No more muffin top (or muffins!)

Another year, another thread. I have abjectly failed to keep the weight off that I lost in 2010 and I think this year has to be the year that things change for good. On New Year's Day I weighed in at 222lbs - my heaviest since my initial weight loss where I got from 240lbs down to 175lbs. I KNOW I can do it. I KNOW what needs to be done. I just have to DO IT.

It's been a difficult year - not an easy time at work and my 9 year old daughter has been in and out of hospital so I just haven't focused on myself up til now.

The good news is, since 1st Jan, I've lost 7lbs. Yep that's right. 8 days, 7lbs. Feeling good. Still not looking great in work clothes, still squeezing to size 18 (uk) trousers when I want to be getting my size 16 suits out again (and the size 14s eventually!!). That muffin top / unbelievable roll over my trousers HAS TO GO!

So it's been intermittant fasting for me - one day on. one day off. Trying to keep to 500 cals on the fast days (I've been 800 or 1000 on a couple of them, but given people lose weight doing 2 fast days a week, I figure this is still a victory). On the off days, I haven't been eating madly - perhaps having a homemade vegetable juice for breakfast (apple, carrot, celery, spinach and mint...strangely enough...YUM), steering clear of mixing carbs and protein so keeping my blood sugar levels low (kind of a low GI approach) and avoiding as much processed, sugar-loaded rubbish food as I can. I reakon on "off-fast" days, I am still probably only hitting 1700-1800 cals at the most. Oh and no caffine.

So far I feel much healthier - less spotty, more alert, sleeping better. Got the room for a bit of a chocolate every few days without feeling guilty. Also starting running again. I went for my first run yesterday (which at 215lbs isn't an easy task!! More like first "stumble and wobble"!) - only managed to jog for 20 minutes (without stopping or getting a stitch though which I am proud of). I was very slow and only covered 1.6miles/2 km!!!! How laughable! Feeling the aches and pains today. I've signed up for a 10km run in May and am thinking of doing a 1/4 marathon in April (a marathon in a relay team of 4) - both of which should keep me focused on making time for running.

Big hugs to everyone and hope you are all doing well on your journeys!

Looks like you've had a great first week! 7lbs, wow!

Glad you are also feeling healthier. And a 20min jog is not bad for your first time in so long, good job!!

Great job! The 20 minute run is great! The more you do the easier it will get. Good on you for the race sign ups! I find that really motivating for me - I hope you do too.

JAY! HI! I've missed you! Sounds like you've got 2014 off to a brilliant start. Long may it continue! xox
