Newbie: My Goal & Plan

Hi Everyone, I am a 27 and have been struggling with weight my whole life. I've always had a love for food. It just tastes so darn good =P. I’ve FINALLY come to realize that my weight has been the root of my problems. I’ve allowed myself to hide behind it and it has kept me from doing things I’ve always wanted to do.

I recently got out of a 3 yr relationship and it has opened my eyes. I lost all ambitions for myself and got too “comfortable”. Working out has really helped me through this tough time and I’m learning to love it. All this weight has left me with low self esteem and an all around negative energy. I’ve been up and down with the weight and never stayed committed. I am now ready to find myself and let that inner confidence radiate. I’m motivated, determined and focused. This is a battle I want to win and understand it starts by changing my lifestyle. I'm ready for a brand new me inside and out!

Starting Weight as of 4/27/09: 192 lbs
My Current Weight: 188 lbs
My Goal Weight: 125 lbs

My Current Plan:
I've been using an app on my iPhone called "Lose it"
It tracks all my food/calories and exercise. I've counted calories before (pen and notebook) and it has really worked for me. Now with this app it's a breeze. With the information I provided the app and wanting to lose 2 lbs a week, I am allowed 1200 calories a day. Calorie intake increases with exercise.

Meal Plan:
I'm all about convenience but have recently learned I enjoy cooking. With my lifestyle, it works well for me. These are the main things I eat but I do switch it up. I’ll eat whatever looks tasty and healthy.

Morning: Slim Fast Shake or English muffin with 1 TBSP of Peanut Butter
Snack: Nutrigrain Bar, Fruit, Crackers or Oatmeal
Lunch: Lean Cuisine, Sandwiches
Snack: Nutrigrain Bar, Fruit, Crackers or Oatmeal
Dinner: (Freshly prepared) Grilled Chicken Breast & Vegetables, Salads or Pretty much anything but in moderation. I do try to make healthier choices though.

Workout Plan:
I try to do different things so I don’t get bored. Since I have free time now, I push for 6 days a week. I listen to upbeat music to get me pumped.

Cardio (Elliptical, Treadmill) at least 30 minutes a day. Best with Interval training.
Workout DVDs – Fast Walking, Kickboxing, Aerobics
Walk/Jog in the park
Hiking with a friend
If you have a gym membership, take classes there
Swimming (I’m not comfortable with my body to swim yet.)

Tips:
There's no easy/quick solution. No magic pill or diet. You have to change your lifestyle. Focus on being healthy rather than being thin.

Make NO Excuses! You are WORTH the time and effort!

Exercise, not only is it key for weight loss but it’s good for your overall health.
I feel terrific after a good sweat.

Patience, I am so not good with this. However I am doing much better. It is easy to get frustrated because the weight is not coming off fast enough. Good things take time. Just stick with your plan and stay positive. It’s only as difficult as you make it.

Nothing FRIED!!! Ok sometimes but try to stay away from it.

It's ok to treat yourself once in a while but remember, all in MODERATION.

No Soda. They’re just empty calories. Drink Water LOTS of water.

If you fall off the wagon, get back on and keep going!

Life takes on meaning when you become motivated, set goals and charge after them in an unstoppable manner. – Les Brown

I'm looking foward to talking to you all! :grouphug:

Hey I think that it's great that you know your goals and are running at them. I know where you're coming from with the ending a relationship, getting too comfortable, kinda thing. I left my x fiancé about 2 years ago and I was 208 pounds. I had never been so distraught before in my life when I stepped on that scale. I like that you're ready to take it all on! I am really trying, I just want to feel good in a bikini!!

hey i really like your attitude im kinda in the same spot as u just got outa a relationship and just feel like i need to get myself back on track. u sound really positive and best of luck to you

Nismosylvia: How much do you weigh now? I would LOVE to get bikini ready. I've always avoided pools and beaches but that's all gonna change. :coolgleamA:

Natalia17: I've been negative for too long. When you have all the time in the world to think, you realize that in the end, all you have is yourself. We can either wallow and eat ice cream or take control of the situation. Being positive makes me feel really good inside. Stay strong!! It's your turn to find that superfox within. =)

I weigh.... 168 that was taken last week! I have been working out really hard at the gym the past week and a half so who knows now!! Could be... 164??? MAYBEE :) Yeah I'm planning on going somewhere that requires bikini attire in august! My goal is to be 140-135 I am heading there strong! I as well am going to take up boxing starting on Friday so we will see how that goes as well! I am super excited as should you be!

Help, A damsel in distress

Hello to all

I'm very much new here too. The reason why I joined this forum is that, I would like to know, how do you maintain a healthy body if your work requires you to render service in the night shift? I will appreciate advise that you can give.

Thanks.

nismosylvia: Go You!!! :) 40+ pounds is awesome. My highest loss was 30+ but then came the relationship and I gained it back in a blink of an eye. This time it's staying off. The next guy better enjoy working out.

I like your "I can do it" attitude! Best of luck to you and keep me posted on your progress. Oh and let me know how boxing goes. Maybe I'll give it a try.

In 3 months we'll be celebrating your Accomplishment!

Sophie: Welcome!
To maintain I would make sure you get at least 30 mins of activity a day. You can even break it down throughout the day.

For nutrition, do a search for "Daily Calorie Needs Calculator". Once you find it, input your weight, height and age and it will tell you about how many calories you need in order to mantain your weight. If you need a link, let me know.

Hey Superfox!

Great start and great attitude!

I especially like what you said about "treating yourself" but in moderation. This is a step that some dieters miss...they are SO focused on cutting EVERYTHING out...that eventually they feel so deprived and just give up or binge.

The key is "treating yourself" to foods that are satisfying, but that don't wreck your diet!

I think you're on the right track....keep it up!

Hi Superfox,

I'm also just starting out. You make some really good valid points.
My main thing is keeping the motivation. I just had a talk with my trainer and it helped a lot. Also joining the forums here and hearing everyone's story has really helped me to want to push myself.

There are things you can do that work for you to keep yourself motivated.
If you accomplish going to the gym for 5 days in a row, buy yourself something you enjoy. A friend told me about something she read/heard. Someone was saving 5 dollars for every pound she lost and with the money at the end of reaching her goal, she' using it to buy new clothes. Simple things that keep you on track.

Thanks for sharing. I wish you well!
I look forward to hearing about your progress!

superfox thanx for the kind words ive lost 20lbs its been about i mth and a half and im really starting to feel great lol i look at myself now and i really am seeing me u know not hiding behind my weight lol or just not as much i still got like 35lbs to go but yea i am worth it we all are and theres no way that im gunna let people places or things lead me to hurt myself and feel bad about myself. its a new day and a bright future
all the best

YAY!!! I LOVE everyone’s positive vibe!! I'm so glad I joined this forum.

timhale: Thank You Thank You for the support!! Yea it would be unrealistic for me to cut everything out. Then I would be miserable. I'd love to hear your story :)

Twiist: Saving $5 for every pound is a brilliant idea. Thanks to you and your friend for that input. I can't wait to go clothes shopping at all the stores I've always passed by at the mall because it's not in my size range. Let's keep each other motivated.

natalia17: That's the spirit. Great Job on your 20 lbs loss. Keep me posted on your progress. I'm here if ya need me :)

My story huh ;)

Well I've always dealt with weight issues - either with myself, relatives/friends, or clients/associates. Weight problems plague our country, so I've taken a major interest to doing what I can do to help people.

I don't really struggle myself as much anymore. I actually work as a soccer coach and a personal trainer and I own my own business that is centered around a great weight-loss chocolate product.

Anything I can do to pass on my experience and knowledge is what I look to do these days!

Question: Do men lose weight faster in the beginning than women?

Hi I am pretty new to this forum and wanted to reply to your question.

I think it all depends on the way the man and the women approach the
weight loss in the first place. What i know from experience is that both
need a motivation to actually stick to it, and women are much better
with this then most men (again my observation), also and then more from
my personal experience, when i lost weight it showed up pretty quick
in my face and also my belly but i did not compare this to a woman losing
weight. Women have more places were the extra weight sits then men.

All in all I know that biggest part of wanting to loose weight and also
having great results is as you said the attitude, the way you want to see yourself.
Trying to loose weight because of what other people think of you
is (in my opinion) a waste of time, wrong motivation.
YOU have to be comfortable with who you are first..the rest will follow...

Cheers
:cheers2:

Thanks for the input fran240 :)

I asked that question because we are doing Biggest Loser at work and it seems the men have lost way more than the women have. And they make little comments like "I had a Ice Cream Sandwich with my dinner last night" or "I haven't done anything differently" :boxing: Maybe they are just trying to grate our nerves.

The women are averaging a loss of 2 lbs this week and the men are averaging 3 - 5 lbs.

It definitely starts with the inside. You got to be positive and do it for yourself not anyone else :)

:cheers2::cheers2: Ahh well but that explains it for me...

You started a competition and man are (most are) achievers so there you have your answer :willy_nilly:!!

Maybe this is a good way of motivating the women at work...create an incentive and the results will be even better!! :hat:

Hi Superfly, I can't believe I never saw your thread here. Anyways, it's nice to finally see more about you and your goals. Your motivation is motivating me. Just curious as to how tall you are?

Also, people here were talking about clothes shopping. With my weight loss I was looking pretty darn sloppy in my old cloths. I have never been a clothes shopper, but I am starting to love the thrift stores. I have gone from a 2XL to a L and from 44 pants to 38 so weighting till i get to my goal was not an option for me. I was litterally swimming in my old clothes. I go to the thrift store about every 2 weeks now and get 3 or 4 outfits for under 20 bucks. And most of it is more expensive brands then I used to buy for myself. Just somethign to keep in mind I guess as the weight comes off for you. Keep up the hard work!

Hey! I'm an achiever! :p I'm off to a good start this week so let's see what the results are for the next weigh in.

:D! I'm glad I'm motivating you Doug. BTW, My name is Catherine but everyone calls me Cat.
I'm 5'2... yes short, so I'm considered obese but I'd prefer the term "Extra" Beautiful ;)

I used to be 165 when I started my relationship so I still have some of those clothes. I would really hate to buy clothes but I may have to buy some in my transition. I'm hoping to get into a small – medium and size 5 – 7 by the beginning of next year. The smallest size I have ever been is a size 3.

I'm super excited to get to my goal! I'll post pictures when there is a difference.

Oh I found an old pic of me at 165. So here it is.
About 2 years ago I think. Sorry it' not a full body.

And here is a pic of me from the end of February 2009 at 197 lbs.
I blocked out the face because I look pretty drunk :p

Hey Superfox, I say stop when you get back to 165!!! I think you look great in that picture. seriously, you need to do what will make you feel great. You'll make your goal.
