hello all

im new here ^^

just wanted to say hello, and i am going to try out an exercise plan and i would like to hear all of your opinions on my plan, especially from those who might have done this and have gotten results. any kind of feedback is welcome.

im almost 20, and i thought that its about damn time to change. i wanna be hot! (lol) but seriously i just wanna look good for my family and especially my boyfriend. ive never done an exercise plan before or a diet, just because (i admit) im too lazy and i thought it would never work for me... fat for life >_>

i dont know my exact weight atm but probably 230 lbs or so. i dont have a goal set either, but i just want to look realistic, i know i wont look like a magazine model, i just want a relatively flat stomach, and smooth looking arms and legs.

my plan is to first start off by walking for 30 mins every day for 2 weeks. also during this time to cut back on the sodas and especially cut down a good bit on how much food i eat each meal. i just want to take the first 2 weeks slowly, because ive never really worked out a lot, i just wanna get myself motivated and my heart pumping w/o giving myself a heart attack (lol)

after those 2 weeks i plan to start doing some arm exercises with weights, while still walking every day for 30 mins (and will pick up the pase in my walking speed). reason why i choose arm exercises was because i really hate my arms and i have a feeling that it would probably be a difficult area to lose weight in. no more fast food restaurants, no more sodas, and still cut down on the amount of food i eat.

so about 1 hour of working out every day with less proportioned food, fruits for a snack, no sodas, no restaurants.

what i want opinions on is, can i loose weight by not over working myself? if i exercise every day, even if its only an hours work of not that hard working exercises (at least to me it doesnt seem like its not as hard as bike riding or sit ups)? i dont expect to shed off a lot of weight in a short amount of time... but after at least a month will i notice any results? reason why i ask this is because i have always thought you would need to seriously work out, getting up a huge sweat, sit ups, running, push ups, biking, hard core exercises like that to really lose weight?

anyways thanks for reading my short novel ^^ and thanks for the responds in advance :)

Yes, indeed you can lose weight without doing hard exercise. I lost the first 80 pounds or so by just dieting and walking the dog. All that is necessary is to eat less calories than you are burning. This can be done by limiting what you are eating, and exercise will help too. I think you have a good plan. I suggest reading the sticky threads on this forum to get more ideas on your diet and exercise plan.

Hi! I'm new here too.

Harold is right on point, walking can do amazing things! My mother, who just turned 60 a few days ago, over the past year lost 75 pounds by eating healthier and walking 6 days a week.

You also mentioned cutting back on the soda. That is HUGE! Another firend of mine dropped 30 pounds just by cutting soda out. Soda is really empty calories, and if you are drinking regular, forget about it... it's just flat out BAD. I use to be a big soda drinker but, I've switched to mainly green tea (decaf). It's hard at first, the caffeine headaches can be a killer.

Here is a little incentive to give up the soda too: Soda fountains contained fecal bacteria, study found - CNN.com

thanks for the info guys ^^ i always drink a can of soda with dinner... i dont drink it unless im eating something ... i think it will be hard to stop drinking it but its defiantly something i will have to do XD i was thinking of trying those water mixes that u mix into a bottle of water or a glass. would those drinks be ok?

Hi

Flavoured bottled water is a lot better than SODAs.

The main aspects will be what you eat and not so much how much you eat (as you can can pretty much eat loads of veggies and fruit without problems) as more on how many calories you consume. If you match or consume fewer calories than what your body burns during the day and the exercise you do will help with this then your body will automaticaly lose weight.

At first it is difficult and the results will not be noticeable but believe me the effects become more and more evident as you progress.

Keep at it, don't give up even if you are not seeing results and you will get there.

thanks for your support! ^^ i think i will mainly stick with water, sometimes a nice full glass of really cold water with overload of ice is what i can really go for XD

with my situation i am a very picky eater^^ i absolutly hate greens but potatoes and carrots, etc i can definatly eat those...

so do you think with a side small bake potato or a side of some cold cut carrots would be pretty good with my "a lot lower" proportioned meals? before i always over eat and make myself sick to my stomach, so i think if i cut back on proportions by a significant amount i will feel full and not sick. i also plan to bake all (or most of, whatever needs cooking really) of my food at home.

your just stating out i would do every other day with the walking if your not used to it you may end up hurting your self if you do more than your body can handle. An you always want to stretch before you do any kind of exercising if not you might an most likely will get cramps. I just started walking again too an i do 30 min every other day till am used to it. another thing if you going to be reducing your calorie intake you will be vary hungry the first few days until your stomach shrinks, but you can do it. a high fiber diet will keep you from getting hungry so often, but take it slow when adding fiber to you diet or you could get gas, bloating and constipation. adults should take in about 25-35 grams of fiber a day. an be sure to drink lots an lots of water. all that fiber will need something to absorb, an coffee, pop, and regular tea doesn't count.

you will do wonderful an if you have a down day we are all here to help each other. good luck.:)

When I was just starting out I had to take it embarrassingly slow walking. To the point where I felt like I wasn't accomplishing anything. But don't let that discourage you. If you are like I was, my legs were badly out of shape and I used to really feel the strain in the thighs especially as I was getting used to it, you will probably have to skip a day and regenerate your muscles more frequently at first.

Make the initial goal to get your legs used to it and forget about weight loss for the first week or two.

It really is surprising as you go how quickly you adapt and how the ease of it just keeps going up and up, it's an addictive quality.

Some of the women at work are trying to lose weight as well and that seems to be the biggest thing that gets mentioned in not sticking with walking. Feeling like they are going too slow to make a difference and giving up, but it's worth it to take the time, nothing is trivial or worthless.

thank you so much on all of your replies :) i probably can handle a walk down the road for a few weeks to begin with. you guys are right about taking it slow though, because i dont wanna over work myself and just give up if i think its too hard. ill be sure to take a break when i feel like i need it but not too many or i might not get out there again XD

mainly what im concerned more about is just what i eat as i said:

twith my situation i am a very picky eater^^ i absolutly hate greens but potatoes and carrots, etc i can definatly eat those...

im not the type of person who counts calories or anything. i dont wanna jumble my mind with that and make myself frustrated, confused, pissed, etc. lol

anyways thank you all for all of your helpful tips :)

you are doing great on the path you are on. If there is any words of encouragement I can give you, just remember that you have more inner strength than anything your muscles have. You shown that by taking this first step.
