So Hey im new to this site and finally decided to join a site to see if it can help me lose weight. Many of you may think im a bit delusional because I'm 5'7 @130lbs and want to lose 15lbs. Its not maily the weight im concerned with but moreso the healthy lifestyle. Im a vegetarian and I tend to try to make up for my meatless meals by overeating{mostly binge eating} junk food through out the day. Its been really difficult cause I work with kids all day during the week and the sweets and snacks are always there. If someone could give me advice and tips or possibly join me as a partner on my weightloss journey it would be much appreciated!

Little changes go a long ways. Drink diet soda instead of regular, when you park at a store or other parking lot, park far away from the store, and walk in. Try to get as much walking as possible, take the stairs not the elevator, etc

hope that helps

not to be critical of your goals AT ALL.....

but according to BMI reports etc... i know that a HEALTHY weight for me is between 110-136.....

I am 5'2" though... at 5'7"..... you are looking to drop 15 lbs from 130?

Just be sure that is healthy for you to drop that much.... you dont want to fly away with the first good brisk wind that comes by your way!!!!

best of luck in whatever you decide to do though!

I'm a vegetarian too and it can be hard not to make up for not having meat by adding way to many junk carbs. The best thing for me has been to plan ahead and have things made up and ready for me to grab, healthy things. I like to always have brown rice premade ( I love it w/ saute'd kale or swiss chard). I don't know if you eat eggs or not, I like to have a batch boiled up and ready to grab or put on a salad. Pack a bag of ready to eat raw fruits and veggies for on the go snacks. Being prepared is the only thing that keeps me from grabbing all the bad stuff when I'm starving.

Do you exercise at all?

I'm asking because it's possible that you don't really need to lose weight, but that you need to reshape your body. It's possible to be a very slim *weight* and still not like the way your body looks because your muscles are flabby. It's called "skinny fat" by a lot of people.

I'm thinking that learning how to build some muscle and get some nice shape to your body would help you feel better about what you weigh.

I've noticed a few people in my life assume that if they are vegetarian they will become healthy and lean, but then they rarely eat vegetables and do not make substitutions for the protein they have cut out of their diet. These vegetarians eat complex carbs and little else, which is of course an imbalanced approach to nutrition, and leads to some chubby vegetarians ;)

I would suggest re-familiarizing yourself with appropriate portion sizes to at least help you eye-ball measure the food you are eating at work; and make a list of the vegetables, protein sources, and complex carbs that you like. You can plan your lunch and dinner for the week out of these options and make a grocery list for the week. Remember that for the average person 1/2 a cup of rice or pasta (a golf ball), 3 oz of protein (a deck of cards), and 1 cup of greens (a baseball) is a complete meal (Source: WebMD). These portions are conservative compared with what most of us consider "normal". Let me know if you need any help putting some meals together, and best of luck.

A golf ball is half a cup? No, it's a light bulb.

Bad carbs?

You have to be very careful of your carb intake if you plan to loose weight. Of course vegetables and fruits are carbs. But some are better than others. It's the glycemic index that makes the difference. If you eat a vegetable or fruit that is high in the glycemic index, it will immediately be converted to a form of sugar in the blood stream. To counter that, insulin will be released. Insulin sends the message to store fat. That's what you want to avoid. It's best to eat fruits and vegetables that are low in the glycemic index. Google it.
