Not feeling benches in my chest

I've never had bench press equipment before in my old gym (it was in my building), so I'm just getting started with it.

I'm starting off at 25 lb weights, so about 75 lbs with the bar. I can do about six reps but I have trouble keeping my arms stable and benching in a straight line. After a set, I don't feel any strain or that I've barely worked my chest.

Should I consider adding more weight? 25 lbs is still a challenge for me since I'm having trouble with my mechanics. Or should I narrow my grip?

Yea just stick with that weight and concentrate with form. Just because you dont feel as though youve worked yourself doesnt mean to say you haven't.

I felt like that when I first benched, I had trouble keeping the bar straight because laying on your back pushing something straight up in the air isn't a very natural movement.

Just keep at it at a lighter light until you have good control of the bar and make sure you're bring the bar down close to your chest and avoid copying the half rep kings that just bend their elbows a little to use heavier weights therefore never really targeting their pecs at all

Don't use a weight you can't handle, and concentrate on using proper form. If you're unsure what the proper form looks like, just search "bench press form" on youtube. There's no shortage of videos demonstrating it.

If you're new to bench press, don't be discouraged if you can't do as much as you think you should be able to. As your muscles strengthen and you get used to the motion you'll be able to start using more weight

I have the same issue, but when I bench i feel it hurting my shoulders. You'd think its because my shoulders are weak, but I am pressing 140lbs military press and only weigh 155, and thought that would be decent...
