Niles - weight loss is not a piece of cake!

I am beginning to think I will survive after all. I have been so tired and have slept up to 18 hours a day!!!! (Some nap huh Mal!) I have not Eaten much and today I went for a walk. I felt so weak even after a few days of bed rest due to the flu. I stepped on the scale today and noticed I had not lost any weight, but didn't gain either.
So It´s back on the diet program again. I will take walks again and go swimming on Friday again. having an infection sure makes one feel weakened. But my strength will come back again.

Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhh

well!

Wednesday : Day of my weekly weigh-in:

Scale reading: 127 kg/ 279.3 pounds I have gained 1 pound this week AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH.

Starting weight 139,6 kg/ 307,12 pounds BMI 42,5 (08.22.2007)

Well at least I went back to work today and worked hard in my garden until sundown. So I am definitely getting better. Back on the horse again ...

I certainly do not post often

Wednesday again : Day of my weekly weigh-in:

Scale reading: 125.0 kg/ 275 pounds I have lost 2.0 kg / 4.3 pounds this week

Starting weight 139,6 kg/ 307,12 pounds BMI 42,5 (08.22.2007)

I have lost 14.6 kg / 32.2 pounds in 10 weeks :hurray:

Seemed like last week were I gained a pound was just one of those fluctuations that always happen during a weight loss phase.

And people are beginning to notice that I loose weight. They tell me they can see it in my face. Also the belt I bought 12 weeks ago is beginning to get too big!!!! There is no more holes!!! I am down 3 pant sizes (from 46 to 43) I really feel the weight loss. Walking is much easier and my posture is beginning to get better. I am still very sore in my arms and shoulders and can not quite exercise all I want. I still need to take it more slow. I will do that since it is not a race. I want both to loose weight and get in shape. It is going to be a lifetime challenge. Just beginning to exercise and eat this healthy has given me more energy. Even though I am still a bit tired after the flu like infection I got 2 weeks ago. I do not post as often as I used to ..perhaps because I do not sit so much in front of my computer as I used to ....

ups and downs

Yesterday I went swimming again and I felt so good! I can not remember the last time I felt so good physically. I take it slowly since I have weak shoulder muscles (Especially my rotator cuff muscles) that becomes sore and irritated if I don´t take it easy. It is a process getting in shape!!! I like the feel of my pants getting looser and looser and I have a better posture. Swimming is such good exercise to start with when one is totally out of shape.

I felt really good until the evening when I scratched my belly and discovered some small cracks on my skin in the belly area. They look like purple lines and I realized to my horror what they were. My skin was breaking into stretch marks. I never noticed or felt them before. Seems like loosing weight makes them more visible. I can´t say I'm surprised. I have seen other men with much less overweight get stretch marks in the belly area, but my skin have always seemed to be able to stretch and retract during my yo.yo up and down weight. Not any more.

Suddenly I did not feel good about my body any longer. I became so negative and felt ugly. Well I suppose all women who have been pregnant and gotten stretch marks know how this feels. Only I am a man. I sure hope the skin on my belly will retract and look better over time.

excellent that you're feelng good - way to go -that's awesome progress.. :)

I so wish I had a place that I could go swimming locally -you're lucky :) enjoy it

The swim stadion is only about half a mile from where I live ... And I think I am ready to begin swimming twice a week now. I certain feel up to it. I feel better and better every week.

This week 3 people said they could see I am loosing weight and I even begin to notice it myself now. My face looks more toned and my last fat belt have run out of holes after loosing 5 inches around the waist. I walk more and faster and my legs do not hurt as much any more and I don't feel totally out of breath anymore.

Yesterday I got on the scale:

Scale reading: 124.1 kg/ 273 pounds I have lost 0.9 kg / 2 pounds this week

Starting weight 139,6 kg/ 307,12 pounds BMI 42,5 (08.22.2007)

I have lost 15.5 kg / 34.1 pounds in 11 weeks

I am so happy that I have embarked on this journey towards getting in shape and reclaiming my life again. Thank you for your support Mal!!l

I certainly do feel happy about being so determined to loose my overweight and get into shape again. These days I sometimes feel like such a fool that I allowed myself to let myself go so badly as I did. Yes I was depressed and yes I binged so it is understandable that I gained a lot of weight. But I snapped out of it and I am doing something about it now. It´s correctable and forgivable. I just have to be kind to myself and forgive myself for eating so badly and not treating myself very good. It happened for a reason and it´s been a humbling lesson.
So yes I am enthusiastic and enjoy the process. I am so motivated and determined to reach my goals. It is one thing to loose the weight, but I know that I have to keep up my healthy eating habits for the rest of my life. Eating the right food and building good exercise habits is the way to go.

It does not feel like a struggle so much anymore. I just have to be patient and accept that it takes time, but It feels very good to get stronger and healthier all the time.
I have actually begun to enjoy my exercise, and accept that I have to take it slowly ..I did not become over weight in a few month And I can not expect to see results fast. I do feel the weight loss, but I am also beginning to feel stronger and better about myself and my body as proceed. Walking has become so much easier and I have more strength in my arms and shoulders. Not so sore anymore ... just the way it is supposed to feel.

I will begin to swim 2 times every week now and I am looking into Pilates exercises. And my stationary bike is not covered in dust anymore since I have actually begun using it.

It´s Wednesday and time for my weekly weigh-in:

Scale reading: 122.9 kg/ 270.4 pounds I have lost 1.2 kg / 2.64 pounds this week

Starting weight 139,6 kg/ 307,12 pounds BMI 42,5 (08.22.2007)

I have lost 16.7 kg / 36.7 pounds in 12 weeks

Congrats on the weight loss thus far!!

Patience is essential when it comes to successful weight loss.

Stay strong and keep going!!

It does not feel like a struggle so much anymore. I just have to be patient and accept that it takes time, but It feels very good to get stronger and healthier all the time.
those are wonderful realizations... congratulations... finding stuff like that is just as good as dropping apound or three -sometimes even better...

dinners

I have had dinner guests 2 times this week. I served really good meat (Chateaubriand), baguettes, herbal butter, salad, Vegetables and a special sauce and even made my apple dessert with marzipan and almonds with vanilla ice cream.

I really enjoyed the good food and my friends, but of course I worried about gaining weight. I even worried so much that got on my stationary bike and burnt 600 calories in an hour after my guests had left. It was sooo hard and sweat dripping but I really enjoy watching the numbers of calories burnt on the display.

I have not been on the scale because I fear I might have gained ... but I will wait until Wednesday to get on the scale. It does not matter anyway ... 2 good dinners do not matter much since I have been eating healthy otherwise.

Also I will go swimming again tomorrow ... I feel I have finally reached the stage where I am ready to swim twice every week. I am ready physically since I am not sore anymore after swimming 30 min. and my shoulder do not hurt. I also notice that I am not shy anymore, yes I am still a big guy, but I feel great and don´t care so much about what other think anymore.

I also need to go buy a thicker exercise mat since the one I have now is a little thin and hurt my knees. I can do 9 push ups now:hurray: I also need to buy some bigger dumbbells (30 pound set).

My plan is to get into a basic physical shape ( so I can begin to train with weights in the gym and other weight resistant machines) They also have many cardio - machines ...With my current routines I think I will be ready to join a gym Feb.1. Until then I will do home exercises, swim, bike.

I found my old spinning shorts ...thank god for spandex!!! A fabric that forgives 70 pounds ...:smilielol5::smilielol5:

I passed the 40 pounds lost mark this week

Wednesday and time for my weekly weigh-in:

I sure passed 40 pounds this week as I hoped for!!

Scale reading: 120.6 kg/ 265.3 pounds I have lost 1.4 kg / 3.1 pounds this week

Starting weight 139,6 kg/ 307,12 pounds BMI 41.6 (08.22.2007)

I have lost 19 kg / 41.8 pounds in 14 weeks :hurray:

Seems like I am going to fit the 2 nice suits I bought in Salt lake City, last year in September around Christmas time. At least for about 5-7 weeks. Having gone up and down in weight for some time means I have a lot of clothes that is either too big or too small. I am glad I kept them. I had a hope that I would one day be able to fit them again.

good that you hung on to those clothes - do get rid of - or have tailored to fit your new skinnier self - your too big clothes so you have no excuses but to keep going forward :)

Hi Niles

You visited me in my diary so I thought that I would visit you in yours.

You have done well to lose the weight that you have lost in a pretty consistent manner. I think that the only time you didnt was when you had flu.

It is excellent that your body fat ratio has gone down by so much.

I see that like me you have not joined a gym. I can thoroughly recommend wearing a pedometer. I know that you have a good exercise regime that is working very well for you - but if you are like me you are always looking for any ways to tweak and enhance it. As you probably tell your patients - the authorities all say that we should try to walk 10,000 steps per day. I am of the opinion that wearing a pedometer will be a good behaviour to see us through the maintenance section of our journey - once we have shed these surplus pounds.

You are lucky to have held on to your old clothes. I am afraid that I gave away to charity almost all my clothes below a certain size on our last two house moves. Fortunately I am now in the sizes where I gave the clothes away - so am alternating between a couple of items that got mixed up among another size! Thank goodness for mistakes. I seem to be dropping the sizes so quickly that I begrudge spending money on interim clothes if I can help it. I am saving my clothes money for the new me.

Keep up the good work.

Take care
Best wishes
Margaret
