Not Losing Any Weight

I am been have lifting weights for the past 5 weeks but I am not losing any weight yet...but I can tell that I am toning up though. Is that normal?

What is the difference between Whey and Soy Protein?

is that all you ahve been doing, is just lifting weights if you truely want to lose "weight" you MUST do cardio. also if youve noticed that you have toned up it means that you've burned tons of fat and replaced it with muscle and the reason you havent lost weight is cause muscle weights way more tha fat. so throw in some cardio like 30-45 minutes 6 times a week, i usually do my cardio after my weight training because my bodies store of energy in the muscles (at a loss for the name) has been depleated and now the cardio will be all fat burning.

also you MUST have a clean diet, no junk food, pop, pretty much any fatty/food with tons of empty calories. and have 6 meals a day to keep your metabolism up, and drink tons of water i usually have about 10 to 15 liters of water a day.

whey protein is the best protein for after work outs because it is the easiest for your body to absorb and soy protein is more for vegitarians, though still very good for you.

whoa, 10 to 15 liters? Do you half to carry around a bucket to go in? :) i guess i need to drink way more water then what im drinking now. What do you do just fill up empty 2 liter bottles to measure it?

Note: muscle weighs more than fat. If you've been weight training, you're building muscle, which will make you gain weight. Try not to use the scale to measure your progress.

Men need at least 2 gallons of water per day (or approximately 8 litres), correct me if I'm wrong. If you're working-out, you'll need more than that. I have a Nalgene bottle which is 1 litre - I just keep track of how many I drink per day. I'm constantly re-filling it, and peeing.

this will sound crazy, but im pretty sure my nalgene bottle is the best thing that has ever happened to my kidneys. it is convenient and durable, and with its large opening, i will have downed a liter of water without even thinking about it. its great to take to the gym or work, as long as you have a bathroom nearby.

nalgenes are a god send i got one infront of me right now (empty of course it only lasts about 5 minutes infront of me) and i carry 2 on my bag that i fill up about 3 or 4 times at school. only problem like you said i pee so much but its so good for you. usually takes about an hour for the water to go through me... well thats when i have to pee after i drink 2 literes in like 2 minutes.

and by the way i went pee once and drank a liter while writing this post

also 2 gallons is 7.571 liters

omg I heart my Nalgene's. Do yall have the sipper lid? It's amazing - no more spills when you try to drink from it while driving or anything else! I put the bottle and the sipper-lid-thing in the dishwasher every night. My oldest Nalgene I've had for about 3 years now

If you don't have the sipper-lid-thing, they have them at EMS - a 3-pack is $8, and 1 single lid is $3 or 4

i have a narrow mouth that i use most for just that reason but my wide mouth is awsome cause you can put ice in it.

they are indestructable too im dropped mine so many times full onto concrete doesnt even phase it. ive had my for like 2 months only i dont know how i got on with out one. my brother has had his for over 6 years

If you want to kick your fat loss into a higher gear without worrying about muscle loss, then you need only 20 minutes of cardio 3 times a week. Instead of steady state cardio you need interval running and/or sprinting.

I would avoid soy as much as possible, it has been known to cause low sperm counts in men and act as a birth control in women. Whey is a far superior protein. Soy is usually (when bought) a very inferior product because it's easy to manufacture.

So, evolution, if I want to lose a little fat around the tummy, I can do 20 min of cardio 3 times a week and not worry about losing muscle? That's the only reason I do no cardio currently. I'm worried I'll lose hard earned muscle.

In all the studies I have read and in my experience is if fat burning is your ultimate goal at the moment, then you'll want to have 3 days of interval running. Anymore than 3 days and you'll start to run into burning muscle.
Here is what a sample would look like:
jog 30 sec
run 20 sec
jog 60 sec
run 30 sec
jog 90 sec
run 40 sec
jog 120 sec
run 50 sec
jog 150 sec
run 60 sec
jog 180 sec
run 70 sec
total=15 minutes

Another example, not as long as 15 minutes but is still effective-
week 1-60 second jog, 15 second run X6 three times a week.
week 2-60 sec jog, 15 sec run X7 three times a week
week 3-60 sec jog, 15 sec run X8 three times a week
and so on

Both would be very effective at burning fat considering all else is in check and help with fitness levels.

Im gonna go pick up a Nalgene bottle when I get a chance.

Spock, I drink a gallon a day, and stay well hydrated throughout the day.

Active women need a minimum of 3-4 litres (about 1 gallon).

It is annoying having to pee all the time, but it's important.
