Hi all,
I thought that the best way for me to lose weight that I have wanted to lose for a while is to go somewhere that I can be totally open and honest about my eating and exercise. Well here I am. I started gaining weight in my early 20's when I worked shift work as found it hard to know when to eat and ended up eating to excess. I have lost and put it on again since then. Max being 238 lbs ish.
Anyway now I am 221 lbs after gaining 24 lbs since the beginning of this year.
My aim to begin with is to get to 175 lbs. I'll reevaluate then if I want to lose more but know that I have been very happy about my size/shape at that weight previously. I'm 5' 8.5 ". Medium frame. Female. Mid 30's.
I am very aware of food and all the food groups, what's good for you what's not etc. I need to educate myself further with regards to fitness and weights. I used to do a lot of sports when younger. I still swim a lot. I think I'm beginning the journey, wish me luck!!

I'm new here too, and have found a ton of info and motivation just reading all the stuff on this board, especially the diaries. Good luck on your weight loss....you can do it! :)

hi all,
Well I am on week four and I lost 7 lbs in the first 3 weeks. I had 2 special occasions at the weekend and while I was very mindful of what I was eating I knew it was to excess - I was out for dinner on both nights. I felt really guilty and have since (the last two nights) after eating healthily all day have ended up having mini binges both nights.
I suppose I just wanted to share this. I am hoping to get back up on the wagon and back on the straight and narrow from tomorrow.
I must add I have had a head-cold for about a week and I think it is because I cannot taste my food properly that I am looking for the highly flavoured crap that is available.
I also work shift which some days make it hard.
Rant over, ass kicked and back to great ways to lose the weight. Oh and I must weigh myself as I probably put on lbs.
Thanks all inspiration welcome.

Well just to say I felt so sick this morning I will not be doing what I did the last 2 nights. I had about a third of what I would normally have before I started counting the cals but gosh it was too much and I paid the price this morning.

I'm new to the forum as well. I understand completely about shift work making it difficult to stick to a diet. I've been dispatching for two years and have gained around 50lbs since starting! It's so hard to stick to a healthy diet long enough to see results.

welcome :D I hope you can find what you need. Everyone's very supportive here and you can find lots of useful information. I hope everything works for you :)

hi there, and welcome! If you are commiting yourself to this, I would suggest starting a diary in the diaries section, that way you can keep up with yourself and everyone else, it helps to keep me motivated :)

I need to educate myself further with regards to fitness and weights.

I would suggest that you read the stickies in the "on topic" forum, lots and lots of basic, good information there.

Welcome again :)

Just to let you all know I lost 8 lbs in my first 4 weeks. I am delighted. I didn't have a great third and fourth week but I'm still down!! Yipee.

Hey,

In reference to shift work are you still doing shifts? I ask because if they are night shifts this will play havoc with your hormones (mainly adrenals) and inhibit your ability to lose weight effectively due to the amount of stress they are under. If you are a night shift person i would seriously consider dis-continuing your job purely on that health basis. After all we are designed to sleep when the sun goes down.

Thanks Ben,
Yes I still work shifts. I only do nights one week in four. I don't find the week of nights too bad at all as I try to get plenty of sleep, exercise and I eat well during the day only eating some fruit and a yogurt at most on the actual shift. I fill up on herbal teas also.
I find once I have planned well I am ok. I have started eating a dinner before my late shift (2pm -10pm) meaning I have dinner at 12.30 but it keeps me filled up so works.

ah thats great, at least you have found something that works for you as night shifts can play havoc with anyones health, but yes one week in four isnt bad.

Hello there niceone, and welcome to the forums. I am also doing some shift work (two splits, two lates, one evening) and I have found the brown bag to be my greatest ally. I plan out what I need for the shift ahead, pack an extra snack, and head on out.

Also, protein helps with hunger control so you might consider bringing a little can of tuna or 4 oz chunk of chicken to work with you since the yogurt probly doesn't have enough to quite do the trick.

And if you're going to keep us posted the journal section is the place to start a thread for it. Best of luck.

My protein intake this week has been poor and I think it has had a knock on effect in the fact that I have had a poor week overall. Cravings late in the day etc.
I was working the worst week in the four week shift pattern at work so glad it is over and here's hoping for 3 great weeks.
