Off topic - but important

Ok i seriously know this isnt the place to write about this and this has nothing to do with weight training or whatever but i didnt know where to ask about this. i just want to know what women need to do in order to keep their vaginas from smelling bad. i've heard a lot of things..i heard that u shouldnt wash it with soap coz apparently it kills some bacteria which r necessary for the area to function properly and it may be the reason why it smells... well basically if i dont wash mine everyday with soap, sometimes i feel like it smells bad. i mean i cant smell it unless i touch myself and then smell my finger...and i didnt have this before. like lets say i go in the shower and i wash the area with soap realllyyy well, i come out, it will smell fine for like...half a day. i mean for half a day if i touch it and smell my finger it smells like nothing, its totally cool. but then it starts to smell weird..its not like super disgusting but its not nice...and i want it to go away! its really pissing me off... any suggestions? be my guest. help needed. sorry if the way i wrote is a little to detailed and like..i dunno...intimate... but whatever im just annoyed with this. i wana know if i should stop using soap and use just water or if i should buy like...vaginal soap or whatever.. i had seen in pharmacies that theres like special soap for down there...are they any good? please help. thanks.

Ok well I'm not sure if you are really serious or not, but I am going to assume that you are. The first thing that comes to mind is that you may have a yeast infecton or some other gyno problem going on. Anything that upsets your system can disturb your bodies pH enough that certain infections can creep up on you. You should go see your gyno and get checked out. It could even be as simple as the underwear you have that creates to much of a barrier traping bacteria and causes the problem. Jeeze I don't want to ask you to give me details on the forum about the whole thing, but if you have any other questions you can pm me. I really think it is either a yeast infection or something similar. Anyway feel free to ask me any questions and I will help in whatever way I can.

thanx

hey, thanx darling
im not sure if its a yeast infection.. actually it might just be cause of this whole soap thing. im going to stop doing what i do with soap for a few days and see what happens. actually something really f*cked up also happened..ive been like obsessed with washing it with soap for a few days and i did this so much that i had like really weird discharge for one whole day...it was like periods but it wasnt my period. it was like brownish..u know..the way periods r when theyre on their last day or first day..u know what i mean. just brownish. it was some discharge like that...i was like what the ****...i didnt really get it. it went away now i mean i dont have that discharge anymore..and i showered today without soap down there. i guess im going to see how things turn out tomorrow. im also planning on doing something about my diet. i usually eat healthily but im going to eat even more healthy now...im going to not eat red meat and just live off of chicken and vegs and fruits...i dont know id like to eat only veggies and fruits but then i dont know where id get my protein. i guess im going to see how things work.
anymore help would be really appreciated...people should just tell me everything they know. thanks.

If you are having smell and unusual discharge it is almost certainly an infection of some sort and you should see your gyno. It may not be a yeast infection, but some other sort of bacterial infection.

Especially if you have had any new "relationships" recently.

I would definately get it checked out. Better safe than sorry.

Ok, this is going to sound like a dumb question but I used to work at a Dr's office and it's more more common than you think.

Could there be a chance that you forgot to take out a tampon and it's still there? I'm thinking especially with the brownish discharge, it could be 'old' blood, those were the 'symptoms' that girls would complain of when we had that situation.

Also, like Jenn said it could be due to an infection and something as simple as changing the type of underwear you wear will solve it. Try wearing only 100% cotton, which allows the area to 'breathe' more. Synthetic fibers and those 'silky' underwear are not really practical for everyday wear, it keeps the area too moist which can trigger yeast infections...

(my two cents)

...

i havent done anything with a new partner so it cant be something like an std. thats out. and i am 100000% sure i didnt forget a tampon inside me...i mean im very careful when it comes to tampons cause i have like TSS phobia... i have no clue why that discharge happened. i wanna go to a gyno but truthfully ive never been to one and im kind of embaressed....

Don't be embaressed. That is what they are trained for, believe me they have heard and seen just about everything you can imagine. You are a patient and that is what they are there for. They can tell you exactly what is going on and if there is something wrong can help to fix the issue. It could be any number of things that it could be. What kind of odour is it? The discharge just sounds more like break through bleeding. How long have you been getting regular periods? Have you ever had a pap test done? Are you or have you been sexually active? Have you been tested since then for std's? Do you bath often? Do you scrub your bath tub before you run a bath? Are you or have you recently been on any antibiotics? What if anything has changed in your lifestyle recently or around the time you noticed the odour? Have you changed the way you dress, as in fabric types? Have you changed or started birth control pills? Wow ok start with those questions and we will go from there.

Densy, you're still a teen right? (I think I remember from previous posts that you're young). If you're too embarrased to go to a gyno, go see someone in your local Planned Parenthood Clinic (it may even be free for you).

Tell them that you'd like a check up and that you have concerns about possibly having an infection because you have had discomfort, unusual odor and unusual discharge.

Good luck...

ok well im 18 so i dont think there will be some discount for me...but that doesnt matter anyway. i dunno..i really dont know where to go either, i might ask a friend to help me. as for all the questions...lets see
what kind of odour? it's...i really cant find a word to describe it..its just not nice though..this is gonna sound really gross, but it kinds of the way males smell down there when they dont shower..like, the testicles i guess.
what is break through bleeding? i mean i had brown stuff for exactly one day and then it stopped, and it has nothing to do w periods coz it wasnt right after or right before my period. it was just out of no where...
ive been getting "regular" periods for..lets see..like 4 years i guess. but theyre not very regular, sometimes i get it once in every 40 days, sometimes it comes exactly after 28 days, sometimes around 30 sometimes around 35, but USUALLY around between 33-38 days. so its not all that regular at all.
whats a pap test? should i get it done? ive never had anything done though, so i guess i havent had that.
well if u mean promiscuous by sexually active...then...no i dont really engage in sexual activities with everyone that comes my way. and im pretty sure have no std's..cause i've always known the people really well before anything happened.
i dont have a bath in my house, i shower at least every second day though, usually everyday. but like if im lazy for some reason i can only go one day without...cause paris is really nasty and humid so people start to stink quickly.
nothings really changed in my lifestyle. i mean..i dont know. i still wear the same clothes...i dont take the pill and have never been on it.
actually i think the odour might have been there since forever but recently im just starting to not like it. i already took some advice from ppl, i dont use regular soap, i use like soap for that area...and wipes and everything..i dont know if its working though. i want like a pill which is gonna make it go away!
i really dont think i will be able to go to a gyno...i have no clue why, im like...i dont know i refuse to let some random person look between my legs.. if he doesnt have to, then id totaly go! but i dont want to expose myself in that way...i know im retarded but i dont find it in myself to do this.

densy,

You are getting alot of good advise. It only takes once to get an STD, many men can be carriers without symptoms. Having an STD is not detectable by "knowing" them well. The nicest, cleanest people get STD's. Brown discharge is usually old blood. Your problem could be a relatively easy to treat case of bacterial vaginosis, but you have to the doctor to diagnose and treat it. Every woman should have a baseline pap smear at the age of 18.

you wont let a trained professional to whome it is really no big deal check you out because you obviously have some sort of infection, but you'll write in increadible detail everything about your private parts to random people on the net. makes sense. :D

I couldn't agree more with you!

Densy, go to a doctor!! You should have been getting pap tests done from the time you started your periods. But hey its your health and if you don't value it then there is nothing anyone can say that will change your mind. Your call.

Well, I googled it for you so here's a link to look at more of your symptoms
Also try washing with an unscented vaginal soap instead of regular soap in the future after you get the infection cleared up. I agree with the rest of the ppl, go see a doctor. The infection will not go away on its on and you will feel so much better (mentally) once u get it taken care of.

ok i realised its not even a vaginal smell or anything, the part which smells is different. im attaching a drawing of the female genitals, and i pointed at the part where the smell is with red arrows.. its like, u know thers the outer labia and then the inner one.. its between those too...u know theres like a little spac there between the two labias...thats where the smell is. so...any new ideas? i am going to ask a friend about a gyno here..i do plan on going to one but not anytime soon cause im busy these days.

Could be a bacterial overgrowth - if that is the case, cut out all simple sugars from the diet and load up on probiotics to bring it back into balance. Orrrr, visit your friendly neibourhood doctor to cut out the speculation.

lol
friendly neighbourhood doctor.. hahaha
i might soon
also because i want to go on the pill cause i need to, to regulate my periods and to just not worry about becoming pregnant

Densy, I don't mean any disrespect by this. It could be something as simple as a hygene problem. People are all different and it could be that you sweat more (in that area) therefore you need to wash more often.

You should try showering *every day*. You don't have to wash your hair everyday, it's actually good to go a day without washing it--different topic but you see what I'm saying.

Also, personal question but, how groomed are you down there? I know I personally feel cleaner when I don't have any so I usually shave everyday.

A lot of women benefit from going on birth control to regulate their period. I know from the other thread you have concerns about the side effects. The majority of the time the side effects are minimal. You are adding hormones to your body which will trigger changes in your body but like I said most are minimal if detectable at all. You really should talk to a doctor and find out all the pros and cons and make the decision that is right for you.

well for the past 2 weeks or so i have been showering everyday, not necessarily my hair but the rest of my body definitely everyday. so im not sure if its got to do with hygene. i dont have hair down there either, i dont shave cause then its like u have to shave everyday and its really annoying but i wax the whole thing on my own, so its the same thing. from someone else though, i had heard that its good to have some hair down there because the hair protects that area from getting dirty things into it which might cause the smell...so its really weird. i mean i dont know what to believe anymore, either u have to have hair or u have to have no hair at all...im just confused.
