New Year, New Thread for Those who Weigh 200 lbs/90 Kg or More

Kevi, I LOVE brown rice! :)

Spartacus: I'm glad your still working out! I stopped working out for a week, and am trying to get back on track with that now.... and my calves are killing me after 15 minutes in the morning, and 13 in the evening on my elliptical!!

I came by to check on you all, see how everyones doing, and to report another 2lbs gone! :willy_nilly:

I love the brown rice, too. Unfortunately, my hubbie is a chef and prefers white. And he's a chef. I eat what he cooks. Mmmmm.... ;-)

Thanks for the encouragement!!! This is summer. I need structure in my day and I'm broke, so going to the gym provides both. Good job on the elliptical!! Do you have one at home? I could only hope... one day!!

Keep at it!!

Oh, and congrats on the weight loss!! I'm still a pound higher than my sig says. Whoops!

I agree with veronica, brown rice is nasty, but I have to stick with it for awhile haha. I'm seeing results or say difference in how much i weigh.

Spartacus: Thanks, and yes, I have an elliptical at home, I just bought it for less than $200 on Amazon. It's fine for what I need. It has a 300lb weight capacity, but was a bit time consuming and frustrating to assemble! LOL. How long has your Husband been a chef? I want to go to culinary school within the next few years.

Kevi, to each their own ;)

so I have a plan now. In order to maintain my weight it says I have to continue eating 2800 calories a day which grosses me out to no end to think thats what I'm eating a day. So what I need to do is cut down my calorie intake to 1500 and work out about 5 days a week and I'll be down to 145 by April 10th.

Personally I think this is totally do-able considering I plan on working out more than the minimal amount they say. And if I cut it back 300 more calories a day to 1200 I can be down to 145 by February 10th.

I really think I can do it this time. I will buy fruits/veggies, oatmeal for breakfast and healthy foods to make for meals instead of eating out and I can lose the weight in no time. (and I say all this as I'm eating a rootbeer float)

Whenever I run I cut off atleast 230 Calories and IDk when I workout and through out the week. But I seem to be gaining too much muscle weight and makes it hard for me to get off 200 lbs mark haha

Darn those muscles, Kevi!!

tamwalt--he's a fake chef. he studied under one and learned a lot, but hasn't been to culinary school. sorry for the mix-up! he was going to culinary school, but then decided it wouldn't be worth it because he'd never get to be home with me and the kids (who don't exist yet, but who am i to say he's wrong?). :) lol

cameraobscura, i'd say the 1500 calorie plan sounds more doable than the 1200 calorie plan, but that's just me (on the 1700 calorie plan) talking. i've eaten 1200 before, but it ended up taking more willpower than i had. Good luck!!

maybe we should do a challenge...the 80 pounds by may challenge or something...and listen to all the skinnies go crazy (no offense, skinnies). let me know if you think that's a good idea!

Why not try it guys? It's not a bad idea, but I wouldn't be able to lose 80 in 10 months haha that's too much hell for my stomach. Not eating rice for lunch is hell for me now.

By the way, how much is it to go to a culinary school? I want to learn more about cooking, I mean I can cook good, but I want to expand my knowledge about food. :)

Sry i've been a while guys! With school, work and trying to exercise, its hard to keep up withthe forum but im gonna try! I havent really been doing any crazy workouts lately. I have a walking fitness class everyday and we walk over a mile each day for about an hr. I think thats been basically keeping my weight level andI havent been eating like crazy, but I could be making better choices in certain places.

To Kevi, brown rice doesn't have the best taste, but try using chicken broth instead of water, it gives it more flavor. you can also try eating wild rice with the chicken broth. It's sooooo good! I've had it a couple of times and it is a great alternative to white rice. I know its healthier but im not sure how healthy.

Hey does anyone have any ideas on how to make my walks a little more vigorous, without having to run too much? Thanks!

P.S. Spartacus: The challenge is a good idea! I have a bday in late dec and its my 21st, so I wanna look better than I do now! I may not lose 80 lbs, but 40-50 lbs would be soo amazing! If u do it, count me in!

I suggest you walk your fastest at a constant rate for 30-40 minutes. :) But move on step by step, don't leap on minutes that quick cause it might hurt you.

To my cardio, I started at 15 minutes and I go up little by little every week till I reach the goal of 30 minutes. Also, I'll be idle this week :( I somehow hurt a ligament in my knee somwhere. It's nothing serious, i'm slowly recovering and be able to get my cardio back this friday :).

Another easy to make walking more cardiovascularly challenging is to incorporate more arm movement. It looks silly, though.
Or, you could walk at the pace you normally walk at for 2-3 minutes, then walk as fast as you can (within reason) for a minute and repeat.

I'm gonna have to think about what to do for the challenge...We all seem to have slightly different goals, but that could totally work!! Anybody besides me want to start the challenge thread? I tend to be flaky after a few weeks...

Spartacus, oh ok, lol! And that challenge sounds fun. :)

Kevi, where I plan on going, I was told by someone I work with that's going there that it's about $22,000.

Dang! That's alot of money, well I guess that will come in later when I become a nurse :)

Anyways, is it okay for me to go to the gym and just workout my upperbody? I won't run or anything to hurt my knee.

Wow Kevi,
Is you knee still bothering you? Have you gotten it checked lately?

I started my 1500 calories a day new healthy eating habits. Yesterday was a breeze and I even ate a cookie, but today I'm struggling a little. I only have like 200 calories left before I'm at 1500 and we're making home made burritos. Oh well, I guess its true you really do have to slowly cut out calories or your body is like "hey, what the hell!"

Oh you know I'm totally in on the challenge. 80 by April! I'm GOING to do it.

Camera, when you're making the transition drinking lots of water (I hate the taste, so I always mix-in tasty stuff) helps you be less hungry.

Also, eating food with lots of fiber and/or protein and calming down refined starches helps. :)

can i join the fun

Just found the forums and this is the club i fit into. Just a quick background. i have found my ideal weight to be between 200-205. I have found trying to maintain this weight is just as hard as losing all the weight. Well anyway, hope you dont mind me crashing the party.

Hope everyone is finding success with the losses.

Nice to meet everyone,

Matt

Yay! Another guy in the thread! Finally, my dream has come true haha, not a loner anymore :) Welcome Matt.

On the side note, it's not thesame knee, my left knee is doing so much better with my home rehabilitation haha (self-improvement maybe?) It's my right knee, it's not really inside the knee ligament I'm pretty sure. But, it's much better today, I did some vigorous work today. I moved the grass piles today which had like 3 piles and each pile has like 100+ Grass and I carry 6-7 St. Augustine grass in each trip which is like 40 lbs each per trip maybe? I did it for 2 straight hours! So my knee should be fine now, but I can feel a little pain on my right knee. Just to let you guys know I can play without my knee brace, but I'm not 100% ready to play without it :( It's just like a habit now that I've been wearing it and scared to play without it.

Good News! I checked the scale and now Im down a total of 8 lbs! I dream of what it would be like to lose another 10! I would be hot! haha jk Well this is usually the point where I peak and then plateau so hopefully I can stick with it and get under 230. Wish me luck!

Hey keep up with the 1500 calorie plan cameraobscura! Its always the easiest the first day, but after a while it gets harder, I know. Just try to have the will power and if you end up having to go over calories, try your best to keep it a small amount over. Its one thing to go over 200 calories, but 500 is just pushing it! haha

Oh ya and thanks for the advice with the walking guys, it really helped.

Oh how do I get my pic up on the forum like everyone else? thanks!
