New to forum, this is my diet and goal.

Im 17 year old guy, been fat for a long time, all through high school...and I live in the UK.
I have tried many diets before and just failed.

1. We cant afford to buy all the best fresh healthy foods, just have what my mom makes at home. Which is fair enough. It's not fair for mom to have to buy extra food, the whole family isnt on a diet its only me with the problem! Most nights it would be like a curry, pizza, spaghetti bolognaise, chilli.

2. I find if I eat something big, I will just go and eat more...and I cant help it.

So...to fill you guys in;

For the past 7 days I have been doing a bit of a silly diet, but my friend dropped from 19 stone to 12 stone doing it within a year or two.

Im just over 16 stone at the moment by the way, and in my first week I've lost about 5-7lb which is cool.

Heres what I do;
=======================================
Go to the gym 2-3 times a week. Do a little cardio, but mostly do alot of weights. I end up being there for atleast an hour per session.

Note: I walk back from the gym which is a 30-40min walk, and sometimes walk there too.

For breakfast I have a tuna sandwich, on white bread (2slices) with vegetables on top(premade bag of them).

During the day I have bugger all, I just drink water. ALOT of it. Over 2L a day.

Then at night (about 6-7pm) time I have a small bowl of cornflakes, no suger. (with milk)

I allow myself a cup of tea with 2-3 sweetners, might have 1-3 cups a day if I like.

The reason the sandwich is in the morning is because it keeps me going all day, but the cornflakes wont.
========================================

So thats what Im doing. Im aware its a 'yoyo' diet and when I start eating again Ill put it all back on. But being fat stops me from doing alot of things I want to do, like sports, swimming ect. It sounds silly that I wont do things cause I dont like my size but thats the way I am.

My point is, when I have lost the weight...I will be eating healthy and doing ALOT of excercise regularly, so I doubt im going to put any on.

My scales at home at the moment weigh me at 16stone 3 lb, but I dont know if I should weigh myself often because they say 'muscle weighs more than fat' and cause I do alot of weights at the gym it may be me putting muscle on.

I think my height is around 5'10

Any words ect will be appriciated. As im going it alone and dont have much support.

Thanks :)

I will keep the below updated;

START: 18th September 2007
START WEIGHT: 16stone 9 or 11lb
CURRENT WEIGHT: 16stone 3lb (weighed on 24th september)
TARGET: Below 13 stone

UPDATE

After speaking with a few members here and getting some good advice im following the Dr Chris Steele's PROVEN Fat Farewell Diet Plan.

Im going to see how it goes. I need to get some new scales and do some measurments. I think if I do that then measure myself every couple of months and IF I see a difference it will motivate me more.

Start date of this diet was 16th October 07.

Eat healthy NOW and Exercise regularly and the weight will come off... but your plan to get you to where you want to be - is not going to get you to your goal as fast as you want...

Change your habits now... eat enough calories and you will get the results you want

Thanks for the reply by the way,

Surely what im doing will be faster, will it not?
If I come off this diet now, I'd put on more weight probably.
But as I said, if I eat healthy, its still eating and it makes me want to eat more, and I WILL eat more.

=[

your words -
I have tried many diets before and just failed.

Faster doesn't mean better...

What makes you think this time will be different.. Diets are a problem -they do set you up to fail long term... Figure out what will work for you long term and change your habits... quick fixes aren't your best alternative...

I understand what your saying, thankyou. But still going to stick this for a few months, see what happens.

the last paragraph in a book I'm reading -and Im paraphrasing here...

You end up miles from home without transportation to get you the rest of the way... you could run home and get there faster, but when you got home you'd be hot, sweaty an uncomfortable... If you walked home, it might take you a bit longer, but when you get there, you will be comfortable and be able to function...

You're asking for support - it wouldn't be very supportive of anyone to encourage you to stay on the path you are on...

I'm with Mal!! And she's lost a lot of weight and is an inspiration on here so you should listen to her. Don't starve yourself. You won't feel good and feel quite faint and you won't be able to do the sports you are wanting because of being dizzy and faint. I speak with experience here. I did that once and I never felt good. So please don't do that to yourself. Eat healthy and you can't really over eat on veggies, join your sports and keep up the weights and the weight will drop off sooner than you think!!;)

Hmm, I do feel dizzy/faint sometimes but im sure it doesnt bother me, and it doesnt stop me at the gym either. If im ok with that is it ok to go on?

Im going to treat myself once a week to a takeaway, I think thats a good reward for keeping up the good work.

The dizziness and faintness get worse the loger you go on!! Just trying to help! That is what we are on here for!!

The problem I see with your plan is that you will not be getting enough calories and your body will go into starvation mode, where it will hold on to all the calories in your food and store it. It slows your metabolism down, so when you do start eating regularly again your body is in storage mode and not willing to lose anything. Any weight that you do lose will be quickly gained back when you return to regular eating habits.

It sounds like you have had some success at your current eating and exercising habits. But take into consideration that you will eventually come to a plateau and you will have to do something different when you come to that crossroad in order to continue losing weight. So, you obviously can't eat that diet everyday for the rest of your life so what will you eat when you come to the plateau? I recommend a nutrient filled and balanced diet. Don't always look at calories, nutrients are crucial for the functioning of your body. And not only will nutrients keep your organs working well, they will also help you to feel good and that will result in weight loss (by your exercising and eating properly). In my experience, when I don't have any energy and don't feel really good I don't really care what I eat or what I do. But, this is just my opinion and experience. Take it or leave it! :)

Caity where can I find a good/easy diet plan to follow?
Can I have alcohol still? Because I tend to drink atleast 5-10 pints a week, at least.

Thankyou.

Well, you know whatever you do needs to be something that you #1 Like and #2 Can do wherever you go. But something that is easy, fast, and filling is a protein shake. These are usually good for breakfast I think. There are a lot of good protein powders that are around 100 calories and you can either mix it with milk (skim or 1%), juice, water, etc. You can blend it into a smoothie with some ice and a banana if you have the time and ability. As far as meals go, I would focus on fresher and greener. I understand you mentioned that it might be difficult to buy these foods, so I suggest either eating smaller portions of the foods prepared or suggesting to your mom to buy whole wheat spaghetti instead of white noodle spaghetti and using lean beef instead of regular beef. Of course the optimal diet plan would be to eat fresh veggies and low fat meat with a serving of potatoes(complex carb)...but sometimes its just not that easy. I understand. I'll try to think up a simple diet plan that you might like or may find some help with. Remember, in whatever circumstance you are in always try to make the best choice there (think low in fat, not prepackaged, most color). Don't forget water!! Hope I helped a little. Ill get back with you in the next couple days...Bye!

p.s. And you should definentely cut down on the alcohol. There are a lot of calories in that bc its pure sugar. 1 beer, 2 oz. rum/vodka/whatever is a serving. I would say at the most 1 serving/day.
Remember i'm not an expert, but this is my experience and what i've learned in the personal training education i've had.

Thanks ALOT Caity, and would appriciate the plan :) Ive lost another 2lb lol =]
Its getting slow and boring though.

Oh, if your worried about budget. Try dried lentils and beans. They are cheap and really easy to make soup, burgers, salads, and stuff out of and fun to use! Making the food is half the fun!

Good luck with your goal to lose weight.

I can honestly say after numerous failed attempts to diet - it is very easy to put on not only the weight lost but extra weight too.

You do not want to make the same mistakes that others have made and find yourself with a bigger problem.

If you check my start weight you will see that I got to be a very big lady. I dont want you to get to that place.

I think that you may benefit from reading the following link and the diet and exercise advice that is given there.

Everyone here really wants you to succeed and enjoy life to its full.

Best wishes
Margaret
