Hello, I am from Kent,I am 38 have 3 children and a wonderful husband of 19 years (years married..not his age...he he)

I have been on the waiting list since Sept 1st 2010.....surgeon recommended Gastric Bypass as my BMI over 42....I have lost lots of weight on 2 occasions in the past....I have been going down the surgery route for 2 years now...I have seen doctors, dieticians etc.....it was not simply a case of going to my GP and asking for it(and so it shouldn't be)...and hey presto It's all done....I was told after my final surgeon meeting that i would hopefully be called for within 9 months ...only 5 months max of waiting left (hopefully)

Well...what can I say apart from sooo disappointed....it says I have had 57 views and not one person can say Hello....Why?....did I write in the wrong place ?
 
Hi, sorry that you got ignored and I have to admit that I clicked and then didn't comment but that was because you said that you wanted to hear from people in the same boat and as I know nothing about surgery I didn't think that I had anything to contribute.
Anyway welcome to the forums and I hope that your surgery goes well and that you find other people in the same boat that can help you. I'm more than willing to be supportive but don't know much about your method of losing weight.
Go and look in the diary section as there is a diary by a lovely man called Cabbie who has succesfully had surgery. He's not been around for a week or two but I'm sure will be back soon. Comment in his diary and I'm sure he will be of help to you.
Sorry that your experience here hasn't been positive so far but it is a great place to be once you start to meet people.:)

These forums are a little slow sometimes, on the other hand, because there's not a ton of people here, it's a pretty friendly place.
Give give it a day, if not,... bump it.
 
I read it, but didn't respond because I am totally against weight loss surgery of any kind, and I thought I'd rather stay quiet than rain on your parade.

I wish you the best of luck though.

San I very much respect your views and honesty...it was not a descision that came easily to me either..but I researched and reserached and am now very happy with my choice (2 years to get where i am)...I have on two occasions lost vast amounts of weight with will power and healthy eating and excerise...I ended up back to square 1... x

Hi there, Im new myself and so welcome and Hi, i have been on the waiting list myself since dec 2009 with a BMI of 42 just to be told a week before xmas 2010 that the minimum BMI for surgery has changed from 40 to 50 so after all this time i no longer fit the criterea!! I am in surrey and my hospital is St Georges in Tooting. I take it Kent doesnt have this awful moving of the goalposts!! Anyhoo its not all bad, ive booked my surgery in Latvia (less than half the price) for 20th Feb 11 les than 5 weeks away!! Yay.
I'd be interested to hear how you get on, isnt amazing how im only a few miles away and the rules are so different. Take care and look forward to sharing our loss story !! Roberta x x

I am in exactly the SAME boat..been on the waiting list since 12th Sept, 2010. I am due my op in March, 2010.. approx 6mths waiting list..But been persuing it for 1.5 yrs through the NHS - My OP to be done at Kings College Hosp. I am quite glad I have found someone in the same situation.

I am 23yrs old.. and have a BMI over 40.. I am planning to get married in 2013..so have so much to look forward to. =)

You are definately right 2011 is your year.. I felt this way when the clock striked midnight on new years eve.. The days are going by fast!

That's fantastic news!

I am so pleased for you.. I am waiting for my letter to come through the door any minute for my check-ups n surgery date. I am anxious and excited at the same time.

Please let me know what happens? and what to expect..
