HI Everyone,

I am new to WLF, and an just trying to lose the last 10 stubborn pounds. I am 31 years old, 124 lbs and 5' 3".

i have recently cut out dairy - due to lactose intolerance, and have recently started to eat meat again, after 14 years being vegetarian. i finally have energy to REALLY work out & am doing my own program, which is based on body for life concepts.

my downfall is late night dining, and a love of red wine- which i enjoy in moderation!

i look forward to being a part of this community.

Welcome. The last 10 lbs can be tricky, but certainly not impossible!

There's really nothing wrong with late night eating.... assuming your calories are in check. It's all about accounting for energy consumption.

good start to new healthy lifetyle- now i have a cold!

HI, i was doing so well, for 3 weeks i went 6x per week, following body for life, even started to feel & see some results. but on thursday, after only 3 days at the gym last week- i got slammed with a headcold which has now turned into a cough! i feel so sluggish and crappy. i worry about over exerting myself, since last winter i wound up with pneumonia!
what will this week of laying around getting better do to my body!? are my past 3 weeks of hard work thrown out the window!? i had a goal of being 8-10 lbs lighter by xmas.

i wish i wasnt sick!

Not a realistic goal. Eight pounds in 4 weeks might be reasonable if you weighed twice as much, but not starting from 124.

Your maintenance calories per , taking daily workouts into account, are only around 2,000 calories; you can't get a 1,000 calorie per day deficit out of that.

The week of lying around will help ensure that your body can heal itself, thus preventing your prior hard work from going to waste. ;)

Once you're recovered, a 400-calorie-per-day deficit should be totally doable, and that comes out to a pound every 9 days or so.

I"m no doctor but I'm pretty sure that laying around is more likely to produce pneumonia than being up and exerting. I know it's hard to exert when you feel poorly and taking time off is understandable...but laying around is more likely to allow your lungs to fill with fluid/mucous.

(At least that's what my mama the nurse always told me)

feeling better!

Thanks for all of your comments! especially regarding my attaining more realistic goals for my weight...does it make a difference if 5 or so of my 124 lbs are from recently gained weight?

Yesterday i started to feel better & i made it to the gym, did 15 mins on a stairmaster, got my heart rate up to 75-80%, got off thinking i would move onto a nice run, and I felt quite dizzy after i stopped. i did a set of squats with weights and a set of crunches, hit the sauna and headed home. I felt SO winded & naseaus (sp?)! it freaked me out. I took today off from working out but was very active at work (photographer- always moving!).

i hope i can be back to normal tomorrow! being sick and wanting so badly to be working out but not physically being able to is no fun!
