the welcome back.

Janice
I did enjoy my holiday. It was very strange fooling people that I have known for so long. These are not people that I have a vague acquaintance with - these are friends that we have attended/been invited to family events - funerals, baptisms, weddings etc. It was so strange to not be recognised by them - I even tested it by walking past them in the street and getting not a glimmer of recognition.

My weight has been sticking at about 135 pounds for the last few days - but I think that TOM may be keeping it a little on the high side. I have recently been visited by TOM and am hoping that I may see another fall in a few days time.

Gonnagetabs
I hope that you enjoyed your time away as much as I enjoyed my holiday in Greece. From a weight loss perspective I have lost a little ground - but we must remember that it is perfectly normal behaviour to gain a few pounds when on holiday.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Chickpea rissoles sound yummy..lol. Good job avoiding the baklava.

I think I know what you're researching--or at least the general idea. Feel free to pm me if you feel like talking about it.

I didn't think you'd accept the Thanksgiving dinner offer..lol. But I couldn't think of a better way to take a holiday and have tons of good food around to tempt you. :smilielol5:

If it makes you feel any better, you tend to have an American accent in my mind when I read your posts--even though I've heard yours many times. :D

Thanks for visiting.

Kimberly

Chickpea rissoles are basically a description of what pittaroudia is - and I love it. I thought that I was pretty restrained by only having pittaroudia twice in 18 days.

I suspect that you do have a general idea as to what I would be researching. You do know me pretty well by now.

Valerie

If I am going to get a weight fall - it will happen in a few days time. Part of me is hoping for it and another part of me thinks that it may be too optimistic after the holiday. We will wait and see.

Take care
Love
Margaret

You will surely be down in weight!

I ate a bit too much the past week and saw a shoot up that was beyond what I could have imagined! I didn't even binge or get drunk, which was puzzling to me, but I think it had to do with one too many meals on Friday, and a lack of long runs in general--yoga and bellydancing are great and tons of fun, but they don't burn calories like running and kickboxing and I think I didn't adjust my calorie intake accordingly. So it's back to tracking everything, which is fine.

Can you share a youtube link or something, with a clip from some sitcom to demonstrate someone speaking with your accent? That way I could HEAR it and APPLY it here ;)

I think you were very restrained with the pittaroudias..lol. I also think it's not unrealistic to expect the weight to start going down again once TOM gets outta Dodge. :D

Thanks for visiting.

Valerie and Kimberly

After a few reasonably steady days I got a slight weight fall today - so maybe this puts me onto the post TOM / post holiday place where I need to pick up from. Today's weight after long walk was 9st 7lbs wearing shorts / 9st 8 lbs wearing jeans. That is 133 pounds wearing shorts.

Valerie

Your wish is my command:

I actually think that this out-take is really funny and says something about the men from Newcastle too. Maybe that is why I married someone from the other end of the country!

My accent has been softened by living out of region for well over 20 years.

It is funny how the exercise that we do is reflected so immediately at the scales. I actually think that I want to eat a lot more than most people - and if I do not walk enough it is sure to be reflected at the scales.

Newcastle! One of our wineries winemakers, Tony Craig, is from Newcastle. He was an aspiring actor and showed me the picture on Newcastle beer, saying he walked across that bridge by the church everyday to go to acting school. He tried to be an actor in Hollywood but when that didn't work, he interned for David Bruce Winery, and now makes some delicious Pinot Noirs called "Sonnet." Haha, after Shakespeare of course. I'll listen to the video in a second, I just downloaded some Bar-Kays (Funk/Deep Soul) and it's AWESOME.....uuuuhhhhhhhhhgh gaaaaaaaaawwd :drooling: I :beating: Funk!

Wow that was short-but a funny outtake, haha! For a brief moment I thought it was part of the script but then I saw the chick laughing....Ok now I think I got your accent but probably not quite.......

Well, I must say, Newcastle is a very common beer in California bars, and as I prefer browns, stouts and porters, it is often the only tasty (to me, as I'm not that partial to lagers) beer available when I go out. I think it's delicious, but better on tap. I've had my share of bad batches, but overall, I LOVE Newcastle. Being in the wine business I understand temperature and storage conditions during importation all affect the taste.......

Marg, sorry I haven't been around much, honey, work is keeping me very, very busy!

I'm so glad you enjoyed your holiday without managing a massive weight gain. This is good news. Already, you're learning how to maintain your weight.

133 already huh? Wow. No wonder none of your friends recognized you!! That's a GIANT difference from where you came from. I bet you shocked all the greecian pants off of them, didn't you?

It's good to be visiting your journal again! You always have a way of motivating me!

I love Newcastle Ale, too. That is some good stuff. Too bad I can't drink any for a long time. :(

Congrats on the scale going down. :hurray: I predict it continuing on the same trend over the next couple of weeks. :)

Thanks for visiting and the words of encouragement everyone.

The local beer means something completely different to me.

Newcastle Brown Ale is (or certainly was) made by blue star breweries. When I was about 17 - our crowd used to go to discos at least twice a week at the Blue Star which was the staff social club associated with blue star breweries. If you turned up you could get people to sign you in - and it was a really cost effective night out. They used to sell alcohol at staff discount prices which were very cheap. I only once ever got caught for under-age drinking and it wasnt there - and it was within a couple of weeks of my 18th birthday anyway (they took my name but I never heard any more about it).

I cannot say that I ever particularly took to the brown ale - I tended to go more for the cider or lager and lime end of beer drinking. I do know that a lot of people make a big fuss about being served brown ale in a waterloo glass.

As soon as I got a taste for such things I incorporated stronger alcohol into my drinking. Therefore - why have cider when you could have cherry B and cider? Cointreau and baileys taste so much better than beer to me. I remember Rod saying to me once when we were young - "what do you want - a single, double, tripple?..." My obvious answer - "quadruple then". It was probably about time when I gave up drinking on most occasions.

Thanks Shannon. The truth is that it is probably nearer 9 pounds based on the way that the current weight is - what with the holiday gain. I keep hoping for it to come back down to my pre-holiday low weight currently on my ticker - but I probably should be moving my ticker up in a day or two.

Either way - when you have been where I have - a weight of 9st7 (133)which is 9 pounds away from my personal goal weight is nothing to worry about.

My pilates teacher (who was one of my keep fit teachers last year) was just saying to me yesterday that I would be fine to stop losing weight now. I know that my doctor and slimming club leader has already said much the same to me - so it is now really all down to personal taste and vanity.

I see that you are very very near your own goal weight - well done!

I can understand, because beer is bitter, but.......bleh! ;)

True that. Still, it's nice to keep conscious because there IS always a danger of re-gaining. Bodies seem to like filling up the empty fat cells--not to gross you out or anything, I just noticed on here that lots of people tend to gain weight when they get comfortable with their loss, myself included. Remember CYM? Or whatever her name was? She was really careful about her maintenance. It was actually amazing! Still, I hope you get to your goal--why not, right??? :D

I think you would be fine if you stopped losing right now. And remember, once you get the breast reduction, you'll lose at least 5lbs imo. Mine feel like they weigh 10lbs a piece now that I'm pregnant..lol.

If you were that big a drinker, you and I would've had quite a time in Korea. :biggrinjester:
