I completely missed my goal in January. It was rather ambitious. 7 lbs!January was a hard month! I am trying to have a change of attitude in February.

Right now, I am so intent on losing weight that I get down when the weight just falls off ounce by little ounce. Instead of seeing the changes I've made, I'm seeing the pounds that aren't going anywhere.

I've stuck with this for a little over two months and 11 lbs is nothing to be blue about!

Some goals for February -
  • Bring up my % of days on the treadmill
  • To keep up with sparkpeople
  • To weigh myself only once a week
  • To be more active in other peoples journals

Reasons to Lose Weight
  • Be healthy
  • To have energy
  • Be a good example for my daughter
  • To have a healthy pregnancy (in the future)
  • To be able to shop anywhere not just plus size
  • To fit into all my pre-baby clothes again
  • To feel sexy
  • To be confident
  • Family pictures are coming
  • To be a good example for other unhealthy family members

My husband has lost 9 pounds since January 8, 2006!

Yum! I checked out that recipe from Qjay's diary and I'm trying it out.

I thought you were joking about having a new journal for February and was looking up and down my subscription list trying to find you!! LOL! You can't hide from me that easy.

Do you think you have made some emotional progress as well as losing weight? You always sounded determined to me but now you sound more comfortable. Anyway, another good month coming up. :)

I like your fancy heading thingies too.

New thread... Well, I suppose if you're going to go by months, then you should do it right!

I'm still determined but I've just had these little tiny losses. Fractions of pounds and it's kind of killed my enthusiasm. I am still doing the treadmill and sparkpeople. I am certainly not giving up. I just realized this is a marathon not a sprint. I am going to keep steady and the weight will come off. . .even if slowly.

And the fancy heading thing . . I like to make my thread stand out so I can find it  And I copied that one from another post on a freebie board I visit.

Well, I've seen it done both ways on here. I see some people with the novel sized journals. I can see how both would be encouraging. I like the fresh start off a new month. I can put January behind me, but I still have my #s to compare.

I hope it doesn't cause trouble . . .I didn't even think about the thread subscribing.

Welcome to your new diary Joni :)

Here's to a kicking good start for February!!

We'll figure it out. If you are REALLY concerned, just go into your January thread and put in a link to your February thread :D
I'd recommend editing your final post to do it, or else making a new one and asking people to come here to talk.

I just did the Biggest Loser workout. I need a change from the treadmill. I am going to try out the 6 week plan and see how it goes.

I had trouble with alot of the squatting. My knees crackle and get sore. I kept moving and modified the movement like ole' Bob said.

I'm pretty excited to have an option. I can do the treadmill or the workout or both.

My knees have been inproving as I do more exercises and use my legs more often. I know you don't have a leg press machine in your home, but if you get a chance to use one, you definitely should; it is making a world of difference for me.

Ya options help make exercising a litle easier...I myself like variety...helps me stay focused and such, I also bought an Elliptical for super cheap off of Craigs List and I love it...so if I need to get a good quick work out in I use that...but I also have lots of videos and dvds I like to ise as well...Have agood day!!! Glad to hear you are workign out and enjoying and doing it regardless of...whatever, lol...:):):)

Today went really well food wise. I stayed within all of my ranges and am pretty happy with it!

I am going to do the Biggest Loser workout just to get some exercise in. It's already 8, but I just need to get it in today!

Tomorrow is a busy day. I am working 6am to 11am . .then we are taking my parents to look at our future house. . then we are going to my inlaw for dinner. Exercising and eating exceptionally well probably won't be happening.

I've read several people say that if you average your calories for the week, one bad day doesn't hurt too bad.

I expect tomorrow to be a poor day for food and exercise, but Sunday I should be right back on track.

Husband is going to Biggest Loser with me tonight!! Yay!

I also ordered Walk Off the Pounds from Blockbuster. There's a thread on this forum of exercise dvds to try and that was one of them. Pretty excited for it to get here!

Oohh...It sounds like a good day :D
And I do the averaging thing too, it helps to see how the numbers balance out over the week!

There's a pretty cool website that describes how to keep a "running average" which is described in a pretty complex process there, but it basically involves just adding up your last x number of days (say 5) and then dividing the total by that number (5, for example).
So if you weighed 20 lbs on Monday, 22 on Tuesday, 19 on Wednesday, 22 on Thurday, 21 on Friday, 23 on Saturday, and 19 on Sunday, you would have the following weights on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday:
Friday: 20.8 = (20+22+19+22+21)/5 = 104/5
Saturday: 21.4 = (22+19+22+21+23)/5 = 107/5
Sunday: 20.8 = (19+22+21+23+19)/5 = 104/5

It basically helps eliminate water weight from the equation and gives you a better "true weight", hopefully easing back some of the stress of fluctuating numbers.
Anyhoo, give it a try, and you can weigh daily, without getting nearly as upset, because you'll know it is just water weight, or if you have a big loss one day, it will help you from thinking of any water retained the next day as "gaining it back."
Another thing that can help: Weigh yourself three times, a couple of minutes apart, and average those for your weight for the day.

I hope you enjoyed the math lesson! It's about the most valuable thing I retained from my Statistics class :p

Yesterday was really fun and crazy busy. We left the house at 5am and didn't get home until 10pm.

The food was delicious and fattening. Still, I figured it was less than I used to eat and it was one poor day out of 7.

It also didn't leave time for exercising.

My mom has last about 16lbs in two or three weeks. It sounds great, but she told me what she was eating and it really didn't sound like much. She isn't starving herself, but I don't think she'll ever be able to live on it. I reminded her that whatever diet she did it needed to be something she could maintain.

I was feeling a little blue about my 11/12 lbs in 2 1/2 months. .but really I can maintain this. I eat plenty and for the most part I keep the calories and fat down. I'm eating yummy food and I'm able to eat the food I like. Even the fattening stuff fits into sparkpeople if you account for it and balance the rest of your day out.

Anyways, I'm back on it today. I'm not going to get down about small losses. I'd rather lose it slowly and learn to maintain it. :)

Go Colts!!

Lots of good things to read about in this February journal! Calm averaging. New ways to exercise sounds just the thing. Glad to hear you're doing so well.

I do agree with you about your mum. I also used to feel like my slow loss didn't look as good as others I saw, but bit by bit it has turned into a number that looks a bit more significant, and I love knowing that the food makes me happy and that I can keep going.
