I am desperate to lose 10kg. I am 42yrs old and 70.4kg now. 2 weeks ago I started a low calorie (800cal per day), no carb (which I love!), no sugar, no alcohol, no fun diet. I have been following it to the letter, and have not lost one gram :( Scales haven't moved, clothes still as tight as ever. So obviously it's getting incredibly hard to stay motivated. Question, do I stick at it in the hope the weightless will kick in soon? Or assume that I am one of these enigmas that has some evil force at work that won't let me lose weight? So depressing:(

if you consumed a normal amount of calories before that (around 2000 I'm guessing) and you have been 100% honest with only consuming 800 calories for 2 weeks EVERY day, then there is something wrong. There is no way that you wouldn't lose some weight. If I only did 800 calories for 3-4 days, I would lose at at least a kg. That said, I never recommend a low calorie diet. Eating the right amount of calories for your gender, size and age, but in healthy calories and add in exercise and you will be way better off long term (both in being healthy and ease of maintaining the weight off)

I think there is no reason to worry about. Diets don't work like magic, give it time. Even if you don't see any results on the outside I'm pretty sure that you are getting better on the inside first. So give a chance to your external organs to feel better first, after that I'm sure that you'll meet your goal, just stay motivated and consistent. (this applies if everything you described is true).

Good news, if the scale hasnt moved, that means you havent gained any weight, which means you are at the beginning stages of doing something right. In my opinion, you should set short term goals. For instance, you say that you want to lose 22lbs. Dont try to lose it all at once. Aim for losing 1-3lbs a week. If you go about it this way, you wont be as hard on yourself. Hope this helps.

Thanks. So I've stayed with the low calorie plan and have lost 1kg in 3 weeks although today I have gained 400g. Yesterday I ate a bowl of special k for breakfast with some nuts, a handful of shredded chicken for lunch, handful of almonds for dinner and 2litres of water throughout the day. I just don't know how I'm not losing weight. Or how I've put back on 400gms this morning. I've been reading that maybe my body has gone into starvation mode - contestants on survivor must surely be in worse starvation mode than me and their weight falls off!! One thing to note I am not hungry at all.

I think you need to put away the scale for awhile. Stressing out about 400gms is not healthy. Your body will lose or gain 1% of your body weight / day based on many things, including water retained and calories dropped in the toilet.

I firmly believe that getting in shape should be a lifestyle. A combination of nutrition, exercise, rest and relationships. Coaching adds the "accountability" which is important. We can help.

I totally agree with Stanley. If you want to lose weight for the long term, there is no other way to accomplish this than by changing your lifestyle. You don't lose weight (at least not for the long term) by torturing yourself for some time, you need to change your lifestyle from an unhealthy on to a healthy one, and in such a way that you actually enjoy living healthily. I can also recommend coaching, either professional coaching (if you can afford it) or by staying in touch with a community such as this one. I learn a lot from people here and it helps me to stay stay on track. We can celebrate your victories together, and when you encounter difficulties we can solve the issue together.

800 cal per day is too low. Here is a good starting point for you

Base Plan

1. Eat 3-4 Meals Per Day as outlined in this graphic
precision_nutrition_calorie_control_guide_web.png

2. Ensure that the food in those 3-4 meals is Local/Organic/Grass-Fed/non processed

3. Drink at least half your body weight in oz , of water per day

4. Sleep 8hours per night in bed no later than 10:30pm

5. Workout 3-4 days per week following a well designed strength and conditioning program

Let me know if you have any questions
