27 March 2007- Food & Exercise Journal

Food Journal:

Breakfast: Ham Sandwice (1 slice of ham, two slices of bread, one slice of cheese, a pea size amount of mustard, and a pea size amount of mayonaise).

Lunch: A Ranch Salad (included lettuce, carrots, chicken, cheese, bacon bits, egg, and olives). I ate about half of it. I didn't eat the olives or the cheese, and only ate about half the bacon bits.

Snacks: 2 McDonald's Oatmeal cookies. I didn't plan on eating this but a student of mine (I'm a tutor at a university) brought them for me and I found it rude to reject them. Now I wish I'd eaten only one, if any. Oh well... ;) + 3 candy cups.

Beverages: 1 cup of diet soda in the morning; 1 bottle of water for lunch.

Dinner: er...a beef sandwich with pickles, lettuce, tomato.

Exercise:
3 hours of walking (21 laps. 3 running 18 fast-walking)

Inspirational Picture of the Day:

Comment: I hope I can someday fit into my current pants like this. Right now I'm wearing last years "fat pants" and they are fitting tight!

Today's Thoughts
As I was sitting in the hall eating my salad, I thought to myself, "Why in the world was I complaining about being overweight when I was 130-140lbs? I was crazy. Now weighing about 40lbs more, I feel like an idiot. Plus, I've realized that I don't have a clue about losing weight. Eat less, work more. That's the simplest solution. It is, of course, so much harder than it seems.

Plus, there are SO many temptations everywhere. At the university I have my students constantly bringing me snacks. At home, my sister is always eating junk food and my parents offer to buy me junk food (chips, ice cream, donuts, pizza, or burgers). And I find myself saying "No," at first but then going back and hunting the food down and then eating it! Grr... Just this weekend, I had a burger on Friday, Saturday, *and* Sunday! Absolutely incredible! And, I ate 2 kingsize snickers on Saturday! This is SO unlike me. I don't know why I'm binging so much. And my father is my worst supplier. He keeps on filling the house with junk food and even when I tell him to stop, he continues to do it. He loves sweets and well, its his house and he's gonna do what he wants, you know?

Comment: Now that must feel good! :D :p

Today's Thoughts
I ended up walking (mostly) 3+ hours yesterday and it felt pretty good. The only thing is that my feet were really hurting so I think that today, I'll need to put bandages on my toes or something. Also, I may need to go to the store to buy better shoes. Mine hardly have cushion... :( Imagine walking miles and miles on bad shoes?

As far as food is concerned, I don't think I'm doing that good. I have a lot of temptations at home... and I try to tell myself that I'm stronger, but I know that eventually I may eat something that is bad for me just because it's there. I guess to solve this problem, I need to make sure that I fill myself with healthy foods throughout the day so that I am not starved or compelled to eat something around me just because it's there.

MORE: I love my campus; it's so beautiful. I'm thinking of maybe walking a couple of days here. Perhaps on Friday's...the only thing is that it's awfully hot, so if I do walk here, then I'd have to do it in the evening or early morning. Since I work in the morning, the evening's are my only option. We'll see....

Hi!

yeah temptation is a tough one sometimes. i guess i have it easier because i live alone. Make sure to have plenty of healthy alternatives on hand. I have come to love strawberries, apples, bananas as opposed to candy if you havea sweet tooth. try out some protein bars, dont let the label fool you. it may have a lot of calories but most of the time (check first of course) a lot of it is from Fiber and mostly protein, which makes you feel full longer. That hay have helped in the case of the king size snickers.

Another big thing is smoothies! yum... i make mine with protein powder, strawberries, bananas, taste sweet and good for ya!

Right. I need to go to the grocery store later today to buy some more fruits, and maybe some oatmeal. What kind of healthy foods do you recommend?

I think all of us here on this forum go through the same temptations as you and you're taking the first step in realizing that it's bad and trying to change. I know how hard it is to have all that temptation around the house, but instead of looking at it all the time, can you get your own supply of healthy foods? I love Sweets, candy, anything and if it's around, I'll eat it. So instead, I don't buy it and choose fruit as my sugar source. Apples, grapes, mangos, cantalope, anything and now I'd rather have that than the snickers bar.

We can't change other people's habits, but we can change ours and adjust to theirs. If you're craving for a snickers bar, by the bite size ones and give it to your self as a little treat at the end of the day. Limit only 3 and you'll find that after 20-30 secs the craving is gone. If it's still there, take some fruit. As for the salty stuff, I've replaced them with nuts and it kills the craving within seconds.

I hope this helps! BTW I love your diary title...very cute!

foods wise... I stick to the fresh stuff. boneless skinless chicken breasts, pork chops, salmon, tilapia, tuna (canned is ok) red meat (on occasion), turkey potatos, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, bell peppers, whole grain rolls, bananas, apples, strawberries, blue berries.

protein bars,
protein shakes

i stay away from...
boxed instant foods,
processed frozen foods
i try to stay away from canned goods, but some stuff is ok, just watch sodium.

baby carrots are very nice... when ever im hungry i'll grub a few and it holds me over for quite a while.

That's hilarious! Over the weekend I was buying clothes for an interview I was about to go on, and I looked at the jeans section and I found a pair in my old size and I thought, "Can I human really fit into these small things?" It's so strange how your p.o.v can change so quickly. And it's really true about how you never quite see yourself the way others see you. I spent years and years telling myself that the people who told me that I had a "nice body" or that I was "thin" were crazy. Now, I see people that weight 130-140lbs and realize that although they don't look like "sticks," they look healthy and thin.

Maybe this go round we will both appreciate our success more!:)
Ditto. Moreoever, I think I'm understanding my sister and mother more, both of whom weigh more than 200lbs. It's a lot tougher being overweight than you may think.

Question: Does anyone else find it very irritating when you are walking or running and your inner thighs constantly rub against each other?? OMG. That bothered me so much, and I don't remember that ever happening before.   I'm even embarrased to put that here, but oh well...

Acutally that's a very common occurance in runners - chaffing - so don't be embarrassed! I get them in my upper arms. You can try rubbing some aquaphor or body glide between your thighs before you run. I've used both when I go out and run and they work pretty well!

Update!

Update: Lost 1.5lbs! Woo. Not much, and probably mostly water but I'm still happy.

Also, I discovered that I can walk during work. I can sneak a break here and there, about 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the afternoon. ;)

29 March 2007- Food & Exercise Journal

Food Journal:TBA....

Breakfast: Ham and Egg Taco (1 large tortilla, with 1/2 cup of egg and ham)

Lunch: Subway Sandwich, BMT

Snacks: small cup of mixed fruits

Beverages: 1 bottle of water, diet coke

Dinner: Chicken Soup

Exercise:
20,000 Steps, this time at the gym.

Today's Thoughts
Exercising for 3 hours a day isn't as bad as I had originally thought it might be. I kind of feel I could even add another hour or do it twice a day. But, I don't want to push it, so for now I'm sticking to this routine.

Today will be a day of temptation. Even though its only Thursday, its like a Friday at my house, and that means going out, and *that* means eating fastfood. I can already hear my dad asking, "Anyone want pizza?" and him buying it regardless of what the answer is.

Then, I can also see my mother arriving from work late and getting ready to go out for the evening to do her daily errands and coming home with hamburgers or tacos or something.

Temptation. Temptation. Temptation.

I honestly feel like screaming. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

30 March 2007- Food & Exercise Journal

Food Journal:

Breakfast: 3 Chicken Strips

Lunch: BMT sandwich

Snacks: A cup of grapes, one banana, garden salsa chips from Subway (wheat variety)

Beverages: 1 bottle of tea, 1 bottle of water, a cup of raspberry tea,

Dinner: TBA....

Exercise:
16,000 steps + TBA (had a very busy day; went to the gym for only 2 hours because I got there late and they were already closing. Grr...). Oh well, I was going to give myself a "break day" and I guess today will be it since I didn't do all the steps I wanted to. ;)

Today's Thoughts
Something I've been doing at the gym is trying to think positive thoughts. I really helps out. I'll tell myself "I can lose weight. I can get healthy. I can exercise vigorously. etc." over and over and over. It keeps me VERY motivated. :D :D :D
