Nice to meet you all :)

Hi, my name is Amanda and i'm 19 years old and I've been overweight my entire life. I had a lot of medical issues with asthma and heart palpitations when I very little, so I had to take different kinds of steroids for both of them which ended up resulting in a lot of weight gain. That mixed with bad eating habits continued to help me stack on the pounds.

Growing up i've dealt with a lot of teasing and people making me feel like less of a person than everyone is because i'm bigger. I get physically ill most of the time where I have to be in situations with people because it always feels like they're judging me, which is beyond frustrating because I enjoy most of life.

I'm really tired of my obesity running my life, so i've changed a lot of my habits. I'm a couple weeks old vegetarian (Choice based off of my values) and now I work out every day to aerobic videos, and my eating habits have improved. I normally eat oatmeal or whole grain bagels for breakfast, a salad for lunch and cooked vegetables/soups/whole grain pastas for dinner with vegetables or fruits in between if I need to snack.

I'm feeling a lot better about myself now, gaining self confidence every day. I'm still a little wary about getting a scale to see how much I weigh, but i'd like to to track my progress, i'm just incredibly nervous about it.

I live with my mom and she isn't too happy with my lifestyle choice because it's not as simple as opening a bag of cookies for dinner so I don't really have anyone to talk to because i've been afraid of making friends and maintaining them due to how I see myself.

I'm really looking forward to meeting you all and sharing my progress with you <3

I would definitely encourage you to get on the scales. And - you will never believe this - have a photo taken too. If you feel uncomfortable about your size you probably hide from the camera whenever possible as I did - but when you get rid of those pounds you will wish that you had a few "before" pictures. People really love to see them - and they really have a way of making you feel good. Three people yesterday asked to see mine and I didnt have them on me!!!!

I also think that it really helps to get out a tape measure and keep a note of measurements too...

I used to believe that it would be impossible for me to lose the weight - but the fact is that it wasnt. There are plenty of people here who have lost as much as and more than me too. Once you know the extent of the problem you will see that you have every chance with hard work of making your weight loss dreams come true. You just have to believe that you can do it and be willing to put in the hard work.

Ignore the idiots that have said stupid things to you. Many of us have experienced that and it isnt nice.

Well done for making healthy changes to your diet. I suggest that you read the sections on nutrition. Evaluate your calories and nutrients too as you can still overeat / eat an unhealthy mix regarding some nutrients while eating what most people would think of as healthy food. Starchy carbs like bread, pasta, rice, cereals, potatoes can be a bit of a culprit in this area as it can be really easy to overeat them.

I use to evaluate my calories and nutrients. Get yourself a free account there and set up your profile. Enter your food and activity and you will see your calorie balance which shows whether you deserve a weight loss. Evaluating your nutrients allows you to hone the quality of your diet for not only good health but for optimum weight loss too. People may not be aware - but the numbers regarding such things as protein, fibre and calcium can actually help you lose weight. It isnt just calories alone.

As far as making friends here goes - I suggest that you start a diary in the diaries section. Then see who visits. Then visit them back in their diaries. Also visit peoples diaries and leave messages.

Another good way of making friends is to join clubs and challenges and generally post quite a lot.

Good luck with your project.

Welcome, Amanda!
Yes, definitely get a scale and weigh, so you can have a starting point and then you will be able to set some goals, or even mini-goals for yourself. Perhaps a small reward for yourself for every 10 pounds lost? DO you have any idea how much you would like to lose?
Be sure to read the stickies on here...they are very informative and helpful!
Good luck!
Di

Welcome Amanda, I am new here also. I help people achieve their goals. I need to find the rules for this forum to see if I am actively allowed to promote my free help sheet.

I wish you the best in your plan to lose your weight and become the person you desire to be.
