Newbie looking for buddies

Hello! I'm new here and I am looking for support and buddies. I am currently 5'5 female and weigh 245lbs. I was thinner for a brief time in my life. I have never been skinny, nor do I want to be. I want to get healthy and fit. My scale goal is 175.

Hi Jilly,

I am right there with you. Our stats are VERY close.

I have make it to goal twice, but it's the KEEPING it off that always floors me.

So do you have a plan?
I have found after everything I have been thru that what works for me is everything in moderation, counting calories and exercise.

Right now I walk a couple of miles in the AM - 5-6 days a week.
I will work up to more as I can.

I have been really into fitness in the past and hope to get there again, right now, the walking (listen to books on tape while I am walking) is what I want and what my body is craving.

What are you doing?
Cary~

Cary-That is what I'm trying to do...portions, eating more fruits and veggies. I have completely cut out sugary sodas. If I need a caffiene pick me up I drink diet dr pepper. I have ordered a workout dvd from the biggest loser but it has not came in yet. :( I would love to start walking but it is icy cold here. I'm hoping the dvd will get me by until Spring.
I'm also hoping to conceive once I shed some weight. Me and DH have been trying for 8 months now with no luck. Of course that could be a blessing in disguise. The heavier you are the harder pregnancy you have. We'll see what happens.
Here's to losing weight!:cheers2:

Hey Jilly,

Thanks for being my first friend!

I started off with "Walk off the Weight" as my very first exercise inside.
I was suprised how much I broke a sweat. I worked out in my living room that first winter for months before it was warm enough to go out. (Lived in AR then).

Do you have any excercise channels?
I just found a belly dancing show on "FitTV" on our cable station.
I used to save "back in the day" a series of workouts on my own tape. I would tape different sections of different shows, so I had a series I loved with a little bit of several things.. like starting off with yoga, then a little kickboxing then something else.. until I had a nice 35 min workout that was exactly what I wanted. Do you have any of the workout shows?

I love eating this way.
I have tried SO many different ways of eating. I once lost alot of weight on Low carb (which really helped my PCOS) but I just can't keep that lifestyle up.

This way I can have a little of whatever I want (I actually do try to eat REAL food 80% of the time) - I do eat too many frozen diet meals, but we do what we can, right!

Nice to be getting to know ya,
Cary~

Cary,

Unfortunately I don't have any channels, but I'm so excited about the dvd. I watch the show when I can. It is such a motivation.

Ok here is my history: I grew up being the chubby girl but it didn't bother me too much. Then when I went to high school a couple of my neighbors started smoking and I thought what could it hurt I'll try too. BIG MISTAKE! I got hooked and in order to smoke we had to take long walks away from our houses. I would walk a mile to smoke probably anywhere from 3-6 times a day.
Later on I started working behind a desk when I was 20 and eating fast food all the time. Next thing I know I'm 30 years old and have gained 100lbs. since I was 16.
Now more than ever I want to get healthy and fit and stay that way.
My husband is changing his lifestyle also, but it helps to have a female to talk to. Considering men lose faster then woman.

Wow!

I found the cig. store interesting. I too smoked, actually until last year, well on and off.. I finally truly quit last year.

It's so great your hubbie is doing this with you. Patrick (my DH) is no where near as over weight as I am (again).. he only needs to shoot for 25-30 lost. But I love that I can cook what I need to and he will gladly eat it.

Do you have a library close?
You can also rent dvd's there. but I am sure yours will be in soon!

So do you like to cook?
I am afraid I LOVE to cook and this is part of my problem.. I am WAY too much of a foodie.

I actually wanted to be a pastry chef when I was in highschool.. Luckily my parents talked me out of it. I still like to cook to much in the way of that.

You have great motivation to do this. Having a partner that loves and supports you makes it much easier. You should measure (with a tape measurer) now. and take pix too.. It was one thing that really helped me in the past. I was very prone to not showing weight loss on the scale but would almost always show it when I would re-measure for comparison.

I had Patrick take pix of me front, back and side (good lord! - glad he loves me) last night for my new "before".. I am just thankful I didn't gain it ALL back this time.

What's for dinner?

Welcome
I joined a couple of weeks ago. I am now posting in the weight loss diary thread but I try to pop in here some too to offer encouragement. I have tyed the tactic of setting small goals that I can attain and moving from one to the next. My first one was to exercise 12 days in a row. Did it! Another one is no fast food (non) for two months...so far so good. anyhow best wishes and stay focused.

Hello

Welcome!

I read your message and its very refreshing to find someone who isnt looking to become a size 1 lol. I am a bit more to lose than you but I'm 5'6..280 hoping to get down to 180 which I think will be great...fit but still curvy. So I am interested in knowing how your journey goes and look forward to updates. Best of luck. We're all in this together :)

Well guys today has been disappointing. I found out that the dvd's I ordered Jan. 4 have not yet been shipped out (are you kidding me) so I cancelled my order and have found the biggest loser workout video at walmart. The only problem is my walmart doesn't have it. I'm going to look around town tomorrow somewhere else. Also when I weighed in this morning I have not lost a pound! :banghead: Maybe when I start my workout it will start coming off. (I hope!)

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Thanks Brawny! Well I did order the dvd's from walmart.com, so hopefully they will be in either this week or next. Also my husband and I are going to try to find a gym today. Yay! I'll keep you posted.

If you need a buddy, send me a PM with your email. I'm trying to get a buddy system type thing going on. I'm married, so no worries about some weird creepy dude trying to hit on you.

Gator-As soon as my 5 days are up (which should be tomorrow) I will PM u. I would love to get a buddy system going on. These boards are great but sometimes I get lost.

Cary,
I'm so excited, I found a fitness channel on my cable tv. Yeah!!! I worked out for an hour last night. I tried a few different workouts. They were all kickin my butt, especially Latin Dance. I learned how to salsa and mambo. It's a very sexy dance, but it was hard to keep up with my too left feet. After I finished I felt good and pumped! I even tried the scales this morning, and I'm down 1 lb. I had been holding steady for a week, so I'm hoping this is what I needed to get the weight rolling off.

To answer your earlier post, I hate cooking. My weakness is fast food places, and already made dinners (just heat and eat). Thank goodness my husband can cook, he has been helping me. I just don't have the patience. When I'm hungry I want food now, but I am getting better at waiting.

Well enough from me today, hope everyone is doing well. As soon as I get off probation from the website I'll send you guys a pm.

Jilly - do you have a DVD player?

If you can get a list of shows from one of the other posters - I have a DVD burner, and could record and burn some of the shows if you want. I think I have Fit TV - yes - I just confirmed it. I also have TiVo and can set to record multiple shows. Then can send to you.

Let me know.

Jim

Thanks Jim! I do have a dvd player. I'm not sure what info you need from me, but I like Cardio, Aerobics, Strength Training, and Dance (all beginners) if that helps. Just let me know. I'll see if I can pm you yet.

Again Thanks,
Jill

Got your PM...have started recording the shows you requested. Will let you know when I get a disk or two filled.

Jim

Hey Jilly. Welcome to the board! We seem a lot alike. I'm 5'4" and 239.5 as of this morning. I too don't want to be a size zero and I'm here mainly for encouragement. I just wanted to pop in and wish you luck!

As far as your progress great job on the pound! I know that for me the working out definitely enhances my work dieting ten fold. Keep it up. <3

new today

need some good people to keep me motivated, so far lost 9 lbs in 3 weeks, 255 to 246 I am 35, female from Illinois.

Hello everyone! Well I have to confess...I had an emotional breakdown this weekend and had 4 slices of pizza instead of two for dinner last night. Then I had 4 chocolate balls. :banghead: I feel horrible today. I was feeling down yesterday morning then me and DH had a little argument :argue: so I bawled it all out last night. This morning I woke up with my eyes all swollen from crying so much and I felt awful.
Tomorrow is a new day and weigh in day. BTW I finally got my videos and I tried them out yesterday (before the argument, thank goodness) and I love them. I orginially was only going to do them every other day, but in order for me to see results I think I will do them every day. They are not hard and I feel so good and proud of myself afterwards.
Enough about me what's been goin on with u guys?
