Nibbit's Diary

Thanks for the video link Mandie...I had to laugh though when that guy was holding a burger the size of a small dog and then they showed statue of liberty holding a burger and a bottle of heinz ketchup, lol. So what is it about the "raw" part that's different? I mean I know cooking loses some nutrients but I'm sure there's more to it?

I think I'm going to keep this in mind for down the road. After being so restricted and my mindset with dieting being messed up I don't think I could do it right now...and definitely want to get a strong foothold on my weightloss. But later when I hit a plateau I could definitely see me trying it. So on "raw" is it only fruits and veggies...what about salad dressing...guessing no because it's processed dairy?

Lots of salad dressing can work OK, cold-pressed olive oil-balsamic vinaigrette is good. Here:

Ya know...the only obstacle I'm worried about is the same problem I had with doing low-carb. I take metformin, which if it was only for my insulin resistance that'd be no problem. But it's also for my pcos and elevated hormone levels...which when my weight is down may reverse itself but it's a wait and see. On Atkins I was constantly fighting the fact that my diet was correcting the blood sugar problem and then the metformin was dropping me too low...probably part of the reason I'd start having mad cravings and end up feeling really crappy. Of course with the raw fruit maybe that wouldn't be a problem. Anyway I'm definitely not ready for that right now but I'll be looking into it.

I fully...FULLY support a vegan diet and I am a real fan of the raw vegan diet. This is not my first time on raw vegan. I did have a 20 day challenge not too long ago and I went through it fine.

BUT

The first two weeks I went through a detox period. That is the toughest. That is when you feel the sickest. But that is also when your body is cleaning house! You 'feel' sick because your body is using all it can to clean out the bad stuff.

Its really so hard for me to explain in detail. I've researched so much of it and I am still awful at words :).

A raw vegan diet is the natural diet. The way people should eat. I realize there is much debate on this, but I came to this conclusion on my own research as well. I was a biology major in college and I never learned so much about human biology until switching my diet :). I have so many videos that I want to share, but am afraid to force my research down other peoples throats :). I am no activist, but I do back my own diet! It has really helped me.

Even with my random fishy craving :). I went back on the raw vegan diet right afterwards. Considering my past with over-eating, that is really something.

You really do go through some sort of change once 'turning' raw vegan. BUT, it also takes a lot of will power to stick to it. I mean, fries, chips, cooked potatos, even the smell of cooked vegan food will turn those cravings on full power.

I just try to remember that cheese has an ingrediant made from baby calves stomachs and cooked food is drained of its yummy goodness. (My weakness is cheese...and yeah, its true. Baby calves stomachs.... :( ).

Oh man, I'm ranting :). SORRY!

If anyone wants to learn about raw veganism, please read up and study up on it fully before jumping into it. Though it says that its simple to do, making sure that your nutrients are correctly distributed in a daily diet is difficult for me. Maybe not for some, but for me it is.

And yes, cancer and all sorts of things are controled and/or prevented with raw veganism.

This reminds me, I made a blog on MYSPACE about the changes my own body has gone through since becoming raw vegan over the course of the last full year....I'm considering placing that blog post here so people can see .

Wow...didn't know about the cheese thing until you said. I looked it up and found several places it talked about it..."rennet" is what it's called. I can't really get all squeemish now though because I'm not vegan. But in case you're really missing cheese I saw there's vegetarian versions that don't use it. This is what wiki said:

"For a few cheeses, the milk is curdled by adding acids such as vinegar or lemon juice. Most cheeses are acidified to a lesser degree by bacteria, which turn milk sugars into lactic acid, then the addition of rennet completes the curdling. Vegetarian alternatives to rennet are available; most are produced by fermentation of the fungus Mucor miehei, but others have been extracted from various species of the Cynara thistle family."

I'm guessing you could probably find it at a healthfood store...although I don't know if it's ok with what you're doing right now. Anyway talk to you later :)

Oh man, you know about that Baskin-Robbins dude who gave up the empire of ice cream and started Diet for a New America a while back? We watched that in biology....

When I was 16 I went to a goose farm in France where they made rustic pâte. I got to see the goslings from baby chicks to older and older then adults. Then I watched the French guy shove a metal hanging feeder tube and sort of jack off the goose's neck to get the food in her/him. Then I saw the machine that the gooses go through. It had rubber fingers that stripped the goose of all her feathers while she was STILL ALIVE....and this is very humane compared to commercial poultry in the USA.....

I've seen that too.....its amazing what they keep hidden behind closed doors when it comes to the food industry :(.

It makes me very sad :(. Everyone has a right to know where their food comes from. Thats why its organic all the way! Well, as close as you can be :)

As far as the vegan version of cheese goes, I have yet to try the stuff! haha. I'll have to order it though. My grocery store NOR my health food place offers vegan version food. I think I'm the only vegan in this area :(

At least the farmers market on saturday mornings keeps me stocked up on most of my stuff :p

I don like vegan cheese much, BUT the raw organic cashew nut milk cheese that Cafe Gratitude (out of SF and Berkeley) and La Vie Restaurant in Santa Cruz (mostly vegan, used to be all raw, now offers cooked as well) is DELICIOUS :drooling:

There is little more pleasure I get from ice cream than I get from cashew nut milk ice cream with raw brownies, macademia nuts, and vegan raw caramel :drooling:

Omg, you're making me hungry! We definatly dont have stuff like that around here. I have to go to Amsterdam (a little over 2 hours away) to get a vegan cafe. :(

Anyway, its 11:30 in the morning and I just woke up like 20 minutes ago. I was planning on sleeping in, but not so late :blush5: .

But I got a nice email today from one of my email subscriptions. I get the Daily Raw Inspiriation and she sent out a really good one today. I wanted to share that with yall as well if anyone is interested. Its photos of raw vegans and at the very bottom of the page is a link to go to some before/afters of people that were overweight than went raw.

If you want to take a look at Jinjee's website, go .

It was a random link I clicked on a couple years ago when I was vegan and I found this family. It was Jinjee that eventually converted me, though she doesn't know it. I think they know how inspirational they are though :p.

Daily food will be entered as the day progresses :).

Day 2 of juice fast.

Breakfast was skipped unfortunatly, due to sleeping in :p. But I did have a cup of espresso with raw sugar.

Lunch:

Juice from:
4 little sprigy things of broccolli
2 carrots
2 apples
1 banana
1 stalk of celary

In between juicy.

Cranberry Juice. (awesome anti-oxident and great for the immune system. Studied in its ability to prevent cancers and its awesome for unclogging the ateries. Great for uninary tract infections and also helps tooth and gum diseases. Cranberries are a raw vegan superfood.)

Also had another cup of espresso :)

Felt a bit weak and shakey so I had:

Freshly squeezed orange juice from 3 oranges
cup of herbal tea.

Supper:

I had the most delicious raw supper today!

It involved:

10 cherry tomatos
1 normal tomato
1/4 of a cucumber
1.5 cups of spinach
1 clove of garlic
a bit of hot pepper
oragano
basil
sea salt
1/3 cup olive oil
1.5 tablespoon balamic vinegar
a bit of ground black pepper

Put it all in the blender, set on highest setting and blend! You have a yummy raw soup! Oh my god, its delicious =).

Work-out:
30 minutes tae bo cardio

Wow that a bunch of those people in that link look so young, I can't believe that one guy is 59. Anyway your dinner does look good :) Course it's only noon here for me. And I worked last night so I'm going to make attempt #3 to try and get some sleep ;/ Have a great day :) ~Lisa

Sweetest dreams to you ^^. I hope you sleep well! :)

My supper was huge. I couldn't even finish it, but it was delicious :drool5:! Think it needs less olive oil though, but i was following a recipe. I'll add my own touches to it when I have it again :).

But yeah, the people are transformed from those pictures. Actually, if you search raw vegan before/afters, all you see are awesome transformations. Of course, thats with a lot of diet lifestyles etc. But raw veganism requires a lot of research. You can't just have cucumbers and apples all the time. The hardest part is food combining and making sure you get the nutrients your body uses and needs.

If you can do that, then nothing can really go wrong. Your weight will level out, toxins and other infiltrants will run from your body, and a new glow will surround you. Sounds cheesy huh? But its so true :).

Until the cravings sneak in :p.

I have a new low weight :), but I'm not getting too excited until I have throughly beaten this weight plateau of being stuck at 73 kilos. Previous low was 73.3. Today, it was an ever so slight drop into 73.2. Last week, I had actually jumped back up to 74.5 kilos.

So basically, I went up to 164 pounds in one week and now I'm back down to 161. In the past 10 years or so, I haven't been below 161 pounds. A little embaressing, but if I reach 72 kilos (158 pounds), I will be one freakingly happy chick :p. Then I'll work on my final stretch to 132 pounds. If I'm happy, I'll maintain that weight. If I'm unhappy, I'll continue on to 120-125. We'll see how it goes from there. I dont want to make too many plans.

I also checked my body measurements today. My biceps, forearms and individual thighs have slimmed down. But the chest, waist, and hips so no change. I'm not bothered though! I'm happy to see the weight change and I also know I'm building muscle at the same time.

Breakfast has been skipped again :banghead: . I'll make up for it though. The juice fasting really fills me up when I have leafy greens smooshed in with the fruit. But pure fruit juices make you suffer slightly. I'll input my juicies as the day progresses (as usual). :p

Lunch:

Peace and orange juice =)
espresso with two clumps of raw sugar

Snack:

Just an orange juice.

Dinner:

Stacked up on veggies with a raw Gezpacho 'Soup'

1 cucumber, sliced into chunks

Red bell pepper, any color

1 tbsp lemon juice
Some green parts of the forest onion
3 tbsp balsamic vinegar

1 tsp chopped fresh parsley
1 tsp chopped fresh basil
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

YUMMY! But I won't be able to finish it :p

Peace and orange juice =)

What does Peace taste like ? :blush5:

I've stolen your gezpacho recipe, I hope you don't mind. I'm a newbie to healthy cooking so anything I can get, I try! Although I still wasn't able to find out what a forest onion is. I looked up what you had told me before. Weird.

Glad to hear your progress.. new low weight ?! NICE ! :hurray:
I'm still working on buying a juicer (okay, forgetting is more like it) but when I do, I'll definately need your advice on what's the best combos.

Oh, and Good Morning because I'm guessing you just woke up :D

Peace? LOL I meant peach! lol Oh man, what a silly typo :blush5:

I dont mind at all! Take all the recipes I post on here! The only thing is that the gezpacho it is served cold and usually in the summer time. I hope its not too big of a shock on you. I forgot to mention that you throw all of that into the blender. Put your tomatos in first because it blends better. I learned that the hard way :p

I'm actually fixing to go to bed lol. At 2 am in the morning. Eek! So I caught you post before going to bed! I'm glad to hear from you again!

*huggle*

How is everying!
